It's a family destination and as far as the "it's for tourists" BS it's also the heart of the theater district and a transportation hub so that's a load crap not to mention elitist snobby crap as well.
to Times Square a couple of weeks ago. It was the friend's first time ever there. I was driving and dropped them off. They decided to take a selfie and one of the Elmo's came up behind them while they were doing it, then demanded money. My daughter was cool and told him to get lost, but he was very aggressive and the friend was scared, went into her wallet and started to pull out cash. My daughter stayed strong and wouldn't let her pay the guy. He actually threatened that he would hunt them down.
I don't have a problem with them hanging around, but when there's like 2 or 3 Elmo's and another 2 or 3 Grover's, plus all the other superheroes, etc., and they're all huddled together, they start to get competitive and take advantage of tourists. That's not a good thing. In no way were my daughters trying to sneak off a picture with Elmo in it. They just wanted a selfie in Times Square.
Others have a sofia vergara vibe and should be there year round.
Many times I stay in TS as a business traveler for convenience.

Times Square is family destination now....it's not appropriate for them to be handing out there. FYI I feel the same about the Naked Cowboy.
There is nothing really inappropriate. What I have a problem with is them basically trying to scam people out of money for pictures.
Do you have young kids? If so you have no issue with some grown woman flashing their tits in front of them?
