NFT: Matz attack! Mets at Nats Day game!

ZGiants98 : 5/25/2016 8:34 am
Lets take this series!

Matz will bid to win his seventh straight start when the New York Mets and Washington Nationals meet in Wednesday’s 1:05 p.m. ET rubber game at Nationals Park.

f Matz goes to 7-0 in a seven-start stretch with a win Wednesday, he would be the first Mets pitcher to do so since Steve Trachsel in 2006.

Looks like Mets might make a move regarding Harvey

Columnist Joel Sherman in the Post describes the Mets signing James Loney to cover first base during Lucas Duda’s absence as a no-brainer.

Flores went 2-for-3 and logged seven innings at first base as his rehab assignment began with Double-A Binghamton. Flores is eligible to be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

he flat out sucks right now. Gives his team no chance to win AND blowout the pen every 5 days.

He needs to go on the DL with a phantom injury or get sent down to the minors to work his shit out...
Agreed.

Let him clear his head. Let him start from scratch. Work on his mechanics and build up his arm again slowly in St. Lucie.

"Happy Harvey Day!" feels like it was just yesterday. Oh, how things change...
Harvey has lost his ooh, aah
sphinx : 5/25/2016 10:17 am : link
Every elite pitcher, including past Harvey, elicits oohs and aahs a number of times during a game when he completely dominates the batter. It's usually a strikeout pitch ... and we sit on our couches and ooh ... and aah. It's not one particular pitch in his arsenal, just the one he just threw. It buckles the batters knees or leaves him with a weak wave at the ball. The batter walks away looking at the pitcher and you can almost hear him thinking, "what the fuck?"

Harvey is not getting the movement on his pitches the way he used to. That's why he seems to have lost command. By the time the pitch reaches the plate it's not where he intended it to be. Add to that the lose of velocity on his fastball. He hasn't adjusted. He's confused.

Something's different, his arm angle, maybe his grip. Something in his mechanics has altered how the ball reacts. And now its become a mental thing as well because he hasn't processed the change.

What surprises me is that Dan Warthen hasn't picked up on Harvey's problem yet. It's mental, yes, but only because it was physical first.

There will be some oohs and aahs this afternoon.

arcarsenal : 5/25/2016 10:36 am : link
Harvey's release point just doesn't seem consistent. I mentioned it last night but he kept missing low and away to RH hitters and the pitch location wasn't intentional.. you could tell he was missing.

When he was at his best, he was hitting those low corners on the black at will (especially the inside corner against LH batters) and he's just not locating at all right now. Pitches are either missing badly or tailing right over the heart of the plate belt high and hitters are teeing off.
I know it was joked about last night, but Ronnie kept mentioning
PhiPsi125 : 5/25/2016 10:58 am : link
how Harvey was cupping the ball in his windup and how he's never done that before. Ronnie said that it was a habit that he had to break as a pitcher. Not sure how that plays into everything but it's an example.

I also know that a lot of you disagree, but I feel that A LOT of this is mental/confidence related. The slightest bit of a problem and this guy folds like a deck chair. You can see it through is body language on the mound and in the dugout. I think it definitely plays a part in his meltdowns.

this time last year, Strasburg had a 6.50 ERA and got boo'd at home. went on a lengthy DL stint and came back and dealt the rest of the season (even though the team sucked as a whole).

Strasburg was hurt...Harvey is not.

Big difference.

But I am in the minority in my belief that a stint in the minors could do wonders for him. Warthen hasn't been able to do anything with Harvey for two months. Not excited at those two working on the same crap with worse and worse results. Get Harvey out of the spotlight for a couple of weeks. Beat up on some minor league teams and come back with a vengeance. Who cares how he takes being demoted.

Great...more of the same. I just don't get the Mets.
He did...
ZGiants98 : 5/25/2016 11:08 am : link
Back spasms... an ankle thing... Still, he went out and got bombed game after game for almost two months. When they finally DLed he also was sent to AA, and then AAA to get back on track. If it was strictly injury related, he likely would have rejoined the team, not pitch in the minors.
what's the point of of letting him make his next start
Ten Ton Hammer : 5/25/2016 11:10 am : link
when they wanted to pull him out two starts ago?

getting on Harvey now are the same ones that would have absolutely crucified him and never forgiven him had he stopped at 180 last season. It's absolutely ridiculous. Think of Strasburg a few seasons ago - how would that have gone over with Mets fans when he quit on the team? Now - everyone is sucking his balls like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Had he stayed pitching that year - who knows if they move on to the World Series and win it. The whole thing is a joke. Harvey should do whatever he wants if you ask me, considering all the shit the fans have given him the past year.

WHY WON'T MATT HARVEY TALK TO US? WE'VE ALWAYS TREATED HIM SO FAIRLY!

Listen, the NY media can be pretty bad but its not like all of them
PhiPsi125 : 5/25/2016 11:54 am : link
are out for blood. Some are worse than others but that's part of the game here in NY. Too bad, so sad. There are things you can do to help your image or there are things you can do to egg them on. Matt eggs them on. He does it to himself. The team and Terry's weird comments don't help either, a lot of the times.

As for his injury in Spring Training, I fully believe that the team and Terry made that situation way worse than it could have been. Matt is under no obligation to explain his injury...but it's going to be discussed because he is a very popular public figure. The fact that the team created this aura of mystery coupled with Terry's comments about it only helped the media to go in their own direction. Add to the fact that Terry lets the media know that Harvey was pissed at the media...lol...way to help your player.

Harvey seems a bit thin-skinned, you think? If you want to live with a larger-than-life personality...then own it. You can't reap all the rewards and then piss and moan when things don't go your way. The fans and media will eat you up...and rightfully so.

To me the bullpen is the big thing. When a pitcher starts hurting the team beyond on his own start, he has to sit. Don't understand why they are not giving him a few starts off to clear his head.

A lot of that has to do with Boras shooting his mouth off. Boras is a jackass, who is particularly hated by Mets fans. If you hire him as an agent, be prepared to have blow back.

If Harvey had fired Boras after last season, the fans would be way more on his side through his struggles. Just like they are with DeGrom. Matt chose to retain him so he made his bed and now has to lie in it.
Would love to get
Metnut : 5/25/2016 12:06 pm : link
D'Arnaud back and hitting as the C spot has been a complete black hole in the lineup this entire season.

Based on what i've seen, I would've given Harvey a break from MLB starts to get things cleaned up and worked. However, I don't think the Mets make these decisions lightly, and I'm sure Dan Warthen had input on this, so let's just hope for better results next time out.
