interesting that we were in on trade talks

wonder how much we're willing to spend
I guess my question is...
Josh in the City : 6/15/2016 3:37 pm : link
isn't anything better than nothing? If trade talks fell through then does that mean the Giants were not willing to give up anything for him? Because even a conditional 7th rounder would have been better than straight out releasing him, right?
Honestly
geemanfan : 6/15/2016 3:38 pm : link
How do trade talks fall apart? We offer a 7 and they say no we would rather release him and get nothing?

They may have asked for more. Still doesn't address why they'd release him for nothing

Exactly, if you want more and don't get it, isn't it better to accept something instead of simply releasing him for nothing? Only thing that makes sense is that the Giants pulled whatever they originally offered.

Maybe the Giants were only offering a bag of balls and an autographed helment

That's interesting. Giants probably were only willing to trade if they could agree on a restructured contract. Makes more sense now.

from there interest in some FA's now to interest in Monroe.

I'm glad to see the giants don't view Marshall Newhouse as a starter, because he isn't one. He is good depth.
Giants have alot more cap than Den or Sea.
OBJ31 : 6/15/2016 4:01 pm : link
File this away: per OTC, Denver has $4,627,546 in cap space; Seattle has $9,595,724. Giants have $18,238,767.
How is his health?
ChathamMark : 6/15/2016 4:01 pm : link
Missed 15 games the past two seasons.
I suppose we'll see.
Enoch : 6/15/2016 4:02 pm : link
Eugene clearly thinks that some other team will make a better offer than whatever price the Giants floated in the trade talks. Maybe so, maybe not.
Monroe is from Plainfield, which is basically on the West Coast...
Big Blue Blogger : 6/15/2016 4:02 pm : link
...of Arthur Kill/Newark Bay. So there's that.

Tough call here. Quality player when healthy, but has only played a full season once and has missed a ton of time the last two years. It really comes down to cost (especially guarantees) and fit - since he has primarily played left tackle.
I wouldn't have figured the Giants would take a chance on

As I said yesterday, he's not a guy who got busted for pot. He is trying to make a case to the NFL for allowing it to help with injuries. He's not being a troublemaker or rebellious, rather his approach seems quite mature and is being offered through the proper channels..I don't think this would be a problem for the Giants at all, imv

I think thats it. No harm in taking a look see. We could use the depth anyway.
