Orleans Darkwa spent the spring on the shelf. It was far from ideal for a running back in a crowded Giants backfield who is set to face an intense battle for a spot on the roster. Darkwa was working out at the start of the Giants offseason program. Everything seemed fine. At the start of organized team activities (OTAs), the Giants shut him down with a small fracture in his leg. It was a problem that originated last season, but never fully healed. "I think it's something that lingered. I thought it was shin splints, so I played with it and didn't think much about it," Darkwa said. "They kind of got worse as the season went on." |
Darkwa was a bright spot last year.
Better receiving skills - his hands, up to this point, have been among the worst for an offensive player in the 40+ years I have been watching this team.
More elusiveness, rather than just a battering ram.
If he can't do all 3, then I believe Darkwa is on the team.
An inmate in prison begs one of the guards for a cigarette, and the guard responds: "what brand do you smoke, Micky?"
Micky says "I don't give a rat's ass, I'll smoke whatever ya got."
Guard: "well Micky all I've got right now is 'The Three Nuns'."
"3 Nun's? That's a queer brand."
"The Three Nuns: None yesterday, none today, and none tomorrow."
(and while he may not dominate in the nfl like he did in the ncaa, with better OL play I think we will see better production from him)
Darkwa is competing against Vereen & Perkins; don't think he'll beat either out.
I don't really care either way, may the best player win the battle.
But what a difference in a life.
I'd say his chances are between slim and none.
Perkins, Jennings and Vereen are definitely in -- that leaves Williams, Rainey, Coprich and Darkwa to duke it out - and the coaching staff has been saying good things about Rainey and Williams -- I just don't see how Darkwa gets in
This sounds right on. So unlikely he makes it, and even if he does he provides little to nothing for our offense...
I dont want to hear about Williams losing weight, putting on muscle. The Giants have suffered this 4th round mistake for 2 years. Time to move on.
Maybe, in the NFL, he's tried to be something he's not.
With the Giants he's trying to run over defenders at the L.O.S. (like he didn't in college). Look at this video - he can juke, cut, and run fast; with a running start he can run over any NFL safety (but not NFL linemen & linebackers)

He needs to remember his college style, or he's done.
I guess Williams is going to stick around. So let's see who stays healthy out of camp. I don't want to jinx Rashad. I like Rainey over Coprich. I don't see any way Perkins isn't on the roster.
Biggest surprise would be if they cut Williams. But I'm surprised a lot.
I agree. He had one good game. One good quarter in that game. And a lot of people want to crown him our best back. He was exciting for those few carries. He then wasn't exciting the next week. Ultimately he's too fragile and unproven to take it away from Williams, a guy who has lead the team in rushing yards.
I like Darkwa, but he's made of glass and isn't a sure anything.

Not seeing much "juke, cut" on that video, so not sure what you are seeing. He mostly runs straight ahead and runs people over. In fact, I found these highlights lumbering.
On a different thread I pooh-poohed Darkwas's STs prowess but after listening to Feagles speak about him yesterday my bad. I bet Feagles knows more about the Giants' STs players than anyone aside Quinn and Jeff confirmed Darkwa is top notch on STs.
Apology to whomever I doubted on the other thread.
