Just found out that a long time family friend, Wayne Jackson, died this night. Wayne was the trumpet player in the Memphis Horns, the horn section that backed up every major artist on the Stax label and many more, as well. He played on over 50 gold records, Wayne and his partner, Andrew Love, were as much responsible for the Memphis sound as anyone. He was a great talent and could play any style of music and make it sound beautiful.
I've known him for as long as I've been married to my wife, longer really. And my wife knew him going back even farther, back to when she and her first husband were living and recording in Muscle Shoals in the early 1970s. He was godfather to our oldest son. We last saw him several months ago and although he wasn't doing well, we never thought we wouldn't see him again; he always loved life too much. Damn. Sorry to vent but this hurts. RIP little big man.

Between yesterday and today, I feel a lot older. But it won't be hard to remember him. He's still on half the songs most radio stations play.
Sorry for your loss.
