NFT: Knicks question for old timers

Who was the primary ball handler during the Michael Ray Richardson/Ray Williams era, they both have high assist numbers. Same thing with Clyde and the Pearl, I was always under the impression that Clyde handled the ball more.
Yes Clyde

Frazier handled it more than Monroe.

M. Ray did as well but he and Williams both really pushed it up the floor. They were fun to watch fly down the court together. The Ray-Ray show!
Clyde and Richardson were the point guards.

Ray Williams could play either guard spot, so he played sg, when paired with Ray Richardson. The Pearl was a sg, but he had a collection of spin moves that were unique.

think of Monroe but I always thought that Clyde played better when paired with Dick Barnett...as for who handled the ball more I don't remember it being one or the other.
Holzman coached both pairs

and not just the guards, but everyone on those teams would hit the open man and thus get some assists. The concept of a "point" guard developed over time in the public mind and was highly influenced by an article about Kevin Porter and all the assists he was piling up.
Clyde was the field general

Monroe the scoring off guard. Richardson was also the ball handler.
Dick Barnett

Played the best defense out of the bunch and was a clutch shooter. Clyde was the field general. The Pearl was a magician on the offensive end. They were a thing to behold.
The only thing I'll add to this is that if Michael Ray Richardson

hadn't been available when the Knicks pick came in, Willis Reed was gonna select Larry Bird as a future pick. Things would have sure been different for the next decade for us Knicks fans if that had come to pass.

Never heard that before. That is interesting.
Earl Monroe

Was one of the very greatest basketball players of all time. During his early Knick years he sacrificed his game for the good of the team.

Isn't it, Joe? I wished at the time of the draft that Willis had take Bird; patience sure would have paid off. The guy was a superstar in college, and you knew it would translate in the pros.
