NFT: Bostoninas: favorite North End restaurants?

Bill L : 5/23/2016 9:40 am
I've not been to North End a ton and the last time I did, I spent an hour waiting in line to buy a cannoli.

Anyway, heading to Boston for a couple days to attend a graduation on Thursday. Someone in our party wants to eat Italian in the North End. Any suggestions? One member suggested Fiore and another Antico Forno as a couple not outrageously expensive places? I've been to neither...any good. I can take other suggestions but nobody wants to stand in line at place like Giacomo's, so it has to be a place that takes reservations. TIA
Sorry, should have titled it Bostonians

Limoncello's
pjcas18 : 5/23/2016 9:46 am : link
the linguine frutti di mare extra spicy is one of my favorite meals.

I have a friend who lived on Prince Street for years and he was practically the mayor of the North End. We'd never wait.

If you do want pastries and Mikes and Modern both have crazy lines, Bova's is a decent alternative.

lived there for a couple years

not the North end but Rino's in East Boston blew away all the north end restaurants I tried. A little difficult to get a seat at dinner time though, but if your up there for four days I'd recommend trying to get lunch there at some point, and it was much less expensive than I was imagining. In the North End I was a big fan of the Daily Catch, but again hard to get a seat. Reservations don't seem to mean much even at the restaurants that take them, had reservations at Dolce Vita and ended up standing outside for an hour and a half anyway. Great food though.
Not Italian...

but Neptune's Oyster in the North End has a hot lobster roll that is magical.
Some other suggestions

after I asked my wife to remind me where we eat....

and you mentioned one of them:

I like Assaggio a lot.  It’s on Prince Street.  they have a shrimp and scallops fra diavlo that is almost as good as Limoncello's frutti di mare.

Antico Forno (I don't think it's expensive for the NE) is great, especially if you want to have pizza as an app.   the pizza there is the closest thing to the pizza in Italy.

Massimino’s on Endicott Street is good too.

So many places in the North End, I'd stay away from the touristy places if possible, though hard to tell the difference, they're all so crowded.
Wherever Anthony Martinietti goes to eat...

Except, of course, on Wednesdays.
My favorties are The Daily Catch, Francesca's, and L'Osteria

Neptune's is a great spot, but be prepared to wait. I went there at 3PM on a weekday and there was a 2 hour wait.

Il Panino on Parmenter St is one of my favorites, their lobster ravioli is unbelievable. If you're into seafood, especially raw bar, then Mare on Hanover St is a great spot. Whichever you choose, make reservations beforehand. These places fill up quickly.
Antico Forno

Is our favorite and our go to place when friends visit us in Cambridge. I don't think its expensive for good Italian. Check the menu on line
I suggest using open table

For reservations
Thanks. This is good stuff.
Bill L : 5/23/2016 12:20 pm : link
I definitely will be using Open Table. I was worried we'd have to compete with a lot of graduation families so a place that takes reservations is a must.

Mike's is where we waited for cannolis. Huge line but totally worth it.

Two places in the North End we like are (1) Panza and (2) La Famiglia Giorgio. Also, if you want Mike's pastries but are going to be in Cambridge, there's now a Mike's in Harvard Square, right by the T stop.
Lived down there for a couple of years and a

big fan of Monica's on Prince/Salem and Prezza on Fleet off of Hanover.

Neither has as much of the tourist vibe but great authentic Italian
Has anyone been to Fiore?
Bill L : 5/23/2016 2:47 pm : link
is it ok?
I'd second..
FatMan in Charlotte : 5/23/2016 2:50 pm : link
Limoncello's, but wherever you pick, make reservations. And while is might sound good, the House of Spagnuolo is NOT a place you'd want to eat. Trust me.

Fantastic. Try and get reservations.

Excellent veal parm. I love veal parm though.
I'm very happy

they're east boston, not the North End - maybe you're thinking of Pizzeria Regina. Santarpios pizza is good though (comparatively speaking), Reginas you need to bring a sponge to get all the grease off and is a tourist trap.
It's a tourist trap and busy

But Giacomo's is great.
Yeah, Giacomo's doesn't take reservations

Also, I'm piggy-backing on the thread with a different question, but I'm also open to breakfast suggestions in Cambridge. Anyone have any good ones?
I like..
FatMan in Charlotte : 5/24/2016 8:24 am : link
Clover and The Friendly Toast for breakfast spots.

But I've only stayed in Cambridge a couple of times.
The Friendly Toast

awesome name!
I worked in Kendall Square
pjcas18 : 5/24/2016 9:00 am : link
for three years and the only place I ever ate breakfast was the Friendly Toast. And not often, but it was good, but crowded.

Tattes Cafe

3rd Street Kendall Square is good. Sunday brunch at Abigails is good. They have a pulled pork hash with eggs that's excellent. It's in our building so it's very convenient for us
I think that we're staying at the Cambridge Mariott, so
Bill L : 5/24/2016 9:25 am : link
the Friendly Toast and Kendall Square look to be ideal.
In that case
AP in Halfmoon : 5/24/2016 9:42 am : link
There's a breakfast buffet at Champions in the hotel
Have the burger at Cragie on main
hassan : 5/24/2016 1:05 pm : link
It's great.....and get there early they only make 20 a day
