Hes been knocked around and a little wild in his past couple of starts. Just hoping he can keep the team in it. And maybe, just once, this team can hit Gio.
Long story short, lot needs to go right for the Mets to win tonight in DC.
...made for some nice options last year in this case. Realistically, it looks like Campbell is going to play. I heard on the radio Neil Walker may play 1st and they'd call up Herrera. I think it's too early for Dominic Smith.
is that disc bulges or herniations are generally somewhat subjective in that a lot of people have slight bulges and would have no idea. For it to be obvious enough to have rest recommended by the train based upon upon the MRI images is not a positive development. Injuries of that nature dont just heal, you can manage it with PT and core strength exercises and hope pains subsides, you can receive epidurals (3 a year), or you can get a fusion. None of those are ideal options for a long and successful career.
RE: I wonder if the Mets might consider bringing in
Then I think they have to see if Conforto can handle first base and take advantage of their gold glove centerfielder playing regularly and moving Ces to LF which he is better suited for as well.
I think that is the most obvious first choice answer and then if Conforto can't handle it you look at a plan B.
Or maybe they could just try to move TdA over to 1B.
That's a possibility but I still think that if Conforto can handle it getting Ces to his natural LF and your gold glover out there everyday makes the most sense. If Conforto can't then you have to leave him alone, but I'd find out.
I have no idea if Conforto can play first but he seems like a natural ball player and first base is a position traditionally many playes can handle when having been shifted there.
Other than losing a few HR's Conforto would be a better hitter than Duda, and moving Des to LF and playing Lagares in CF massively improves the outfield defense and I like Lagares in the lineup. He has always had the knack for the clutch hit something this lineup is lacking right now.
I suggest TdA because I'm hopeful it might keep him off the DL or at least lower his chances of winding up back on it. We do have some options, though.. including calling up Herrera and sliding Walker over or even seeing if Wright could swing it since he's having some difficulty throwing across the diamond with this weird sidearm thing he's doing now.

arc - I thought about d'Arnaud at 1st as well. Are you talking long term or until the Mets find a permanent solution (Duda return or player acquisition)? They were discussing this on the radio. d'Arnaud has great numbers "for a catcher" but maybe not for a first baseman. I am not sure where I stand on that.

I guess it would depend how he took to it. If he was adequate in the field and hit the way he did last year, I think his offensive numbers would be perfectly fine. If you extrapolated his 2015 numbers over a full season, they'd be very solid for a 1B.. he'd only be a shade under 30 HR's.
Then again, you can't really do that with his numbers because he's always hurt.
I'm just trying to find a way to keep the guy in the lineup so we can eventually get his full potential as a hitter. It doesn't look like it's ever going to happen if he stays behind the plate.
to look like Kevin Plawecki simply isn't very good. He's been worse than Anthony Recker and hasn't hit now since 2014. His sinus issues were supposedly the "reason", now what? Hopefully TDA comes back and helps.
Smith is not an option no matter how many people on twitter want to scream for him. He's 38th in his own league in both wRC+ and wOBA. He's very young, 100% get that, but he'd likely be laughably awful as a big leaguer right now.
If so, I think that is the best current option for the 2016 team. Who knows what happens with YC after this year anyway so he could be right back in LF every day in 2017.
If you are bringing Herrera up to play 2nd, do you move Walker to 1st and leave Wright alone? Or do you move Walker to 3rd and DW to 1st?
Is TDA a viable option at 1b? Where does Flores factor in this?

You've skipped past laminectomy and discectomy to fusion. There's middle ground.

Conforto has never played 1b but he was a 3b previously. Would likely be sort of hard pulling it off in-season but anything is possible.
Shortly after David Wright departed the office of renowned spinal surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins, another teammate was stopping by for a visit: Lucas Duda. While Mets fans worried when Duda was seeing the same doctor that had diagnosed Wright with spinal stenosis, fans can breath a collective sigh of relief.
Duda is expected to be activated from the disabled list when first eligible on September 6 after being diagnosed with a small thoracic disc herniation in his back, according to general manger Sandy Alderson. In other words, he has a pulled back muscle. Alderson added that Duda's report was "favorable."
To relieve Duda's back pain, Watkins prescribed anti-inflammatories and exercises. No injection is necessary.
Duda has been on the shelf since August 22 after leaving a game in Colorado over the weekend with renewed back stiffness. He had been battling back issues before then, missing several games over the past few weeks. Link - ( New Window )

Looks like Lucas Duda indeed to the DL. Ty Kelly is on the #Mets' official lineup card. Stay tuned for more details on Duda.

I hope that was intended as a joke.

Possibly Matt Adams from St Louis or Chris Carter from the Brewers

I was just reading on TDA and was thinking that. Not sure if he's what you want there.

Ty Kelly, who was hitting .391 in Las Vegas, has arrived in D.C.
Good chance his "numbers" would improve if playing 1st regularly, not behind the plate.
Book on Kelly is he's a switch-hitter who can play infield and corner OF. Campbell with more speed.

Great point Sphinx - I was going to ask that if it would have an effect (position change).

But in 7 years in the minors he's only played in 4 games as a 1st baseman, something Soup can do fairly well.

Yeah, its now a no brainer for him to opt out unless the Mets can work out a new contract with him.

Duda has a stress fracture in his back and will be out "awhile."
"Probably a long period" until Duda is doing baseball activities again, TC said.
Conforto will get reps at first.

Wright isn't one of the guys considered at first.
Marc Carig @MarcCarig 48s48 seconds ago
So, Duda has same injury Wright had a few years back.
Would be intriguing to see Conforto at first. Would give the Mets a GG leftfielder (Cespedes) and a GG centerfielder (Lagares).

Conforto will likely get a look at first base. Duda out 4-6 weeks minimum.
Mets DFA'd Dario Alvarez to get Ty Kelly on the 40.
