This may seem as a trivial question but...

I am truly curious as to who made the call to bring McAdoo on board.
Some say Coughlin but it seems interesting that he would change what essentially bought him 2 Super Bowl rings with what he had in Gilbride.

So I'm left to question who had the foresight and vision to make a bold move.
Those are two different questions, though

Who decided it was time for a change at OC, and who found/vetted McAdoo.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't TC who decided the former, but I'm sure he was heavily involved in the latter.

Kate Mara
Think of Andy Reid
Shadow : 5/25/2016 3:47 pm : link
Hes the same hot name at the time who blew away John Mara with his football intelligence and the way he conducted himself. Add to that the raves of Mike McCarthy and Arron Rodgers and a few NFL Insiders and you see why Mara is so high on him.

Also hes helping to get our Quarterback in the Hall.
It had to be Reese/Mara, right?
Pete in 'Vliet : 5/25/2016 3:47 pm : link
This is why Mara was ready to dump Coughlin and not Reese. Because, they were in the process together of changing the offense & team core anyway and were waiting for the right time to hand the keys to McAdoo.

At least that is my impression
I think the Giants Org. felt the Offense

was "Broken" and that is when Gilbride "retired". But, he really didn't seem happy about his exit either. When asked about his retirement I recall seeing a huge smirk on his face.
Mara and Jerry Mush

Jerry handed the phone to McAdoo and told him say "What the hell is going on out here",in his best Lombardi voice.

That sealed it

oh? I don't think of her as ugly. She's more on the lovely-gorgeous side of things.

Here, let me help. Kate put a gun to their heads.

I think Gilbride

Was forced out the same way Coughlin was. Also it would make sense ( if Jerry did in fact have a hand in McAdoo's hire ) that the Mara's / Tich's kept Reese going forward given that scenario.
Someone needs to tell Kate

to stop diddling around with the Giants

As long as it may seem as a trivial question
Glover : 5/25/2016 6:30 pm : link
Please. Coughlin didnt make the change and Gilbride retired as much as TC voluntarily stepped down.
As far as who decided McAdoo was the guy, it could have been anyone with good enough sense to recognize that he was the best guy available, even though he never called plays before. Decisive move, and a pretty good decision thus far.
here is another trivial question.

KG. Met him last winter. He retired. He was hoping for a HC job and had one lined up after 2011, but beating SF and going to the Super Bowl cost him that job. Hung around 2012 hoping for another chance at a HC job and got no offers. He knew after 2013 he wasn't getting a look after that season.
125:Agreed. All of 2013 Gilbride had all the looks and manner of a guy
Ivan15 : 5/25/2016 9:30 pm : link
who was waiting for someone to offer him a way out. He didn't quit and he didn't get fired.

I call it a voluntary layoff.
I have to think that
BlackLight : 5/25/2016 10:48 pm : link
once Gilbride was essentially forced out, against Coughlin's wishes, that management was pretty hands off in terms of whom TC chose as the new OC.

Again, what KG said to me was he wanted one more chance as HC and lost it when the Giants made the SB. Said he was the only person on the flight home that was not celebrating because the other team told him they needed to move on. He stayed for two more years hoping for another shot at HC. When 2013 was a disaster he knew his time had passed and decided to leave.
