That didn't make it last year are easy to pick. Look at the teams that didn't make it, find the ones with franchise QBs. Pick them. Pretty safe bet especially if that team has had a good off season picking up FAs and getting some help in the draft. Voila! The Giants.
But I think the Giants last year, as flawed a team as can be especially on the defensive side of the ball, could have won the division if not for bad coaching and this is coming from a big Tom Coughlin fan. Next year, with big upgrades on the defense and what looks like another good draft, if the injury bug reverts to the mean, there is no reason they can't win the division much less make the playoffs. And, with Eli in the playoffs doing his magic, I think the sky is the limit.
The quality of the right side is suspect to begin with, even if someone surprises and rises from scrub to starter, there is virtually NO quality depth.
5 bodies on the OL. MOST seasons, at least one goes down for a stretch.
I'm not saying I can't live with Jerry/Newhouse - I'm saying the Giants are 1 injury away from Eli running for his life.
I'm actually quite satisfied with the rest of the changes and update. The team looks pretty solid heading into summer.
And Casserly did a good job in seeing returning players as a plus
Most guys will overlook guys you've got that were out injured. The return of JPP, Hankins and Kennard by themselves would be a significant upgrade. Add Vernon, Harrison, Jenkins and you have a whole new defense.
You have to Like what we have done so far ..
Agree that Oliver is a Big Key I could see double digit sacks from him and JPP and a Big Reason for that is the addition of Harrison and the return of Big Hank I feel better about the Linebackers as well .
I don't think were done rounding out the roster but getting a couple of guys for added depth or someone Like Loadholt
to compete for a starting gig .
I Like McAdoo and the fact that he learned under a Great coach can't hurt .
Major Tom for all his faults brought class and focus to this team .
Playoffs with that right side of o line. Especially considering injuries on the line will occur as there were two season Enders alone last year. Get some more beef on the right and we contend for a sb.
The starters are more than capable of making the playoffs....however, there is absolutely no depth on this team....key players go down, and this team is in trouble...
The one saving grace is the fact that the NfC East, is there for the taking...there is no one team head and shoulders above the other.....if Romo goes down....if Cousins reverts back to form.....If the Eagles can't get their shit together.....it's there.....you win the division, and you are in the playoffs......
Saying the Giants can make the playoffs, is nothing earth shattering....
Casserly didnt even mention Shepard, who will help this offense immensely. There were plenty of times last year where the offense simply needed to gain one more first down to ice a game, and couldnt do it. Shepard + all of the defensive additions + easier schedule, and if we get even the slightest break on injuries, this team is in the playoffs.

thats cause they can't run cause right side of o line is worst in football. Last year they had multiple o line injuries. This year if they do who is the back up.

That's obviously a team with issues, but it's also a team that's close. They've done what they could with bringing in new talent. Now we just gotta hope for some luck on the injury front. If they stay reasonably healthy and the D is even middle of the road this team can win 10 games.
We still have plenty of cap room to sign a quality tackle or guard. I don't get why we haven't done so when this is clearly the main obstacle the team has in order to take that next step.

Which quality tackle or guard would you like the Giants to sign now? Louis Vasquez? How much would you pay for a marginal improvement over John Jerry? Jahri Evans? 33 and banged up. What's he worth to you? Is there anyone else I haven't mentioned that appeals to you?

boom nail on the head. I think with a one more quality o line men this team is a serious contender.

Play the games!
I agree with this.
