Before the draft I felt that Anquan was needed on this team. However looking at our wide receivers as they stand I see a stud number one in OBJ, a promising number 2 in the rookie, a good number three in Harris and a wild-card of Victor Cruz who I'm thinking if he plays he's at least a serviceable number 2 or number 3. At Best he's probably a very good number two. We also have a young potential in several of the receivers on our roster including Davis who is apparently doing well in camp. By the way, I use the terminology of number one, two, and three receivers because it seems that our offense will be asking the receivers to play multiple positions.
Do you still think we need another receiver?
I agree with the OP (wanted Boldin but was satisfied with Shepard pick.) I think the NY Giants are set for WR right now. I believe if Cruz is damaged goods, we will grab a veteran WR like Boldin on a short term team friendly contract.
But the question is a silly one (apologies to the OP). There is no way the Giants can add the 3rd WR that is needed during 2016 absent a major trade (and that's NEVER going to happen). So 2016 is set in stone from a top notch WR standpoint. They can add spot players but what is needed is what Carl Banks/Harry Carson did for LT - and the Giants aren't picking up the equivalent of Carl Banks/Harry Carson at WR at any point the rest of this season.
Many expect a lot from Shepard, but OBj's are rare.....
Can Harris improve or is what you see is what you got?
After that, all you have is wishful thinking....
At what level can Cruz play? And for how long? And if Cruz does start, this forces Shepard and Harris, who are more slot receivers, to play outside....
So while we may have a lot of bodies at WR, we still have to separate, the chaff from the wheat.....unfortunately, there is little wheat out there...
I see OBJ, a rookie slot receiver, a likely to be waived -injured or, at best, not-what-he-was slot receiver, and a back-up slot receiver-punt returner and little else that could reasonably be expected to be NFL quality. That still leaves a spot open without some creative line-ups or play designs. Yeah, we are going to need some creative line-ups or play designs.
Cruz is a huge question mark. my impression was that he wasn't all that stellar after his one great season, prior to getting hurt. who knows if he would have turned it around. now you have to factor in the injury.
hopes for the rookie, but at this point, those hopes are based on college production. NFL is a different beast.
Davis and Harris: here's where the coaches know best. Fans didn't see enough of Davis to be able to form any opinion. Harris has been around a while, but showed flaws. I'm guessing he's reached his peak and has been judged to be a backup WR.
But, we also have to consider other receiving options at RB and TE. Vereen can be an outlet. Tye as well. The rookie RB is supposedly pretty good, but again, this is the big leagues.
We know what we have in OBJ, Harris, Vereen. other than that we don't know. If some of the question marks are answered in the positive, then it'll be a good season.
We have, more or less, the best we're going to have for this season.
I feel much the same way about the WRs as I do safety. Given the choice between giving a shot to a young player with potential or an aged stop gap, my preference is to roll with youth. If we were a team with SB aspirations and this was the missing piece, I'd feel differently. But we are talking about a young team with a new head coach -let's work towards building something lasting.
Otherwise we risk losing him as both a serviceable back-up WR and our top returner.
The one thing I hope to see, and never have seen a great justification why he was inactive down the stretch, is Davis take a productive role @ WR. Davis is a significant wild card in this question. He was drafted and has a year in the system. If he has developed into someone who should be getting playing time and he can push for the #3 spot (Meaning he slides outside someone else slides inside) then they are in good shape.
With Cruz I think you need to consider him similar as the UDFA's meaning he has no guarantee to make this roster. Any significant injury to Cruz will likely end his Giants career.
I see 4 WR on the team from OBJ, Shep, Davis and Harris.
Miles White is a very good special teams player. As a WR he's just a guy. I think he's under fierce competition, especially if 1 of the bigger WR emerge.
Everyone else is to green to count.
So i se it as there are 2 spots open, and Cruz and the rest of the guys are competing for those spots.
Shepard is being counted on for far more than is usually asked of a non-premium draft choice.
We have depth, but not at the top.
As to Dable, unless he shows a natural ability for STs, I feel the PS is his best case scenario for the start of 2016.
Tavarres King 4.47 40 is a dime a dozen. This athletic trait will neither make, nor break his future with the team.
We have the money and a vet WR like Boldin will not be expensive. I am very surprised that the Giants haven't signed a decent vet WR. Do it know when there are still options.
dable is the most intriguing candidate due to his height with beckham, cruz and shepard all 6 ft or under they need a taller WR for the fade that was mannings signature throw when they had plax and feel they need that play in the redzone
geremy davis seams like a lock to make the roster from his play in OTA's at least
In a perfect world Eli would have a bigger Plaxico-esque type target to throw to opposite OBJ. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world.
To me, I would rather have about 7 other WRs on the roster than him. We'll also find a PR to take his place.

There are several coaches that have said they think the new Kick Off rule will result in less kicks into the end zone and more returns.
Coaches don't want to give up the extra 5 yards that easily.
Harris was a very good and reliable WR when asked to be. He is a guy who had no issues going over the middle for them.
He returns kicks, punts and can play WR - that really is 3 players
They are not getting rid of him
I see the 6 WR as
OBJ, Cruz, Shepard, Harris, Davis, Powe
your 5th & 6th are going to be young guys - you do not keep vet WR on for that role in this league
Harris is not going anywhere his versatility heart and toughness makes him a Key player .
Dable from the tape is a Longshot IMO it's like jumping from High school to the Pro's .
Powe is an interesting player that could pay dividends down the road .
King is a bit of a surprise although its way to early to tell but he looks to be very athletic and I don't think his
4.47 is an issue .Not sure what Jerry Rice posted in the 40
but straight line speed is more a dime a dozen .
We have made some trades in the past I don't doubt that if someone does not emerge that we will add a Veteran .
And I would have rather have had James Jones over RR any day of the week .
If Lewis shows promise and keeps his head on straight he could be a practice squad addition .
