besides good health is:
Flowers and Collins to vastly improve
Cruz to play well
Good play out of TE and 3rd WR
The right side of the OL to play well
Get competent play from the LBs
Good play from whoever starts at FS
Real simple.
1) I'm always optimistic. I make a low $ bet on 16-0 every year. Every year I think it's the year. I'm pretty sure it'll happen this time.
2) the real reason is their offense last year was very good and their defense was awful. Their offense should get better with just a SS for Rueban swap. There are still issues with the O-line but they're the same as last year and they performed fine then.
Also, the D just needs to be Top 20 instead of dead last and they'll be 4 wins better. No one needs a reminder of how many close games we lost at the last minute. A border line mediocre D, and the GMen make the playoffs.
I think the D has potential to be top 15 with the FA changes.
Top 10 O and Top 15 D and a SB-winning Qb- I'll like those odds every day of the week.
Giants go 15-1, 14-2 scoring 44 points on the Eagles every week and actually beating mediocre teams like the Giants should? I cant believe the lacking of intelligence here. Records matter. Home field matters.
The first 2 Giant Super Bowl Winning teams went 14-2 and 13-3.
Parcells and Belichick, Phil Simms and historically great defenses.
I love Eli, love Beckham, like McAdoo's promotion, like the new talent they got in the offseason, but I aint calling no 12 wins. Not calling 11 wins. 10 would be great.
Of course you have to see how the flow of the games go. IF they win 10 and lose 2 games that they had in their hands, I will think they blew a great chance. But 10 wins would be an outstanding improvement They lost 2 games last season because of bone headed clock management, so, if you look at it that way, 10 games is really a 2 game improvement.
They can do that. If they go 6-10 again there will be big problems and people will lose their jobs.
Say we're going 14-2. Most people, like myself, think this team could go 10-6, 11-5 if things break right.
And he'll yes I'm optimistic. Life is too short to dwell on the negatives. This defense should be significantly better, our offense should be fine, and I like McAdoo.
They have to NOT lead the league in injuries again . None of these optimistic prediction factors in injury. There will obviously be injuries, but they can't be AS many as the last few years, OR KEY guys, OR at places where there is already little depth. i.e. they need some luck here. GOOD luck.
And the Defense has to rise from dead least to middle of the pack.
You get those things, you could be looking at a real nice season.
Are no 13-3 or 12-4 team, that is simply stupidity talking. To defend that though look around and tell me how many 13-3 teams are even around anymore. Those days of dominant teams are over, simple answer why, the salary cap has made it essential to play and develop players too quickly, I think this is why we are seeing all these injuries across the board.
This team is nothing close to a dominant team, but as some have said, to hope or expect improvement and a possible 9 or 10 win team is possible, and we already know that can lead to bigger things.
Adding free agent players and good rookies is one thing, but this team must become a team, this is not the Patriots or the Seahawks who have a winning core of players, proven winners on the field not from a fans big mouth or players big mouths.
Let's be realistic, but hopeful this season and maybe we will see a team start developing, because that is what we need to see, not great individual players, a great team effort and team results.

