Will delete if German, but this is interesting. The Knicks don't have anywhere near enough cap space to get both, even if Afflalo opts out, right? Link - ( New Window )
I think he sticks to the plan and does not panic and offer max money to someone like Rondo or Batum.
I think Phil has likely realized he is not going to be able to build a team around Melo because of his age and is waiting for the right time to trade him. (i.e. waiting for Melo to realize that a trade is best for all parties)
this will be a fairly quiet offseason, which will piss off fans and media but is probably for the best. They'll try to re-sign two of Lance, Langston and DWill, nab a second rounder, and work Wroten and Willy in. As far as free agency goes, they'll make their offers to some young wings and hope for the best. I don't think will give Conley, Rondo or Lin much of a look.
They still will have close to max money to offer next year as well, them signing a guy to a max contract does not stop them from signing a max guy next year...

That is with Melo on the team
Anyone you spend a max on this year is less money to spend in a better market with better players next year. I'm not giving Batum a max just to get a player in the door. Spend money wisely.

I agree with that point I'm just saying if the knicks give out long term deals to 2 or 3 players that is not going to stop them from getting a max next year, that was my point..
Someone said short term contracts to preserve next yeat, Knicks don't have to do that
KD's probably going back to OKC on a Lebron-type deal. Not much after that. I wouldn't mind making a competitive offer for RFAs like Fournier or Crabbe just to see if you could steal them, but that's about it. If there's big news coming this summer, I'm guessing it's either a Melo or RoLo trade.
will look to keep around $8M in cap space this year. That space, plus 7.5M coming off from Calderon, plus an expected jump of around $15M would give them a good chance to make a splash in a better FA market.
supposedly already told Charlotte that if they make him a competitive offer he'd prefer to stay there vs. chase more money. He's not coming to the Knicks unless a) Charlotte does something very odd b) The Knicks severely overpay and he changes his mind. Doesn't sound like a guy obsessed with leaving for the "high bidder".
or Lin on short years wouldn't surprise me. Rondo is probably "better" but also likely less moldable and is a turdball off the court. Lin might be a guy that both improves the team, doesn't break the bank and fits what Phil/Hornacek want. Wouldn't shock me at all.
on maxing Batum. I still would do that, but I think trying to get Fournier for around 18M a year would be a damn good decision. He's 23, a taller guy at the 2 (6'-7") and he's near elite from 3 above the break. His defense could be better, but hopefully that's something that he can improve upon.

Agree, though remember that max this season is like 20-25% less than max next season. It's not a 1:1 comparison therefore.
"Batum's agent had previously indicated that his client, a free agent who just had a terrific first season with the Charlotte Hornets, would be in the United States resolving his NBA future and that the paperwork would not be finalized in time for him to play.
However, it is understood that the French player and the Hornets will quickly agree terms on a new deal and that could could give France enough time to obtain insurance for Batum and allow him to take part in some of the OQT games.
Although the situation has been complicated, Batum is such a talent that France are doing everything they can to have him at the OQT, where they will take on the Philippines and New Zealand in Group B and then potentially face Canada, Senegal or Turkey in the knockout stages. Batum did not make the All-Star Five of EuroBasket 2015 but he did achieve that feat the year before at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain." Link - ( New Window )
quick question since you are the "authority" on most NBA metrics for BBI... so WS/48 basically SHITS on Rondo. Basically suggesting Rondo hasn't been a big time player since 2009-2010. My question is this are there "usage" issues with a player like Rondo who handles the ball so much etc. Is he somehow unfairly dinged? I say this as someone who has close to zero interest in Rondo. But would it be safe to say Jeremy Lin and Rajon Rondo are roughly equal players?
just DeRozan may get a max offer from the Sixers and he has a previous relationship with Colangelo that "could" entice him.
If a bunch of free agents planned on making a "coup" like how lebron and bosh did when they went to Miami, Philadelphia is the most flexible place to do so.
Is that a newsday knockoff?

Now here's KP shooting 3's in a Greece streetball game with shades on.

Unless you are getting Durant those 3 fit the bill...
I am OK going with grant and wrote if you get 1 of those guys

Just an awful year to do it.
I heard they may trade one of Okafor or Embiid.

I thought it was Okafor or noel?
In any event they could have had their point guard rather than looking to trade one of their bigs...
They could have a core of noel Embiid mudiay right now and then add in Simmons or Ingram and you got the potential for a pretty good young team

Draft Simmons/Ingram
Offer max to Conley and Derozan
Trade Okafor and Landry for Melo
Lineup:
Conley
Derozan/Stauskas
Melo/Convington
Simmons/Grant
Noel/Embiid
They'd also have like $20M to blow next year. I'm not sure that's immediately better than Cleveland but that has potential.
