I've not been to North End a ton and the last time I did, I spent an hour waiting in line to buy a cannoli.
Anyway, heading to Boston for a couple days to attend a graduation on Thursday. Someone in our party wants to eat Italian in the North End. Any suggestions? One member suggested Fiore and another Antico Forno as a couple not outrageously expensive places? I've been to neither...any good. I can take other suggestions but nobody wants to stand in line at place like Giacomo's, so it has to be a place that takes reservations. TIA
I have a friend who lived on Prince Street for years and he was practically the mayor of the North End. We'd never wait.
If you do want pastries and Mikes and Modern both have crazy lines, Bova's is a decent alternative.
and you mentioned one of them:
I like Assaggio a lot. It’s on Prince Street. they have a shrimp and scallops fra diavlo that is almost as good as Limoncello's frutti di mare.
Antico Forno (I don't think it's expensive for the NE) is great, especially if you want to have pizza as an app. the pizza there is the closest thing to the pizza in Italy.
Massimino’s on Endicott Street is good too.
So many places in the North End, I'd stay away from the touristy places if possible, though hard to tell the difference, they're all so crowded.
Neptune's is a great spot, but be prepared to wait. I went there at 3PM on a weekday and there was a 2 hour wait.
Il Panino on Parmenter St is one of my favorites, their lobster ravioli is unbelievable. If you're into seafood, especially raw bar, then Mare on Hanover St is a great spot. Whichever you choose, make reservations beforehand. These places fill up quickly.
Mike's is where we waited for cannolis. Huge line but totally worth it.
Neither has as much of the tourist vibe but great authentic Italian
Fantastic. Try and get reservations.
Excellent veal parm. I love veal parm though.
they're east boston, not the North End - maybe you're thinking of Pizzeria Regina. Santarpios pizza is good though (comparatively speaking), Reginas you need to bring a sponge to get all the grease off and is a tourist trap.
But I've only stayed in Cambridge a couple of times.
