He's making me look bad today now with a SB too as far as the whole "2 hole" comment. lol. Even if I don't think he should be at the top of the lineup Im still very happy we have him.
Not many SS can produce offensively much at all. He can.

If the mets weren't so bad offensively then I bet he wouldn't be hitting at the top of the lineup. I agree with you.
Nobody has said that he's done. It's a conversation on IF he's done and the variety of options we could go in. I mean, we're not talking about a sprained ankle here.
Not saying it would be easy to replace the numbers he's put up the past few years, that would be impossible, but just as an example Daniel Murphy has never come close to putting up power numbers like that and we all know he'd bring other strengths that Duda doesn't have.
Martin Prado would be the absolute perfect fit because he'd also be able to play some 3B if necessary, or if Duda is able to come back later in the year. Just gotta hope the fish go into a nose dive over the next month or 2. I'm sure there are other guys that would fit though.
So those that hunger for Murphy at 1B should have no problem moving Walker there. Personally, I think Murphy and Walker don't offer near the offense you need from 1B. If you want to go small ball though thats probably the best route. Move Walker to 1B and call up Herrera.
though among internal options Flores will probably get another shot before Herrera. Really just wish Wright would move over to 1st because that would help in a bunch of ways.
I have no idea why we haven't given someone else a shot at 3B with Flores out of action.
They can, I just don't think they will. They probably feel Campbell is doing an admirable job at 3B and 1B filling in defensively. Yuck. Id remove Reynolds and Campbell from the 40 man and swap them out with TJ Rivera and Kelly. Flores can replace Kelly when he's healthy.

It's really hard to say that Walker is better than Murphy...especially this season. As it was, it was essentially a wash. Maybe with the slightest tip to Walker because of his defense. This year Murphy is blowing Walker out of the water.

No argument about this year at all. Murphy's BABIP is through the roof though. He's got to come down from the clouds eventually right? When he does he's likely a 10-15 HR bat, maybe a .300 hitter this year. I was mainly speaking for their careers though and yeah... they are close... but Walker has been slightly better.
such a professional hitter that he'll still end up with great stats. He'd have to fall off a cliff to average out to be a .300 hitter for the year. He's having a year for the ages that he probably won't be able to replicate. That being said, I'd take Murphy the hitter over Walker the hitter 1000 times out of 1000. And it's not even close. Walker is the better fielder but Murphy doesn't seem to be hurting Washingtons league best fielding percentage of error rate.
they have been far better than I could have hoped for to this point. I knew Familia would be lights out, and Robles if he got over the 1st batter syndrome would be good. Henderson has been a pleasant surprise as has Reed.
I'll be more comfortable in September with everyone healthy and still pitching well.
I'm just never comfortable with BP's they seem so streaky and I'm poisoned by guys like Benitez and Heilmann who would have long stretches of greatness followed by high profile failures.

this group seems better than them, but we'll see.
Relievers are always up and down and I don't want to go too crazy yet but I think this might be one of our best pens in Mets history. It has the carbon copy piece for every position in the pen you'd want. What I mean by that is you typically want your 8th inning guy to have closing experience(Reed). You'd want your 7th inning guy if possible to have some closing experience as well (Henderson). You'd love to have a high strikeout guy from each side if you had your druthers (Bastardo and Robles). You'd want a dominant closer (Familia is likely the best closer we've ever had). You'd want an excellent LOOGY (Blevins) You would want a good long guy who can spot fill in the rotation (Verrett or Gilmartin really). Bastardo covers you if Blevins is unavailable as a second LOOGY as well. We still have upside guys like Smoker and Sewald doing VERY well in Vegas. What more do we want? Its awesome right now.

Well fuck me.
Who is plan B? Flores once his rehab assignment is over? Campbell?

de Aza? Read they had him working out at 1b.
Think Smith is too far away still.
That's why I said it in the offseason. Duda is one of the few players we could ill afford to lose. There are no backup plans that are decent. If he's out long term I move Walker to first and call up Herrera and hope Herrera injects a spark to the top of the lineup but it hurts the middle of the order. Another option might be something crazy like Conforto there and then maybe looking for a LF bat near the deadline again. In the meantime we could improve our defense by moving Cespedes over and rolling with lagares/deAza. Not ideal at all though. Smith is too far away, yes.
A huge outing from Harvey might launch him off on the right path for the rest of the year actually.
I hate to say it but I want one win out of the Nats series. Our bats are cold, we don't have our top 3 pitchers lined up, and now we might be losing Duda. Just don't get swept. We can overcome losing one game if we have to.
I admit I don't follow all of MLB like when I was younger, but other than Braun, Lucroy, Kirk N obviously and Gennett I couldn't name any of those Brewers.

The rest are mostly scrubs. Chris Carter can hit but is probably best suited for DH. Maybe he'd come here for cheap?
it might have made sense to have Reed close today and save Familia for the Nats.
but I guess you have to take your wins when you can.

Reed and Robles were unavailable today from huge workloads over the last few days.
Noah Syndergaard becomes the first pitcher in franchise history with double-digit strikeouts and zero walks in consecutive games. He now has four career starts with at least 10 strikeouts and zero walks in first 33 games, tying Matt Harvey for the modern MLB record.
40 man roster. Who would go? Why him over, say, Herrera?
Because Herrera isn't going to play first base. Kelly is our hottest hitter in AAA and can play a ton of positions. At this point he's likely a strengthened bench piece while Campbell starts (Yuck). We have a bunch of spots we can use as far as the 40. Remove Dario Alvarez... Walters... Maybe move TDA to the 60 day DL.

That was funny.....I always get a chuckle out of our ol' Poet Laureate Marty Bennett.

I'm gonna throw it out there and predict that Harvey has a big outing and a huge emotional lift. #shortmemory

Only pitchers since 1913 with consecutive games of 10+ Ks, 0 BB, 0 ER:
Nolan Ryan, '87
Jose Fernandez, '14
Kershaw, '15
Syndergaard, '16
Brandon Nimmo is 3 for 4 with two doubles and four runs knocked in today for Las Vegas, it's still just the 6th inning.
I suggest Monell

Is Monell on the 40?

Nevermind no. It ll have to be a guy like Seth Lugo or Jeff Walters
Because Herrera isn't going to play first base. Kelly is our hottest hitter in AAA and can play a ton of positions. At this point he's likely a strengthened bench piece while Campbell starts (Yuck). Hindsight hasn't exactly proven the Mets wrong on this one yet. Odd comment.
Because Herrera isn't going to play first base.
Ty Kelly has played 4 games at 1st in 7 years in the minors.
