I am beyond excited to be joining the ESPN family and quite honestly, happier than a Kardashian in an NBA locker room. #Blessed

Why do I have a bad feeling about all of this.
nevermind...seems harmless

Apple writes a blog called "Survivin America: Making it through with humor and hope." After the draft, she wrote a first-person column for Sports Illustrated about the experience, and soon thereafter she visited ESPN's Bristol, Connecticut, campus to appear on "His & Hers," NFL Live and several other studio shows.

"Annie caught our attention during the NFL Draft, and when we met her in-person at ESPN, we were blown away by her relatability, her sense of humor and just how unafraid she is to speak her mind," said Seth Markman, senior coordinating producer for ESPN's NFL studio shows. "Annie brings a very unique perspective as the mother of a current NFL player and as a fan, and we look forward to exploring a variety of different story ideas with her on Sunday NFL Countdown."
But she is off to a good start

"She's not going to change," Eli Apple said Monday, after the Giants' first practice during organized team activities. "She was like this way back when I was in high school. She's not going to do anything different."

Well, she is getting a new job. Starting this fall, Annie Apple will join ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown as a contributor. Annie Apple will offer player profiles and other stories for ESPN's Sunday morning pregame show.

Eli Apples mom got old the first time i read anything she had to say, and then even worse when they had her on NFL Network the next night being interviewed by Lindsay Rhodes. The one thing is what she has to say/offer is just as irrelevant as what Skip Bayless or Curtis Conway (useless garbage) has to say.

The thing that concerns me though is the people who find Apples mom funny" or even close to interesting. Just a weird way to get attention I guess, be the loud mouthed mom of a first round NFL draft pick.

The perspective of a mother of a player in the NFL. Thought that was obvious. I dont expect some crazy insane football insight, but I think hearing her opinion on things like safety would be interesting. Id love for her to answer a question like "If you had to di it over again, knowing he would make the NFL, would you let your son play?"

I dont follow her on twitter and dont care about her jokes. Again, On College websites hearing the perspective of parents on the team was interesting to me. Doesn't have to be for you.

And the thing is I believe she has been tweeting since Eli was about 13 years old and apparently enjoys it and it pretty good at it and has a decent following in her own right.

This notion that she is doing this because her son was drafted is silly. Do people expect her to cease what she was doing because her son now has notoriety? Would they ask that of their own mom?

As far as ESPN, I think they recognized that the women is a natural and view her a a likable personality worthy of taking a chance on. She may just be a talented lady who will excel in front of the camera.

Yeah or whatever she was talking about low rent Odells stupid Tweets she was making. Who gives a shit? Like I said, the night she was on the NFL Network being interviewed and like I said I dont give a fuck what she has to say. I immediately changed the channel and turned on the hockey or whatever else.

Im not the only one, every single article about her (an article about a players mom, lol) has people bitching about the coverage of her. I honestly wouldnt be surprised if there was a Real Moms of the NFL, I did say though what she has to say will have the same impact on me as what Skip Bayless has to say, nothing. It doesnt mean I have to like her or find her not annoying. Good for her.

LOL, oh no. I didnt mean to sully the name of Annie Apple by comparing her to LPG because of the loan shark shit, even though LPG was being bashed years long before the minute the loan shark shit surfaced on here. Like I said, her and Miko Grimes can be on a show on Oxygen sometime together.

BigBlue in Keys : 5/24/2016 1:08 am : link
I could see it being strange having a rookie in the room where anything that happens can be gossip on ESPN. I feel like the first time a coach or player has to answer a question about what another players mom is saying it is already too big a distraction.

I can see her being good for the league and tv though and wish her success. I just hope she focuses on other teams and lets her son take care of his own business.

Agreed. And it was obvious from the start.

It's all fun and games till the [pre]season starts.

This woman will drive herself (and her son) crazy by being active on social media in this town.

Shit, I can even see a snarky beat writer writing an article telling her to shut up in a backhanded/roundabout way. This isn't really the city in which you should invite scrutiny onto your son, when he was considered a reach at drafttime (whether rightly or wrongly is irrelevant).

this dude's mom needs to put her twitter on private for her own sons sanity
Her tweets have consisted of NBA, Prince tributes, and maybe one pic

Didnt say Mrs Apple was exactly like Grimes. My point was Brent Grimes is a player well known for his wife being Twitter happy. What I am saying (jokingly)Daveis people, would, in contemporary America with consideration to television watching, be interested in following a show based around the Moms of the NFL. I meant it jokingly but with what is on TV these days, who the fuck knows? It might get high ratings.

