10 most talented teams - Whaaaaaaaat?

ZogZerg : 5/24/2016 12:29 pm
An article on NFL.com by Bucky Brooks.

I was SHOCKED to see the Giants on this list:

9) New York Giants

Quote:

Despite all of the criticism general manager Jerry Reese has received for failing to add a host of premier players in recent drafts, the Giants sufficiently filled the voids on their roster through aggressive free-agent additions. The acquisitions of Harrison, Vernon and Jenkins immediately upgrade the playmaking potential of the defense........

He has Seattle as #1.

Seahawks, Steelers, Panthers headline 10 most talented teams - ( New Window )
Looks based on 2016 FA signings
njm : 5/24/2016 12:32 pm : link
About half the "blue chips" were signed this year.
If you are shocked...why?
djstat : 5/24/2016 12:34 pm : link
Keep in mind this is how a team looks on paper BEFORE ota's, training camp etc

1. Franchise QB who has 2 SB Rings
2. Top 3 WR is the game
3. Play making Running Back
4. OL with the best center in the game, a blossoming LT and a versatile T/G in Pugh
5. Hankins, Harris, JPP, Vernon
6. DRC, Apple, Jenkins

There is a ton of great talent. Too many here focus on being miserable or the fact that there is not an all pro at every position

100% agree. i guess it is because of 3 straight losing seasons. But this is the time to be excited. People act like we are already 0-5
being miserable is easy
UConn4523 : 5/24/2016 12:49 pm : link
we were never going to fill every hole and people just need to deal with it and move on. There's a ton to be excited for with this team from the coaching staff down to the fringe players in training camp battles.
Some good points....

Yes.....
2. Top 3 WR is the game
Closer to 1 than 3...
3. Play making Running Back
I kind of missed that one....who is it?
4. OL with the best center in the game, a blossoming LT and a versatile T/G in Pugh
What about the other two guys and TE?
5. Hankins, Harris, JPP, Vernon
But no depth behind them....
6. DRC, Apple, Jenkins
Has Apple played a down, yet?

You are talented after you have a season under your belt with a team....there have been many players, who supposedly were so talented, that just having them on your team, makes you an instant winner....you know, talented players like, A-Rod....

Who really gives a crap how teams are rated? It's only all about the W's....I think we will have a few more this year....

Even if being miserable is easy, what does that have to do with whether the Giants will be good next season?
I'm actually starting to get very excited about this team.
Mike in Long Beach : 5/24/2016 12:57 pm : link
I think we're better than Washington and Philly, and Dallas is completely inept without Romo, who never plays through a full season anymore.

I think this is a playoff team.
they also have talent at the "sexy" positions
giants#1 : 5/24/2016 12:58 pm : link
QB (Eli), WR (Beckham + Cruz? and Shephard - lots of hype as an immediate contributor), pass rusher (JPP/Vernon), CB (Jenkins/DRC/Apple).

Many Giants fans tend to focus on the holes/questions (FS, ROL, LBs).

Also probably projecting some of the young players to take a step forward (Richburg, Pugh, Flowers, Collins, etc).

lol...you're an ape.
In measuring the present value of a future asset or liability...
manh george : 5/24/2016 1:00 pm : link
one has to apply a discount rate. In the case of the Giants, the discount rate that needs to be applied, unfortunately, is the present value of future injuries.

Figure at least 20%.
As far as current talent is concerned...
manh george : 5/24/2016 1:02 pm : link
I suspect that a number of people weigh heavily the fact that little has been done to shore up the RT. I still expect that they will add at least 2 more OL, including an OT, as cuts of experienced players are made.

Because its simple to point out all the things you think are wrong and hard to actually be enthusiastic. Not sure what to tell you, your MO is to point to every negative, harp on it, and when it happens get to say "i told you so". If that's what you want to do, fine. I think its a waste of time. Anyone can question anything, usually its unproductive.
Negativism was easy...
manh george : 5/24/2016 1:17 pm : link
during three straight years of way above average injuries, especially when concentrated at a handful of key positions.

My "battle plan" is to hope that injuries fall all the way down to league average.
Think even the biggest of homers would pause at that one

Giants have a lot of friends, that's all you can say

chris, i know it's all an act, but the motivation behind the act really makes you a shit person.

Yeah well, the Giants are winning the Super Bowl
LI NHB : 5/24/2016 4:07 pm : link
so it would make sense for us to be up there.
Anyone notice that the Patriots weren't on this list?
Bramton1 : 5/24/2016 4:31 pm : link
They were a few plays away from the Super Bowl, then have had a solid offseason, but they don't make the Top 10. Not a Patriots' fan, but come on!

your name says it all but i will counter.
1. not many teams have the starting DLine we do, depth isnt something EVERY team has, but we do have bromley and Wynn who have been serviacable, add to that a possible UDFA and OO and you dont have horrible depth.

2. we arent bad AT ALL at TE. tye was very good as a rookie last year and donnell made some plays no reason to think those two cannot improve plus adams who seems to be a promising rookie

3. the Right side of OL isnt as bad as everyone makes it, it was serviacble but again SHOW ME A TEAM WITH ZERO holes. it doesnt happen, the oline isnt as bad as people make it out to be

4. Jennings despite he flaws had MORE YARDS than ANY RB in the last month of the season, if given a consistent dose of carries he is serviacble as well along with vareen and perkins(who i think will have a good year) its not a bad RB group AT ALL.

For those who say well we are counting on rookies, look at 2007!!!
BRADSHAW WAS A SEVENTH ROUNDER
Boss had an impact including a catch in the super bowl
do i even have to mention the other guys? they clearly had impacts as well as most should know...

Quite a turnaround from last August
The_Boss : 5/24/2016 7:36 pm : link
I remember he did a list during training camp and (like PFF, who did a similar article), he had the NYG in the 20's. I'm no Reese backer by any means, as I think he's played a major part in what's happened in the last 4 years, but he has had quite an offseason. I'm still concerned over the right side of the OL, but to have gone (perception of course) from the bottom tier to the top in less than one year, is quite an accomplishment.

Ranked 7th on the list don't see how at least three of those teams are nearly as talented as they are. 16-1 odds to win the Bowl too.
Talent
stretch234 : 5/24/2016 8:34 pm : link
Reality is they have a 2 time SB MVP QB. They have OBJ. They have 3 young good OL. They have pass catching ability at RB and TE

They now have bookend pass rushers. They have a dual threat DT and 1 of the best run stuffing DT. They have a pro bowl CB and a competent 2nd. They have a really good up and coming player in Collins who will play his natural position

The NFL in its current salary cap, roster limit state has every team that is flawed. It is how you can mask flaws that make you successful

Every team has flaws
