I don't know a great deal about him but from his scouting reports he sounds like a player. I think he has a great shot at winning the #4 or 5 CB spot and see most of his time on defense in the slot.
It would seem Wade has the lead for the 4th CB spot Â
He played well enough last year to probably be hard to unseat. Deayon is in competition with McFadden and Jacobs for the 5th spot. It's certainly possible but a PS spot might be more likely.
I would hate to see him start because he probably can't tackle a RB by himself. If he is use in nickel & dime I guess there's not as much chance of him having to tackle, but if he was ever forced into a starting role it'd be tough to get by with him on the edge. He would have to make a name on specials as a return man in my book.
Have you seen the guys playing secondary the past 4 years? Horrible. I'm sure he is better than all of those bums, especially covering the little quick guys from the slot.
Wade probably has a leg up for the 4th CB spot because he has experience in the system. That being said, his performance on the field has not been stellar so I wouldn't call that job safe. Realistically it is between Wade, Deayon and Hunter for the 4th and maybe 5th CB spot. I say maybe 5th because both Bennett Jackson and Mykkele Thompson have CB experience so the team may want the last DB spot to go to someone who can play more positions if there is a numbers crunch elsewhere with players who looked better.
Don’t rule out Hunter either. The Giants were apparently on the phone with him while the draft was still ongoing, or shortly after it ended. He has the height for a boundary corner.
he didn't know who Deayon was... or Thompson, for that matter... he didn't even know what Bowl game they went to...but he was sure rockin that Boise hat and sweatshirt.
He's a first round talent in an udfa body. It's up to Spags to find a way to use his big play ability. Btw, he's also known to be an excellent and fearless tackler.
Pre- draft from Rotoworld:
In addition to the Colts and Browns sniffing around Deayon as a draft commodity, Pauline notes that the 5-foot-9, 159-pounder also has a visit to the Giants' facilities on his upcoming schedule. During Thursday's Pro Day, the diminutive defensive dynamo notched a 37-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-7 broad jump. His 40-yard dash times came home at 4.42 seconds and 4.47 seconds. Per Pauline, he looked "terrific" in position drills. Some squads will throw demerits his way on their boards due to his size, but outside of that drawback, he makes for an interesting sleeper corner prospect.
possibly contribute more than Apple this year. He is a perfect slot corner. Apple belongs on the outside and it would be stupid to try to make him do something his body type won't allow. This was a good FA pick up, and I think this Boise State secondary could really improve us this year. You are always going by hunches as a fan, looking at his tape he looks like the kind of player, and gamer, we need back there. DRC is an ok player. That's it. He acts like he doesn't give a damn. He needs to go, which is why the Apple pick made sense.

DRC is an ok player? Lol 'ok' then.
I believe a Slot Corner plays close to LOS and has to Â
be physical with Slot WR coming off the LOS for a short gain to keep drives alive.
Slot CB has to be nimble to avoid all the congestion around the LOS and can get by with slow 40 time.
Please correct above if I have it all wrong.
Dime may be a better fit, but he is still limited.
It is because he has all the other measurements other than height and weight that he is UDFA -- and why so many teams wanted to see if he could contribute. Perhaps he will and there is nothing to be lost if he can not.
here is an article about Slot CB and link to Slot WR Â
I think he said it all right there. Not many redeeming physical traits. Kid would have to be best tech safety in nfl to be any good. I guess there is that chance but short skinny not a blazer. I guess we shall see but I would think wade amongst others would beat him out.
will need to show up big on STs to have a chance at the 53.
More likely a PS candidate battling with Hunter and Smalley.
Smalley may actually have a better chance at the 53 based on his kick return ability and blazing straight line speed that may translate into a solid STs gunner prospect.
Projects as a slot corner only, and has no phenomenal physical skills to develop. As a slot corner he is very small, and has no better than average speed.
Consequently, he makes the team as the starting slot corner, or he does not make the team at all. Possible PS if he shows as the 2nd best slot corner in the organization.
Jerraud Powers is 5'9'' and he was a board favorite.
Neon needs some lbs. though. No doubt. I like the idea of him in the slot though. Another youngin in the secondary...
I notice that people around here love to fudge numbers a bit when it suits their argument.
Powers is 5'10", and he is also 187lbs. Deayon isn't nearly as big as Powers. Saying he needs some weight is an understatement.
Deayon is 5'8", 150 lbs. That is very, very undersized for today's NFL no matter how you sugarcoat it, and no matter how many misleading numbers you post.
At 5'8"" and 158 he is Trindon Holliday on the defensive side. If he was a receiver (on this team) I'd give him a 60-40 chance. But given that he is a corner and one of the prerequisites is tackling 230 lb running backs, I'm not sure how long his slight frame will hold up. I'll give him a 40-60 chance. Might be a good PS candidate for a year to see if he can add 10-12 lbs. Then you'll have Jayron Hosley II.

The kid is SEVERELY undersized. I'd be flabbergasted if he made the team let along became our slot CB.
His lack of size is a problem, but he is 5’8”. He also had sixteen INTs and 25 PBUs in the last three seasons, and has punt return skills.

I would love our defensive backfield to have MWC representation...Berhe and McFadden from SDSU... Deayon and Thompson from BSU.
He is small ( not short ) and will take the brunt of contact with large ( 200 lb plus ) players and don't think he will hold up.