There is reason there was a spike in Mrs. Apple Twitter followers after she said what she said. People obviously care about this kind of stuff for some reason. Also, I dont see why its so surprising that people are becoming irritated Mrs Apple is becoming a mini-extravaganza. All of the articles I've seen posted by Facebook pages feel the same way, "stop trying to make her become a thing" ...I believe we're the words

Some of you are looking at the wrong way. 51% of the population is female. ESPN is looking to gain viewership. The untapped portion of the population is female in the NFL. A couple percentage points gains advertising revenue from female products.

Also, why the "hate?" Yeah so he's a momma's boy. So Annie is outgoing. If she turns out to be a Miko Grimes that is one thing. I doubt that is even a remote possibility. With all the dysfunctional families in the world, people are pissing and moaning about a stable and loving one.

You might be right but in truth, that would be coincidence. Everything has been different, right? College, her son has always been a star, never struggled, relatively (compared to NYC) low-key and podunk place, few distractions, fewer challenges, logarithmically less media scrutiny and strong commentary...

She can do what she wants and I'm not criticizing her (nor am I as starry-eyed as you), but if I were to offer her advice, I would say that she should keep on building up her own brand and have it in writing that her commenting or responding to comments about her son and the Giants would be completely off-limits. That would insulate both she and Eli. Plenty of other fluff to talk about on ESPN.
.
arcarsenal : 5/24/2016 8:12 am : link
I certainly don't resent her or think she's a bad person nor do I think she has bad intentions. I just don't see this going well when games start being played because I can't see her being able to refrain from commenting on criticism of Eli or firing back.

He's going to inevitably have some growing pains and rookie struggles and articles will be written about how perhaps he was a bad pick, etc. Pretty hard for me to see Mrs. Apple not getting into Twitter wars with the people who write them.

It's just one of those things.. you can kind of see where it's going long before it gets there.
Obviously, she is a personality
Bill L : 5/24/2016 8:13 am : link
and now an ESPN employee *because* of her son, but if you think about it, if she was a personality first (e.g.; if she was Len Berman) and her son got drafted as a football player, then nobody would be giving her being an on-air type a second thought.
Is it me
giantsfan227B : 5/24/2016 8:14 am : link
or did this woman all of a sudden jump on the fact her son was drafted and try to ride the gravy train. I have heard way too much from her and barely anything from her son. It is one thing when Campbell's soup says to a player we have an idea, get your mom to do a commercial with you. It is another to be self-promoting. And if this kid doesn't play well is ESPN going to keep her? I say no.

Some people like tacos, and some people don't. Can you actually believe that there are multiple sides to an opinion on a topic? It's shocking, I realize that. But when you go back into your dim candle lit room and slip on your half glasses to read Crime and Punishment while you bemoan modern everything you will still hate the internets and Eli Apple's mom but maybe ponder that others may not?

Thanks for posting that.

Some people here think Joey's lost his fastball. I don't.

They often say, "How does that asshole continue to post here after his imbecilic rantings and ravings on draft nights?" They snicker and giggle when you angrily shake your fist in the air and proclaim yourself to be at the zenith of football knowledge. I don't.

Certainly, "big-name" talent evaluators like Ron Wolf and Gil Brandt have never thought to consider "calf-fatness" when projecting a prospect's success at the next level. If they have, I haven't read it. I doubt they've ever worked as hard as you have in breaking down game film, assessing a given prospect's strengths and weaknesses and then providing said detailed analysis so consisely as you did here Eli Apple

Fuck me. Awful pick

I doubt Ozzie Newsome or Bill Polian ever had as firm a grasp on draft value and schemes as you'be done here:

He's not physical enough to play safety. So we have no #2 WR, no RT, no RG, zero LBs who can play and no FS but by all means take a slot corner because DRC makes someone sad. Fucking awful

Y'know, if there's one person on this board that can type a thousand words to make a point like "different strokes for different folks", you're the man for the job. Equally as impressive, was your ability to deadpan while offering the following:

but what do they know?
I'm sorry, no one else may opine, I keep forgetting the rules of the cowards and the morons that no one may speak ill of anything Giants. Idiot.

There's no way cowards and morons like Bill Walsh, George Halas or Art Rooney Jr. ever stood on their principles, no matter the thickness, as you have. Those dickwads probably always caved to concensus. No supreme they've been total abject failures and you are who you are.

If you gain some nugget of perspective from Annie Apple's tweets, more power to you. If you're entertained by her sass, I'm overjoyed. From the tweets I've seen attributed to her that have been posted here, I see a "personality" who's griped about loose women contacting football players, the NFL's spread of donuts at the draft, and some glib remark about the Kardasians. I found neither to be informative, unique or amusing. Shoot me.
Lighten up Francis
