Eli getting some respect........

Simms11 : 6/8/2016 8:34 pm
unbelievable! Eli was rated #47 of the top 100 NFL players, by NFL players.....NFL Network airs this for those that have never seen it. They review each player and the Eli review was great....most players referred to him as having Eli Manning face, never changes in any situation.....win, lose, TD, etc. Anyway they respected him as a smart competitor.
Not surprised
mrvax : 6/8/2016 8:37 pm : link
when the poll was gathered from other players. Eli is a very very good QB. And durable as hell.

Curious how Romo fared...

I kinda feel that this top 100 list
eclipz928 : 6/8/2016 8:44 pm : link
doesn't have very much credibility to it, specifically because it's rankings given by the players. Most of these guys are playing on Sundays during the season - when would they have ever had the time to evaluate all of these players on different NFL teams unless it was one of the opponents they played against?

On the one hand it's nice that Eli finally makes the list
USAF NYG Fan : 6/8/2016 9:17 pm : link
after being snubbed so many times. On the other hand Rivers gets picked at #46 (1 spot better than Eli) and you're reminded that's it's just another popularity contest.
Andrew luck will make a lot of people look very dumb
djm : 6/8/2016 10:11 pm : link
Before all is said n done. He will save the colts and they are pretty much a mess with the owner. I've heard a lot of people downplaying luck and that's being kind. Some are really killing Luck harping on the high int totals. Make no mostske luck is a beast. He will right the ship. Ranking him in the mediocre tier is crazy.
I feel like Eli's iron man streak is what will eventually
Ben in Tampa : 6/8/2016 10:14 pm : link
Get him the respect he's due. He's an elite, albeit streaky, player so he's often slighted in these types of things. When you start to factor in his longevity, it adds a layer that an incredibly small percentage of players can make a claim too. The respect factor goes up.

Also, don't forget the Top 100 Player list is bullshit.

They don't, which is why the list can be so all over the place and doesn't hold much to any weight.

In all honesty, Eli probably largely made the list this year, after his previous misses, because of how much coverage the Giants' defense got for being so god awful. Players are going to feel you a lot more when they turn on ESPN or check Twitter and see you throwing 6 TDs/0 INTs and losing or leading your team back against the best team in football only for your defense to collapse yet again in the final two minutes; they aren't when the highlights pushed are mostly of you throwing picks or fucking up in some way.

It's based on last year. Barnidge had a much better season.

I'm sure Eli will be able to sleep at night now knowing that some of the players around the league think he belongs on this list. Hehe.

The streak of games played, and especially the specific games he's played through at a remarkably poised level and triumphed in, are the main reasons he SHOULD BE high on the list.
WR Terrance Williams of the Cowboys speaking highly of Eli...

Lobbying for FA pickup consideration in 2017? Size and production wise he's like a Randle clone. Have no idea about his work ethic etc. With last year's disaster for Romo, his stats line wasn't anything special...

This list is basically rating players on how they did LAST YEAR
ZogZerg : 6/9/2016 7:05 am : link
Not how they expect players to do this year. It's just a filler until training camp roles around.

But I bet the last line of it surprised a lot of non-Giants fans.

Eli is ALREADY in the TOP 10 of all time in completions, TDs and comebacks. By the time he hangs it up, he could be in the top 5. Add this to the two SB MVPs, and the guy who never gets any respect is already a HOF LOCK. The most the haters can do is keep him off the first ballot.
comebacks
ANGPASS : 6/9/2016 9:52 am : link
is a nice clutch stat. But everyone will say his stats are inflated due to new rules. But noone says that about ben, brady, brees or anyone currently playing.

Rules can't change/challenge comeback stats. You either lead your team down for points, or you don't.

I love that Eli broke the 4th quarter TD record back in 2011, throwing 14, which had been a tie between Johnny Unitas and Peyton forever.

These rankings
PaulBlakeTSU : 6/9/2016 11:08 am : link
are awful. Not only is the way the rankings are curated terribly done, but the voters and the show contradict itself at every turn.

The list is called the TOp 100 PLayers for 2016-- for the upcoming season. Yet all the people talk about is how well they did in 2015-- and not as a trajectory for how it'll translate next year.
Wow, way to take a left down Creepy St. Pat McAfee...

Top 100 Among All Current NFL Players?
OntheRoad : 6/9/2016 11:31 am : link
When Eli retires, he's likely to be Top 5 All Time among NFL quarterbacks in TDs and yards.
Should be higher

In all seriousness I have to assume the majority of players consider him one of the QB's who you're not wanting to face in any game. They all must know that if his o-line blocks, their team likely has to score 3+ td's to have a chance of winning and they better make it two scores or more before the Giants have the ball with under 3 minutes...
Next up...
