I really hope reps at 1st base don't mess with Conforto's head.

"whatever the team needs." wright's response when TC floated a move to first l. But TC says Mets aren't ready to go that direction.

Dumb. Kelly can't possibly be any worse than Campbell; why wait until Flores returns?

Would be intriguing to see Conforto at first. Would give the Mets a GG leftfielder (Cespedes) and a GG centerfielder (Lagares).

Conforto will likely get a look at first base. Duda out 4-6 weeks minimum.

This is exactly what I was talking about earlier today. Of Conforto can handle first this move has the chance of actually improving the team.

Kelly has played 4 games at 1st in his 7 year minor league career

From what I read about back stress fraxturss

It seems 2-3 months is the typical time frame, so wouldn't expect him back until at least August 1

Love The Mets but

I don't see too much hope today. The Nats will smack Colon fast/slow pitches. And the Campbell/Plawecki combo are 6 or more sure outs.
Campbell can't hit period and Plawecki has yet to live up to the hype that was given about his hitting. Collins does not have any options as far as players. But, IMO he should drop Wright to 6 or 7 in the batting order.

If the Mets thought that I assume he would have already been on the 25 in place of Soup.

Im glad they aren't considering Wright at 1B
ZGiants98 : 5/23/2016 5:06 pm : link
The guy is barely putting up remotely respectable numbers at 3B. People are going to be happy with his 4HR production at 1B?? He would easily be the worst 1B in baseball.

As for Conforto, its interesting and we talked about this over the weekend. Kind of figured it would be a possibility. Conforto can legitimately replace Duda offensively at 1B. Ultimately, your still downgrading from Duda to Lagares/De Aza in the lineup though.

Id still rather do that than watch Campbell every day.

Signing Loney seems like a no-brainer and I say that as someone who has never been a fan.

2013+2014 112 OPS+hitting .294 with a .342 OBP. Again not a big fan of the skillset but we would do cartwheels if Wilmer or Campbell managed to post that over 313 games.
Also...

Dario Alvarez was a NO brainer. Edgin is pitching well in vegas and Dario has been getting bombed. How many back up LOOGY's do we need? Id guess Walters would be next.

The problem with this is its the best two year sample he's had since 2007. Are we getting that two year sample or are we getting the 2012 guy that hit at a wRC+ of 69 over almost a whole season? The guy thats in AAA that can't crack a ML roster currently?

Sure, bring him in for a look but I don't think he's improving the team all that much. I think we are going to have to make another big move at the deadline if Duda doesn't come back from this in time.

I'm looking at this as a few week look for the veterans minimum and nothing more. 2.6 fWAR in 2013, hitting well in AAA (PCL however). I'm looking at Loney as a hedge to another move down the line with a 10% chance he's 2013 Loney and he's "good enough" to accept over there.

I know he has an opt out. Question is has he opted out? I assume the Mets can't talk to him while he's under contract. Without him opting out would they have to trade to get him?

James Loney has an opt-out in his deal with the Padres that gives him a chance to pursue MLB deal elsewhere; SD has right of first refusal.

The main problem I have with that idea
ZGiants98 : 5/23/2016 7:25 pm : link
is that Plawecki isn't hitting yet either nor is Plawecki THAT much better at throwing out runners, ect. It would be one thing if we were "good" at catcher but we are not. We have a gaping hole there too.

The only way it hurts Duda
ZGiants98 : 5/23/2016 7:29 pm : link
is if the Mets flat out release him heading into next year. Basically the Mets were willing to guarantee him the years he was ALREADY getting in return for a team option year. This is what they did with Lagares. It was absolutely idiotic for Duda to take that. The guy has hit 30 HR and 27 HR back to back. Unless his career is over he is getting paid next year and will still get at LEAST a one year deal as a free agent matching what his option would have been here.

I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject but as I understand it Duda turned down an extension before the 2015 season (3 years, 30 mil?) ... he now has one more year of arbitration and the Mets could choose not to make an offer and he would be a free agent.

Corrections gladly accepted.

It was my understanding they were offering him something like 3 and 30 million in return for a team option year(Lagares) Keep in mind this was early 2015. He already had three arbitration years left likely making roughly 20+ millionish over that period anyway) Yes, you are correct the Mets can decline his arbitration next year and he would be a free agent but why on earth would the Mets do that?? There is zero chance of that happening unless his career is over. Its a stress fracture. It should heal in a couple months. Again, the guy hit 30 HR, 27 HR, and was now on a 28 HR pace. There is no universe where the Mets let that go when they have it on a team friendly one year deal. There was literally NO upside for Duda to take that deal.

throwing bullpen sessions and essentially "start" his spring training now. It will likely take until the end of May before we see him in minor league games but that will still give him most of June to build up his arm down there. I could actually see him beating his July 1st date by a hair.

over the top confidence regarding our options to replace Duda from Z and the person who seems to be the most down about this is Z! I guess that is how you know this is a fairly big loss.

Outside of moving conforto there and having the platoon in center, I am not sure what options we have where this is not going to be a pretty big hole the whole year. Also regarding Lucroy, I am not convinced that the brewers will be all that interested in dealing with the mets anytime soon.
