did a quick search at the top and since it was announced about 10 minutes ago figured there was nothing. yea they'll need a 3, maybe a grad transfer? Or maybe Huerter at 6'5 can play there a bit and they'll go small
his draft stock took a major hit with his crap year. He should have a really strong year this year that might help nba teams not focus on his negatives as much.
all college hoops chat is always welcome. Got to give Bennett credit he's really built a perennial contender at UVA. I know the tournament losses must be frustrating but it was like that with Gary at MD till he finally broke through in 2001 and 2002. Believe me when you go through what we went through even for just like 5 years prior to our resurgence the past few seasons you learn to appreciate always being in the mix even when you come up short. The pre-season top 5? Yawn. why don't they just take UNC/Duke/Kansas/Kentucky and pick them out of a hat and then put a random 5th in there like UVA/UConn/Nova...Look out for Oregon this year, they will be tough again
Cowan, Huerter and Jackson are all top prospects at their position, and Micah Thomas is a borderline 4-star with a high ceiling. Add in Gill and that's not a bad replacement class at all for Maryland
I won't lie - blowing that Cuse game was crushing, absolutely crushing. We never lose that way. It was the first time a Bennett UVA team had ever lost a game they led by double digits at the half. But, whenever I get down about it, I think back to the Dave Leitao era - mediocre at best teams and an embarrassing asshole of a coach - and I thank my lucky stars. We're competitive every year now, and we have a coach and players who represent the school as well as you could ever dream. They're so easy to root for.
As far as next season goes, I think we could finish in the top 10, but I wouldn't be surprised if we spend much of the season in the 15-25 range. So much turnover, losing two starters and three of our top four scorers. The incoming class plus Nichols coming off his transfer year off and Diakite coming off his redshirt season represent the greatest influx of new talent to the program in a long time, but how much they play will depend on how quickly they pick up the pack line. If you don't defend, you're not getting on the court at Virginia. I can see some surprising early season losses, but by the end of the season they might be even better than last year's team.
I feel the same about MD. I think we overated their talent going into last year and the way things are shaping up if the newcomers are for real I think they might be better this year by the end of the year. Chemistry plays a bigger role than people think in college. Sometimes when you have to integrate all of these moving parts they don't mesh together as well as you hope.
PG: Melo, Cowan
SG: Wiley; Huerter
SF: Nickens
PF: Gill, Bender
C: Dodd, Ceko
Bingo Pete, and the 2nd domino falls today...
Jackson to UMD - ( New Window )
1-Duke
2-Nova
3-Kentucky
4-UNC
5-Kansas
6-Arizona
7-Wisconsin
8-Oregon
9-Louisville
10-Virginia
Seems a bit high for Carolina, but what else is new.
