Standouts from the OTAS day 2:

BlueLou : 5/26/2016 5:35 am
Tavarres King, Ryan Nassib, Tevin Wade.

Wish we could find a way to keep Nassib around until Eli retires, I think he has the goods for a smooth transition. But it really seems unlikely, unless Eli and the Giants could win another SB this year.

If we did win it, I could imagine Eli might elect to retire. Mostly because he has taken a lot of hard knocks over his career, and the whole uncertainty of CTE. Not because I suspect his skills are declining in the face of his last 2 years' performance!

So Nassib looked good in shorts, throwing to a couple of scrubs
ZogZerg : 5/26/2016 6:40 am : link
and you are hoping he will be our starter next year after the Giants win the Superbowl and Eli retires because you think he's worried about CTE?

Really? LOL.
I think it was a fair comment
grizz299 : 5/26/2016 6:54 am : link

Yes it was only a early season workout in shorts, but the poster's entitled to draw conclusions and he prefaced everything with "I think".

Blockhead, attention seeking is not in the O.P. but rather from the peanut gallery where someone had a need to mouth off and show what a jerk he is.
Eli seems like a player
joeinpa : 5/26/2016 6:57 am : link
Who would want to squeeze every second from his career. It is rare when a professional athlete leaves when they still believe they can play, even in the era of big money.

I agree Nassib might be a good successor to Eli, but I think Eli plays another 5 years if he can.
Again

I blame Coughlin for not playing Nassib at least part time when the season(s) were lost. We just don't know what we have on the bench.

I don't think Eli would retire if he wins the SB this year.
my very unpopular opinion -
I Love Clams Casino : 5/26/2016 7:58 am : link
When Nassib came into the game against Minnesota he drove the Giants right down the field and scored a quick TD.

I got beat down for saying so, but I though he looked awesome. The popular "what are you an idiot" consensus was "Minnesota softened their defense...tell me you couldn't see that?"

And my answer is "No, I couldn't see that" I don't think for a second Minnesota softened their defense, why would they? Especially against a backup.

The emotional responses were pretty exceptional, and most took it as an indictment of Eli. Why is that an indictment of Eli? I didn't say "start Nassib" I didn't say "Nassib is better". Eli's a 2-time SB MVP...I just don't get it. I think Nassib might be a gem in the rough.

We have seen backup QBs come in for portions of a season
UberAlias : 5/26/2016 8:09 am : link
Do well, then some team pays big $$ to land them and they never meet the expectations. Philly seems to get a lot of draft picks for their backups in these scenarios.

But the point is, there is no way to tell unless a guy has a full season, or more (lots of young QB looked like future stars but never pan out), in the fire.

I'm sort of hoping Nassib will stick around as a backup until Eli retires. Though unlikely, it is not out of the question.
Nothing wrong with liking potential with Nassib
Johnny5 : 5/26/2016 8:24 am : link
He's athletic, has a good arm, and generally plays pretty well when he's in game situations.

If we know anything about Eli, it is that he is extremely competitive. So I am not predicting he would retire. But he is also extremely bright - his wonderlic score was as high as anyone in the league after Fitzpatrick from Harvard. I wouldn't even try to predict what Eli will do after his next SB victory. Only he knows the punishment he has withstood and how often he's been concussed.

Hell most of us would have quit immediately after his NFL title win vs. SF... if not during that game alone! He sure as hell doesn't show when he has been banged up, and sure as hell has never spoken publicly about it.

But I would bet he's thought about it, as has his wife I imagine. The CTE info we know already is frightening enough, no? How old are his kids now?

Even if he wins MVP the next two SB is not going to walk away from the game or the big contract he just signed C'OM MAN!

I am hoping Eli wins his 3rd SB soon, and has the option to rationally consider retiring at the top of his game, and healthy. And I pray he lives a long life free of CTE.

I hope Nassib could replace him effectively, too, and isn't forced to leave the Giants to get a shot at starting. Is that so bad?
I don't see any of that happening just yet. I would like the Super
wgenesis123 : 5/26/2016 8:58 am : link
Bowl victory though and I think it is always possible if you get Eli in the playoffs. I think possible landing spots for Nassib as a free agent next year is a more likely topic of discussion. I would hate to see him go to the Cowboys.
Nassib does not have a good arm
Giants2012 : 5/26/2016 9:18 am : link
his deep ball is a loft. Maybe with these rules he could be successful b/c Russel Wilson floats his ball although his arm is stronger than Nassib.

Quick release, accurate mid and shirt range passes yet his deep ball hangs. Isn't his lack of arm strength the reason he dropped in the draft? Some had him going #1 overall in mocks until the combine when the ball floated everywhere.

And how long did Aaron Rogers keep the bench warm behind Brett Favre? Your input is poisonous and not welcome when it is baseless like now!
Nassib
Dragon : 5/26/2016 9:21 am : link
The only person to blame for not playing him the last two years is TC. The idea to win games did not save his job in fact it hurt his chances to return and we still have no idea what we have in Nassib.

Fans don't know. Coaches probably have a pretty god idea.

Obviously they have a better idea - but there are guys who are simply "gamers"...I think Nassib might be a gamer
With all due "respect for BlueLou's opinion"

Did you live through the beating poor Archie took with the "Aints"?
Eli would not be allowed to speak at family gatherings the rest of his life if he walked away from a Super Bowl team healthy. Cooper's career ended by injury, before it started. Big brother, Peyton, tried to play post Neck surgery, and Dad, unmercifully ran for his life for 10 years.
Eli would not walk, from being on top, with Peyton's shadow behind him.

Nassib has an excellent arm. Far stronger than Eli's (which of course does not make him a better QB than Eli). Not sure how that's even in doubt.

So Nassib is now the next Rogers? And you are calling my input (on Eli not going retire if he wins another Superbowl) "Baseless". The Nassib/Rogers comparison is great input. Keep up the good work you fucking moron.

Well I acknowledged that Eli is obviously highly competitive... are you echoing that sentiment and adding the additional thought that he isn't his own man and is bound to follow Archie and Peyton's path to continuing to play until he's a shadow of his former self?

I doubt you have a clue about the psycological make up of Eli and his family and if that's even relevant.

Consider this: why has Eli played his best under the most trying and dramatic conditions, when Peyton has played his worst in similar pressurized scenarios?

But you think Eli has Peyton's "shadow behind him." What the heck does that even mean?

Fortune Cookie psychology right here.

will be good to play another 4-5 years very easily i would hope they could keep nassib after using 2 picks to get him and failing to trade him to re-coup those picks they would be better to keep him

the question is would nassib be willing to sit behind eli for another 5 years when there are teams that have a starting job for the taken available?

he has looked good in some practice and pre-season flashes but they dont know if he is good enough to take over from eli.

they may need to spend another mid round draft pick next draft or maybe the following one and groom eli's eventual successor as we have seen the risks and cost to trade up if you dont have a guy waiting to take over from your franchise QB
