One that comes to mind for me is Marion Barber. Guy burned out quickly but had a few years where he was about as hard to tackle as anyone I can remember. Ran angry. Like a bigger Ahmad Bradshaw.
I hate the Cowboys, but I highly respected the Aikman teams. Emmitt Smith was one of the best, toughest backs the division ever had. (I believe Tiki was the best though)
John Riggins. Really hard to hate lunchpail monsters like him.
Harold Carmichael. Just a wonderful, classy player to watch. 11 feet tall, hands coated in Gorilla Glue.
Jaworski. Because it was so much fun watching Lawrence Taylors personal punching bag in action. Really, Jaws took more punishment from LT than any other QB. Dude was running for his life in Giants Stadium for several years straight.
Joe Pisarcik, Eagles - because nothing was better than seeing him out of Giant blue!
Roger Staubach. I hated the Cowboy so much back then - more than I've ever hated any team. But that sonofabitch was as cool as they come, a true gentleman and a dynamite QB.
I think this guy epitomized what it means to be a dedicated NFL player. I don't think he ever really had much of a chance to be a starter and with high character persevered in many difficult situations.

if you played well enough and long enough to get noticed, you are a star. London Fletcher wasn't Captain Glamorous, but his production puts him in star territory.
I din't mind guys like Robert Newhouse, Ottis Anderson as a Card, Roy Green, Joe Washington, Jim Hart, Darryl Green - but you could make the argument all of them were stars.
For me Witten and DeMarcus Ware are two of the classiest guys you'll find in the NFL and 1st ballot HOFers to boot. They would likely top any list for me.
No one stands out to me on the Eagles or Skins, although if he wasnt tragically I have a feeling I might be talking about Sean Taylor.
Turned on good season with the Skins into a big free agent deal with the Saints. He lasted part of one unproductive season, which ended when he was caught robbing Duce McAllister's car and was immediately cut from the team. Never played football again.
thread because I am fairly certain guys like Staubach, Aikman, Witten, Riggins, Monk, Carmichael and Ware are some of the best players to ever have played.
Joe Pisarcik is actually over-qualified to meet this definition and should not be considered either.
Something more in the middle like Charles Mann is a good choice...

haha. got me there. totally missed that part of it.
Curtis - I like your list except for Brian Dawkins
who i thought, while talented, was one of the biggest pricks of all-time.
He would typically come in after a guy was tackled for a late shot often spearing his helmet into the back of players. Never got called for it either because of the respect the refs had for him I guess?
Literally every player listed is a HoFer or made a pro bowl except Hank Baskett and Albert Connell.
Hey, I said Alvin Harper too.
I did say Stephen Davis.. I don't know if Davis was ever really thought of as a "star".. I remember him being a beast in '99 and having a few other very good years but I just don't remember the overall perception of him ever being what it was for guys like Faulk or Emmitt. I felt like he was kind of borderline.
I still remember that embarrassing run he popped off against us when he was at the pile and the defense just quit on the play and assumed he was down and he popped free and ran all the way into the endzone. Pretty sure that was the day Jeremy Lincoln got abused badly too. We got slaughtered. Terrible home opener after that really weird Week 1 win in TB where we did absolutely nothing offensively and capitalized in a few Dilfer picks.
Gary Clark scared me much more than he did. Michael Westbrook was awesome in Colorado, sucked to see him with Washington, but he was one of those players I always liked for some odd reason.
As far as Eagles non-stars? I always respected Jason Avant. He had a solid career, but is a relatively under the radar type of guy. Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent were also a physical duo at corner.
Dallas Players I respected? Ken Norton Jr. Kenneth Gant for his weird special teams routine.
Only one - "Bullet" Bob Hayes. He terrorized the Giants (and everybody else).
I remember watching him ('65 or '66), he caught a TD, I thought "he just got lucky", then he kept doing it. The Giants couldn't do anything to stop him. He's the only division opponent that I truly feared.
My first thought was indeed the Hogs... but they were about ad "star" as OL ever become! And isn't Russ Grimm in the HOF?
BlueLou: your right its the only offensive line that I can think of that had a nickname, defensive lines had many (Fearsome Foursome, Purple People Eaters, Steel Curtain, New York Sack Exchange, etc...)

Shame on you FredDryer! You forgot our own! (And Bill Parcels'wonderful humor.)
Aikman, Dorsett, Pearson, Darryl Green (best CB in my lifetime, in my opinion)
That's about it for division players.
Outside the Giants, the players who I really liked were Dickerson, Marcus Allen, Freeman McNeil, Joe Klecko, John Elway, Dan Fouts, Kellen Winslow (Sr.), Larry Fitzgerald, Lott, Rod Woodson
Not nearly as much respect for Aikman and Smith. IMO two very good players but fawned over. IMO Smith played behind one of the most talented lines IN NFL history on a team that was loaded everywhere on P. For an all time team RB is one of the positons that hasnt chance as much over the years. . I can think of at least 10 guys I'd take over him at their peak. Aikman very good but he had so much to work with s well

I was happy for him to get a chance at an immortal moment. I liked him in Tampa -- threw so damn hard. I remember an S.I. cartoon of Jimmie Giles' hands exploding.
Solid, tough guy, underrated, long career.
Westbrook was a star.
Dawkins was a punk that liked to cheep shot other players.
Jason Witten. Always the professional. A HOF IMHO.
Hey, I always respected Reggie White and Troy Aikman!
John Riggins. Really hard to hate lunchpail monsters like him.
Harold Carmichael. Just a wonderful, classy player to watch. 11 feet tall, hands coated in Gorilla Glue.

I stand by Eagle Joe Pisarcik!

This is it as far as stars or non-stars.
Albert Connell. Fuck that guy.
Brian Westbrook
Brian Mitchell
Chris Cooley
Trent Cole
Santana Moss
London Fletcher
Remember Monte Coleman? That guy was a bad ass.
Lmao one of the best tight ends to ever play the game and a first ballot hall of famer

Also Runyan became a pain in the ass.
Just a pro's pro.
Jeremiah Trotter, Donovan McNabb, and Freddie Mitchell for the comic relief.
Chris Canty, Jay Ratliff, Terry Glenn
London Fletcher (arguably a star, though), Clinton Portis, Chris Cooley
Honorable mention: Terrell Owens

I admired his longevity & his character off the field.

Lol.
Also may 2016.

Lots of obscure non-star players there!
