NFT: Yanks vs Blue Jays tonight - 7p

B in ALB : 5/30/2016 5:04 pm
Memorial Day edition of night baseball in Canadia tonight playing against the Toronto Syringes.

Some news:

Severino sent down

Ref called up

Ackley to 15 day DL

It all sounds good to me.

But Ref isn't in the lineup tonight.

And apparently the Cubs are interested in Eovaldi. Don't think so fuck holes.

Nova on the bump tonight.
Cubs want Eovaldi?
arniefez : 5/30/2016 5:06 pm : link
What's coming back? Hopefully someone with a higher OBP than 285. They can have Chapman too for the right price.
Good Severino needed to be sent down to

Joe will find a way to keep him on the bench.
I'd trade Eovaldi for Baez
Kulish29 : 5/30/2016 6:05 pm : link
Not one for one but, if the package with Baez as the center piece was attractive, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Unless Baez can play 3rd full time
BigBlueShock : 5/30/2016 6:17 pm : link
which I don't think he can, then that's a terrible idea, IMO. Baez is a strikeout machine that can't play defense. If they trade Eovaldi, who's pitching in his place? You don't trade young pitching for a guy that really has no position and strikes out like its his job.
Really?
Kulish29 : 5/30/2016 6:30 pm : link
Funny, a lot of people here couldn't stand Eovaldi. Now he's strung together 3 very good starts and, he's untradeable?

Baez is still only 23 years old, has enormous power and the quickest hands in the game when it comes to hitting (think young Soriano). He's really the only attractive, attainable option the Cubs have. They're not trading Rizzo, Russell or Bryant. If the Yankees wanted Zobrist they could've signed him in the offseason. Trading for a top prospect? He better be MLB ready soon and, even if he is, the bitching about trading a SP for a prospect would be insufferable.
Wtf?
BigBlueShock : 5/30/2016 7:21 pm : link
Who the hell said Eovaldi is "untradeable"? So because I said that I wouldn't trade him for a guy that has no position and strikes out a billion times, that's saying he's untradeable. Holy shit balls.

And by the way, Eovaldi has been very good for a lot longer than 3 starts. He's still young and has always had a ton of talent. He's just been inconsistent as hell. I'd rather take my chances that he's finally figured it out than trade him for a guy like Baez. He's ultimately a DH in the AL. No thanks. The Cubs are just a bad match, honestly. As you said, Baez is really the only guy that they'd consider trading, and that's a bad way of doing business. Accepting Baez simply because he's the most obtainable?

Nobody ever said Eovaldi is untradeable. It's incredibly strange that you read my post and took that away from it. I'd deal Eovaldi, I just wouldn't do it for Baez. He's awful.

Severino needs to learn how to change speeds and stay out of the middle of the plate.

We seem to roll with Beltran at DH. ARod and Tex are rally killers nowadays.

First, don't be so defensive. I never mentioned you as an Eovaldi opposer. I simply mentioned that there were a lot of Eovaldi detractors on BBI for the past two months.

Secondly, on Eovaldi, we agree. I only mentioned the last three starts because most have a short attention span. I know he has been on of the better starters in the Yanks rotation and, I think he has potential to be a #1 starter if he can finally stay consistent.

Lastly, on Baez, like you said, I only mentioned him because he's really the only piece that the Cubbies would likely consider trading and, because they were the team that was mentioned as having potential interest. I think he has All-Star potential, you think he's nothing but a DH. Ok, on this we disagree. But you cannot deny the talent he has. If, and I agree it's a huge if, he can put it all together, he's one hell of a player. Even if he half puts it together, he's better than Headley. Bottom line is, the Yankees need to continue to gather young, talented players. Baez is that. I'm not saying I want to trade Eovaldi to get him (my preference would be them packaging Miller or Champman plus others to obtain him) but if a package with Baez as the main player was intriguing enough, I would not be upset if Eovaldi were part of the deal.

Fair enough
BigBlueShock : 5/30/2016 9:55 pm : link
I appreciate the response and it makes sense. I agree that Baez is talented, and maybe Yankee Stadium would help him, I just think the Yanks have enough bats in the lineup that strike out too much. A big reason that they have such an issue with RISP is because so many of the bats in the lineup don't make contact enough. Now, if the Cubs are willing to take on Ellsbury and his contract in the deal, welcome aboard, Baez!
Hell, if the Cubs took Ellsbury and the caveat was that the Yanks had

That is idiotic. This isn't the NBA or NFL. There is no cap. You don't give up an asset just to get rid of a contract. Not when your the Yankees. We'll shed plenty of $ in the next few years. No need to bleed the roster dry. No way we are becoming the Atlanta Braves.