Well said sir and as '56 said, just get Eli into the damn playoffs.
9 wins would be good. 10 wins would be very good. Anything above that would be pretty amazing.
However:
On defense...
They upgraded the D-line;
They drafted two very promising DBs (Eli Apple & Darian Thompson), signed a vet in free agency (Janoris Jenkins) and have an surprising prospect behind them (Donte Deayon) ;
They moved to upgrade their linebackers (we'll see how that works out);
On offense...
They seem to be getting Victor Cruz back;
They added a very talented rookie WR in Sterling Shepard;
Geremy Davis appears to have taken that step forward that so few Giants prospects have taken in recent years. If so, that would give them three good receivers to add to OBJ and Dwayne Harris;
Ereck Flowers is healthy and has a year of experience;
There is still time to bolster O-line depth with veteran FAs and camp cuts.
Plus John Jerry yadda yadda yadda and Bobby Hart yadda yadda yadda and the O-line veterans they signed yadda yadda yadda.
I think having a rookie HC will hold them back a little. But to me, the Giants look to me like a team that's had a successful first offseason in a rebuild that will take two offseasons. Including, possibly, changing the DC after this year if Spags doesn't show big improvement. But they have a new HD, new coaching staff, significant turnover of players, an infusion of significant talent all over the roster, both new players and players returning from injury -- I wouldn't be surprised to see them start poorly but finish very strong.
Just what the hell do you know about it? What qualifies you as an expert? Truth is, nobody knows what's going to happen this year. Not even the so called experts.
This team has the look and feel of taking a big step up to...
Provided the Giants can stay relatively healthy. We've seen teams go from "worst to first" many times, and more often than not the determining factor is their ability to keep their best players on the field instead of on IR. For the past few years, the Giants have been plagued not only with an inordinate amount of injuries, but with "clusters" of injuries as well, affecting a number of positions. No team, no matter how "deep" their roster is, can overcome the loss of almost all of their talent at a single position, let alone several positions.
Often overlooked when discussing the Giants' free agent signings is that with the exception of Keenan Robinson, the UFAs they brought in have proven to be remarkably durable. This does not guarantee future durability of course - see Michael Boley and Chris Canty - but it's a better bet than gambling on an oft-injured player miraculously experiencing a reversal of fortune. I'll take that as a positive sign, and one more reason for optimism.
2 say, but 14-2 is still possible, is it not? So who, posting on BBI controls the future to an extent that it is not possible. There have been significant changes from last year. Whether they are positive or negative remains to be seen. TC-McAdoo, Shepard/Cruz-Randle, JPP-Injured JPP, Tye and TEs-really no one, untried safety-some seasoning and prospects, developing running backs-improved at end of season, supplemented by good draft, ineffective Dline-big free agent changes, injured linebackers-recovering supplemented by draft, Oline unsettled and injured-settled and working as a unit, vulnerable at corner-proven with new depth, all in all, it probably turns on leadership, injuries, and the intangible of a developing coherence and team spirit, as well as whether or not several individuals realize their potential. When I see 6-10 or 14-2, or 0-16, or 16-0, I think, rather 16-0, but let's just have an interesting season where the players are rewarded as they should be, and the team is competitive and effective. And please in this order, we go 2-0 against Dallas, Philly and at least 1-1 against Washington.
I would suggest there are some misguided skeptics as well
It does not take long to turn things around in this league, we see that play out every year. In fact, the teams that are set at QB rarely stay down for long. This team was already performing at a playoff caliber level on the offensive side of the ball, and has unquestionably increased the talent significantly on the defensive side. Transformations can happen quickly in this league, and teams with a QB in place rarely down for this long.
Is likely 9/10 wins. Don't forget how bad the last 2 rosters were. Let's have one more productive offseason in FA and the draft and perhaps we can think about 11/12 wins in 2017.
...because most preseason are worthy of unbridled optimism, this one certainly no exception.
If you can't enjoy this period, before the first snap of the year, if all you can manage is pessimism and misery
, you're wasting the NFL experience, IMO.
Right noe, the Giants are tied for first in the league as the best team in the NFL.
Or the worst.
I prefer the former.
Been around long enough to know , this Giant team feels and looks like a winner.
If people want to believe in June, let them believe.
I personally tend to be more realist, but there's nothing wrong with those who have hope and are optimistic -- misguidedly or guidedly -- at this point in the year.
All three components of the defense will be better
1) Eli Manning is capable of winning any game
2) A new Head Coach even though the OC before still brings a lot of unknowns and new stuff that opposing DCs will be unprepared for
3) Improvements on defense should be able to make some stops at the end of games ..
Pessimism comes from a lot of holes and question marks which may negate optimistic reasons 2 and 3 above ...
Flowers and Collins to vastly improve
Cruz to play well
Good play out of TE and 3rd WR
The right side of the OL to play well

Real simple.
On paper you add Vernon, Jenkins and Snacks to defense. ( we hope they have significant impact )
Assuming the defense is improved to middle of the pack, which i think is reasonable, you have to say giants should be 9-7 ish at minimum.
The real wild cards:
Injuries ? Does Mcadoo's staff help here ?
Mcadoo as HC ?
Cruz ?

I'd be happy with 10-6.

Though they might have a new HD, too, if Coughlin liked the old tube TV and didn't want to replace it.
He's right but the OP may have the dumbest football post in the history of BBI.
...8-8.
