NFT: why did you get married

Zebrka : 5/28/2016 2:26 am
honestly, be honest. did you get married because you really wanted to or because that was what was expected of you ? i know there are no girls here so was your girlfriend nagging you or did you eventually do it

I was pressured when I was a young boy because I knocked up my girl-f at 18 and i HAD to get married to her. that was the 50s! what are you hipsters saying these days?

a couple of my grandsons say they refuse, REFUSE to get married because of garbage like alomony and child support...i say GOOD! pass, find your own way and stay away from the headaches and hey ....bone a few gals on the way out but always wrap it up!

It's that pesky Randy in CT.

Zebrka: you told me you're 77. How long did the marriage last? I got married because I (we) wanted to in 1983. Never looked back. Had children the following year and in 1989.

Because she was too beautiful inside and out to not want to
BlueLou : 5/28/2016 5:06 am : link
marry her!

And, well, of course because she said "yes" despite all odds. Two beautiful and great daughters within 2 years of our marriage confirmed it was the right decision.
Chris: I wonder myself.
Giants_ROK : 5/28/2016 5:42 am : link
Calvera: No, come on, come on, tell me why.
Vin: It's like a fellow I once knew in El Paso. One day, he just took all his clothes off and jumped in a mess of cactus. I asked him that same question, "Why?"
Calvera: And?
Vin: He said, "It seemed to be a good idea at the time."

Both times.
So you got married in the 50s and your son just graduated college?

Mike in Philly : 5/28/2016 8:57 am : link
my heart skipped a beat. When I looked in her eyes, the rest of the world faded; the sound of her voice drowned out all other sounds; the touch of her hand took my breath away. We were engaged six weeks after we met, and married six months later. And after 31 1/2 years, on the day she passed, my heart broke, and my world crumbled.

And I would do all over again in a heartbeat...

Thank you Wally

thanks for sharing that i actually got emotional reading that. my daughter was born yesterday. I'm with my girl now but we aren't married yet but plan to be. I'm 28 she's 25 we met when i was 22. wouldn't change a thing.
So your son refuses to get married
Matt M. : 5/28/2016 11:23 am : link
because of alimony and child support? Neither of those are part of marriage, but rather dissolving a marriage. If those are the first things he thinks of about marriage, then no, he shouldn't get married.
There was never any doubt in my mind
Matt M. : 5/28/2016 11:27 am : link
My wife and I knew each other in HS, but hadn't spoken in a decade. We were each out with friends who had dated in college. When they started talking, I went right over to her and knew what I wanted. My instincts were spot on, because she is not only beautiful inside, but outside. She was the first person who truly supported me and believed in me. She helped change my life for the better.

I live every day to make her life and my kids' lives better. I knew that first time we ran into each other and my feelings haven't changed or wavered 1 bit. I never have a regret and truly feel blessed after nearly 16 years and 3 children.
Because she was better looking than me, smart...
manh george : 5/28/2016 11:30 am : link
and almost as crazy. We like a lot of the same things and have very similar values. I need smart. We have been together 36 years. We waited 8 years after becoming a couple to have a son--when we were both 41.

She's still better looking than me, smart and almost as crazy. The gap in the latter has narrowed considerably.

gidie, we had a great time, but it was too short. Hopefully, we can meet again along the trail. I must say, we did not have enough time for you to give me all of the inside scoop on members at BBI. Next time I will take notes.
Please tell mrs. gidie that we truly enjoyed our dinner and hope to meet again.

I wasn't getting any younger.

So why the hell not!

Will be 20 years this fall.

I got lucky in that she also has turned out to TRULY be the most genuinely decent human being I know. Now, that's not to say she isn't a pain in the ass, and truly crazy (see: female) at times! (She'd say the same about me being a PITA ... OK, she'd scream that from a mountaintop. Shut up gidie.)

But despite marriage being a pretty bizarre thing, in general, it turns out she WAS the right one.

Like I said ... pretty damn fortunate here.

Well...

Forty five responses (some of which were jokes) and over 3k members, last I checked. So not exactly a ringing endorsement for marriage.

Well, considering your posting habits in the 90s into the 2000s, I figured you of all people would agree about the Communists.
