"Believe me, I was trying to trade for him [with the Jets] when he had the hamstring. I was reading the [New York] papers, and I was like, 'Well, hell, we'll take him.'
Either he's a dope or he wants everyone to think he's a dope. He thought or wants us to think he believed the Giants were going to trade their #1 pick because of what he read in the papers or because he had a hammy?
The Jets had something like 12 draft picks that year and had pretty much no good WRs on their roster & I thought for sure they would look to trade up in the draft and get Beckham. They ended up drafting a few WRs but I don't think any of them made the team or are any good. Meanwhile they ended up taking a safety that year with the 1st pick passing up both Bridgewater and Carr also. After all, they had Gino Smith. Stupid front office; no wonder they were fired quickly
Nope. Rex's comment to Coughlin after Cruz's breakout playoff game (something to the affect of his "who's that #3? he's a helluva player") were the reason Cruz made out roster.

You're missing the joke that during that preseason game, one of the Jets announcer talked about how the Jets had cut Cruz prior to the Giants picking him up...hence, the notion that Rex cut him.
Yes. Jets and Rex were hot after OBJ in the draft. As well as Dallas. Not a big secret about both NY teams interest in OBJ leading up to the draft.
No they weren't. You didn't read the article.
Hmm....

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the Jets are looking to trade up and are targeting a move into the top 10. He also reported that they are "very hot" on former LSU WR Odell Beckham.

Perhaps, Raanan should research his own website.

Raanan is saying that Rex is claiming he tried to make a trade for OB AFTER we had drafted him, while he sat out the first few games with the hammy issue.
And... I have little doubt a guy they wanted so bad in the draft
wasn't still the same guy he wanted right after the draft. And he is right, there is a lot revisionist history from Raanan here. Many 'fans' considered OBJ to be in a wasted year when his injury occurred and many in the media and some Giants fans were moaning about not drafting Martin who was healthy.

No. Cruz was never a Jet.
Rex, probably wanted OBJ to be a shut down corner :-)
