...I know Eli has been more durable, but it is not outrageous that Romo would play 4-5 more...that is the window many here put on Eli.
Ideally Eli has 6-7. Can dream and hope for 11-12. I don't see any reason Romo can't play 3-5 more. Just that he gets hurt and (knock wood, cross fingers, pray) Eli seems to be able to stay healthy and is way more skilled at avoiding the big hit. But as we know bad things can happen in a moment.
Eli probably does have 4-5 left.. Romo doesn't. There's no way he'd make it that long without re-injuring that collarbone. One more and you've got to think that's about it.
he's had back issues too. And it doesn't necessarily take another injury. I'm not a Dr, but I imagine a collarbone injury could affect your arm strength. Look what happened to Peyton once his arm strength started going.
Romo will never grow old. Here is a recent photo... Â

Has been more durable? That's an understatement. And people here think 5 years would be the max you'd get out of Eli, and probably not at the level he's playing at right now.
has been in the league 1 year less; has not had three major injuries; has not missed 27 games due to injury in his career; does not need to extend plays with his feet to be productive; and has no metal parts. Other than that they're two peas in a pod.

I don't think their closeness in age means much. Romo has had an injury riddled career and once he hurt the back a few seasons ago, his body has gone to shit. 2 broken collar bones? He's in a division that has some of the best DLine talent in the NFL and he has to play 6 game against them. Add in the Bengals, Steelers, and Ravens in 2016. He's going to continue to get hit regardless of that OL and he's proven he can't protect himself all that well.
I don't wish him any harm, but 4-5 years seem crazy, unless he plans on being a back up for a good chunk of that timeframe.
Boley's hit in 2010 and the two breaks last year. Bones don't get more durable with age.
He's got a lot of miles on him compared to Eli, despite starting for two fewer seasons. One of the quirks of football is how some guys just have a knack for getting clobbered by big hits, regardless of their mobility. Bob Griffin is one, Romo is another. Even when Eli's been under siege in recent years, he seems to have a sixth sense for avoiding really big hits. Tiki was like that, too.
so when he loses that he's not going to be as good.
Eli on the other hand doesn't need that to be Eli. That's why its such a shame we've wasted him behind an iffy OL for several years. If you protect him, there's no reason he shouldn't be very good into his late 30s.

There's definitely a science to it.. Tiki used to talk about it a lot. It's why Eli usually looks so doofy when he gets hit or sacked. I think it's about kind of learning to release the tension in your body as you're going down instead of trying to fight the ground so hard.
I just think it ia whistling past the graveyard to assume Eli will remain injury free, and a bit hypocritical to laugh off Romo when our team could be there in an instant. It is possible after all that Eli has also been a bit lucky.
He's very lucky he has that golden O-line, but there's no such thing as a zero sack season, and every time, Dallas will hold it's breath while cursing the fools who passed on good QB's in the draft.
will remain injury free. He can have a season ending hit at any time just like anyone else. But he's durable and Romo isn't, and Romo claiming he can make it to 40 seems wildly unrealistic based on his health trajectory. He would basically need to not get hurt anymore to last that long.
Because the fact is he already hasn't. But that's another point going in Eli's favor. There is a toughness with Eli that Romo does not have. Take the NFC Championship game against the 49ers for example. I don't think Romo would have made it past the half way point of the 1st quarter in that game. Eli will get injured and you won't even know it.
That's immaterial. The point isn't Eli, the point is that Romo has had numerous injuries in his career. If he hasn't been durable as a younger player, he's certainly not likely to magically become sturdy in his late 30s.
on every Sunday. I think he works at NY special surgery. I can't remember his name but they go through all the injuries to major players and he discusses from his experience how long recovery will be and how much the injury will effect the playing ability. He explained that Romo having fractured the same area so many times is a serious risk on any type of hit. He said the bone at this point is like a potato chip and could refracture at any time even on a minor hit.
Every play at this point can be Romo's last. The Adamantium reinforced clavicle will last exactly as long as it takes a DT to plant him...then it's /snap, crackle, pop...season over.
I sincerely hope this guy's healthy. Forget walking away from the game... you just wonder about WALIKG at all in 5-10 years. He's busted up only a little less than Evil Kneival

The 49ers knocked Romo out of a game early in that season.
After Kitna starting throwing picks, they put Romo back in with his broken ribs or whatever and won the game in OT.
Considering it was a week 2 game against a team that wasn't considered good at that point, I guess he wasn't hurt that badly but still don't think it would have warranted him coming back unless he really wanted to.

Except. That's inane. Romo has had reoccurring semi serious back issues and now a twice broken clavicle. Eli's worst injury ever was a bad ankle for like 2 games. Not a good comparison at all

So lets compromise at Eli will play 7-9 more.
I can't believe Dallas did not pick up a solid QB backup/future. Stupid, they rolled the dice...

I agree with those who point out that Romo is held together with bolts and wires - far from a sure thing.

Snacks should be looking for that potatoe...err ....collar bone

To land on him. Most likely Vernon puts him on the shelf.
