Great was how simplistic its plot was. Boogie man is in town no one is safe and he can not be killed. The Movies pace is so tight that it's like a good book. No bullshit sub plots, or romance, just a boogie man and those who become his victims. Even some humor to break the tension. A masterpiece.
He will never top it. The studio will want gore and stupid background.
I remember reading that there was a test screening of the original, before they put the music in. The audiences hated it. They thought it was boring, and it sucked. That's because of how simple and low-budget the movie is (Halloween in 1978 had a $325,000 budget, 33 times less than the $11 million budget for 1977's Star Wars).
Think about the plot. Kid kills his sister using special effects that someone on their smartphone could recreate. Mike escaped, again with little to no special effects. Loomis warns everyone, some people die, and then the Shape stalks Laurie.
But that music. It created so much tension. I like to play the music on Halloween late afternoon and into night, and it's just chilling.
So when John Carpenter says he's going to make the scariest Halloween of all, I laugh, because we all know that the approach is going to be completely different.
I've always said that a score could have a huge impact Â

Anal Blonde 10 was fucking awesome.
Oh man, c'mon Vin! You left that part out!

Big difference between that and directing.

The Rob Zombie version...I was out after 5 minutes.
"Awesome director" sure doesn't mean what it used to...
