NFT: Mets and Nats Game 2 Mets chat 5/24

ZGiants98 : 5/24/2016 9:21 am
LET'S TAKE FIRST PLACE!!

Can Harvey finally rebound?

"I'm not a quitter,” Harvey exclusively told ESPN on Monday. “I'm not going to just quit and put the ball down. It's a fight.”

Lucas Duda to the DL. Ty Kelly to the Mets

Travis d'Arnaud (rotator cuff) has started to throw at home in California with no apparent difficulty. He is due to report to the Mets’ complex in Florida midweek. Meanwhile, Zack Wheeler is back throwing off a mound after April surgery to remove an undissolved stitch from his original Tommy John surgery. He remains on track for a return to the majors near July 1. Read more at MLB.com.

Thor is player of the week

for Carson Smith, blow to the Red Sox

A lot of Mets fans wanted to trade for him.

right now the Red Sox really don't need a bullpen, they're scoring runs at a historic pace.

Jackie Bradley Jr turned into Babe Ruth and Xander Bogeaerts, Ortiz, Betts, etc. are a f-ing murderers row.

I hope it crashes down on them soon. hate when the Red Sox are successful, this town becomes unbearable.

I read with the Strasburg extension as of now Rich Hill could be the top FA pitcher on the FA market after the season.

I mean, even if Rich Hill is pitching well, that's a barren FA crop when Rich Hill is the headline name. Edinson Volqez, Bartolo, etc. weak crop.

FA market is truly awful. If you really think about it, Rich Hill might end up a real bargain because of his advanced age.

I have to keep checking if it's the same Rich Hill from 10 years ago because it seems so unlikely.. but it's him. Pretty crazy.

To be fair, the thought was he wouldn't age well "later" not "now" and it didn't come from me.
And I hate to rain on the Cespedes parade

But his UZR is bad in CF. Its likely going to look pretty ugly by the time the year is out. You take that trade every day of the week but he's still not an ideal CF.

Lol, I wasn't pointing fingers. Just reflecting on the conversations and how well he is playing now. Even I didn't see Cespedes being this good. Hope he keeps it up!!! Lord knows we need him to with the rest of the zeros we have in the lineup.

No of course not. Just saying some of the concerns in the offseason had to do with his ability to play CF. If Ces stays here long term Im betting he shifts into a corner in a year or two anyway. Its all good.

Didn't expect him to match last season. But this year. Or even next wasn't the issue. And he's still not a CF.
the lack of an attempt to fake a jog to first after a dropped third strike not too long ago. That's the Ces people worry about.

Ces to play CF long term. Lagares is already signed long term and is great at CF. Granderson's last year is next year and he's already starting to look like a part time player. The CF thing isn't a reason to not extent Cespedes.
Granderson
sphinx : 5/24/2016 12:54 pm : link
I'm thinking Grandy may leave after this year ala Cuddyer if his bat doesn't pick up. He's made 75 mil thru the end of this year and will be 36 before next season starts.

Cespedes had a hot month to end the season last year and sucked in the postseason. Id imagine a FULL YEAR of MVP type play (what some people here seem to be suggesting) would absolutely change how is market looked at the end of the season. We are talking wRC+ in the 180s and 50+ HR. And no I still dont share that notion yet. He's going to go cold eventually IMO but anythings possible I guess.

the good news about harvey

is that if he is going even decently good, the 7 army are the fans that will encourage not boo him. Which may be what he needs mentally. Physically it would be nice to pop a 97mph heater once in a while.

yeah, maybe once or twice or twenty times, lol.

All kidding aside, I'd rather try someone else in the minors that is actually hitting the ball...but I know the 40 man rules really limit them. Just tired of trotting out the same ineffective player. He stinks. That being said, maybe he proves me wrong tonight.

They don't even have an option in AAA outside of TJ Rivera, he of the very limited 1b experience himself. The starting AAA 1b, Marc Krauss is absolutely awful and AA is Dom Smith

Shortsighted thinking on the Mets part...
Flores could be back in the majors Friday
pjcas18 : 5/24/2016 4:03 pm : link
and he should spell Duda. Not that he was much better than Campbell but I think Flores just needs regular playing time.

in either case, Flores looked good defensively at 1B and I'd rather see him in the lineup than Campbell as the everyday 1B until Duda returns or they get a legit 1B.

IMO
sphinx : 5/24/2016 4:12 pm : link
Flores [...] as the everyday 1B until Duda returns is a scary thought.

Because of? He looked great defensively in his limited opportunities and had a track record of hitting well his whole career in the minors (when he was getting regular at-bats) something he did once in the majors - last year and he did pretty well all things considered.

In their defense I don't think they expected both Flores to start the year absolutely horribly + a Duda major injury. One of these things? Sure. But both... kind of hard to predict. That said they 100% should have looked at someone better than Marc Krauss given the fact we knew Smith wasn't likely going to be able to help the 2016 Mets.

This. I want either Flores or Wright as the regular 1st and 3rd basemen.

They shouldve resigned juan Uribe or Kelly Johnson