Stu, I don't know what team you've been paying attention to lately but, it's quite evident they're not being run like George ran them back in the day. The, "They're the Yankees, they'll just outspend everyone." mantra is no more.

Yes, there is no cap but, what's idiotic is continuing to think they will operate the same way they did in the 90's and 00's when it's crystal clear the FO has said the exact opposite from the owners on down.

Now, that may change once the albatross contracts have finally met their end but, Ellsbury's doesn't until 2021. If they can get that contract off their roster by giving up Eovaldi and getting talent that can help in return, then they should.

Also, just to add, trading Eovaldi is hardly 'bleeding the roster dry' as you put it.
Get rid of one albatross contract
xman : 5/31/2016 6:18 am : link
and lokely replace it with another bad deal. Most of these contracts are piss poor
This offense
Mike Graves : 5/31/2016 6:24 am : link
Continues to be a problem, Nova only gave up 4 runs, you will take that every time especially against a offense like Toronto, same thing happen last week, Bret Gardner is a disaster, he is now batting .217 it seems the entire line up is in a funk again it's a shame how this great bullpen is going to be wasted.
Why would the Cubs
RetroJint : 5/31/2016 6:49 am : link
be interested in taking on a bad contract(Ellsbury) or trade for Eovaldi when their starters have the lowest ERA in baseball? Hammels tweaked a hamstring, but they have Warren in reserve. He's just as good as Eovaldi.

Depressing game last night. Helpless against a good pitcher. There is no end in sight for their offensive woes. Still, hanging around 500 is pretty good for this team. CC's metamorphosis is inspirational. Tanaka is proving he can get outs in a manner that can have him avoid the TJ. Eovaldi looks good. However, the action he is getting on his slider makes me suspicious that his elbow might blow.

Warren is as good as Eovaldi? Warren is a good #5 at best a #4. Consistent but non overpowering pitcher.
Eovaldi is at worst a solid #3. He is improving and has #1 potential. Once his ERA drops as it is doing already and he lowers his pitch count a bit, he's a #1.

Wait, so getting rid of Ellsbury and his terrible contract is idiotic? Haha, well alrighty then. You do realize that the Yanks will not be spending money until all of these excessive contracts are off the books, right? The only idiotic thing in this scenario is paying Ellsbury $25 million per year until 2021. THAT'S idiotic. And while there may not be a supposed cap, there are things in place that make it almost impossible for teams to spend excessively. And the Yankees have shown recently that they're not willing to add to payroll right now.
Ellsbury has a full no trade
arniefez : 5/31/2016 10:02 am : link
maybe he would waive it for the Cubs. His contract really isn't a big deal at this point because of all the money coming off the next two years. After 2018 Tanaka, Ellsbury and Castro are the only contracts on the books.

Eovaldi is a good pitcher on the verge of being a very good pitcher. If the Yankees trade him they better get back a group of players that make it worth it.

I think that this is EXACTLY what the Cubs see.

Remember that their pitching coach, Bosio, has been VERY successful in getting guys with high end stuff to harness their potential. His work with Arietta is case point #1.

IMO, if the Cubs are after one of your SP, you better believe that the guy is on the verge of something big.

I hope that the Yanks do not trade Eovaldi- I think of all the SP they have, he is the ONLY one I would even consider giving an extension to (remember that he is a FA after the 2017 season).

In fact, I would rather see if they can pawn Pineda off on the Cubs. The guy's head just isn't in the right place and its doesn't seem like the Yanks are able to get through to him. Better off cutting bait and getting something in return rather than just go through the motions for the next year and a half.

Remember that Tanaka has an opt-out clause after the 2017 season. He has been VERY good, when healthy. However, he still struggles with his insistence on throwing the high FB to ML hitters- who don't miss that pitch- which in turn leads to a lot of HR.

Is he worth giving $22M+ per to keep in NY? I don't know the answer at this point, but at the end of the 2017, I wonder if the Yanks might conclude that it might be better to let him go? Or, if the Yanks go into youth rebuild mode (which is the current plan), would he want to stick around for what might be a tough couple of years?
Tanaka has been very good lately
arniefez : 5/31/2016 10:45 am : link
but if he opts out I hope they let him leave. I don't trust his longevity at all with his arm problems.
