EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Andre Williams has posted some impressive numbers this offseason. He lost 12 pounds of fat and reduced his waist from 36 to 31½ inches. “It was drastic,” Williams said of his body changes. The Giants’ third-year running back hopes the reduction in those numbers leads to an increase in others, most notably his rushing total, which dropped precipitously when he was an NFL sophomore in 2015. The early returns are favorable as the Giants prepare for their final two weeks of their offseason program, including a minicamp that begins on June 14... |
That said, I don't see how a few days of practicing in t-shirts will fix his inability to find holes, rather than run straight into the backs of his blockers
but seriously come on why wouldnt he come into OTAs/Camp this in shape last year?
Do we really want to give all these touches?
Or that he is absolutely ripped now.
I don't think we'll see shit out of him. He's the knid of back that needs 20+ carries. Bringing him in occasionally for a few carries a game prevents him from getting in sync with the blockers and also telegraphs "running play" when he's in the backfield.
He'd be solid if he is a workhorse, IMO.
If he weighed 230 and was that ripped, you'd have to figure he'd be around 10-12% bodyfat. That would imply he only had 23 lbs of fat to start with at that already low percentage - is it humanly possible for him to lose another 12?!

Those arencrazy numbers, jcn. 10% is healthy and ripped on a man. Pro bodybuilders will routinely drop down to 4-5% on contest day and that's NOT healthy to maintain.
If Williams is at 5-6% he will burn out quickly. I have to believe The Giants conditioning staff will monitor him.
At any rate - the major point here is the guy made a concerted effort to lose weight, and I'm sure that was based on direction he was given by the team.
Actually, it's the 34" waist you have to watch out for.
To get to a 31" I would have to remove my entire hip and leg bone structure and replace them with someone elses.
and that is at 6'. 195 last time I checked.
One bad year? He made some nice plays his rookie year but overall he was very average. Last season he was awful.
I'm not totally down on him but his problem isn't his weight or his shoulder, its between the ears. I hope he figures it out because he is the kind of guy that can make defenses want to give up.
By all accounts he is a really good guy, rooting for him to make it, although my expectations are not very high.
There are Plenty of example of other players whose presence on the field seemed to be more of a result of performing an assigned task as directed more so than for their ability to be productive at "playing football". Marcus Kuhn comes to mind
We wanted another Bradshaw and that's not him, but with a good OL that can create holes he can def go forward fast and carry guys a yard or two.
His problems, even when in school, have been consistent:
1. Horrible balance.
2. Poor vision.
3. The instinct to not run through contact, except on dive plays.
He'll likely be a little quicker, but the kid always has been a beast! That's not his problem.

Maybe he used to have fat eyelids.
Sometimes wideouts take awhile, but Tiki was an anomaly. Sadly, you usually know what you've got in a RB pretty quickly.
I dont care if this guy loses weight and has muscles on top of muscles. What I have seen in 2 years from him is a lack of natural instinct running the ball, following blockers, running to daylight. He's never going to outrun defenders or shake them out of their shoes, so i dont see how this weight loss is going to help him. He's no Brandon Jacobs, but that is the type of back that he is. North-south runner, hit the hole, and hit someone on the way.
Then you probably need a bench warmer for when the injury bug bites.
And Dayne was 250 lbs., thanks to him, Tiki became a full time
starter here. I don't care how much weight Williams has lost,
or how much body fat he has, all that matters is what he does
on Sundays. I am not holding my breath.
