goes down as one of the greatest games I ever watched. Five FGs, a late turnover and a game winning FG, preventing the "three peat". Leonard Marshall crushing Joe Montana, his tenacity to get there, symbolized the game. And Pat Summerall's call after Montana was knocked out- "the report from the bench is it hurts EVERYWHERE"- was outstanding.
This was one of the few times there was only one week between the championship game and the Super Bowl. Parcells told the players they can pack for one game or two- "and I know what I am packing for".
Not saying the Super Bowl was not memorable, but the Championship game was every bit as intense.

I agree with this, beating SF in SF. What a game, and one that we weren't really given much of a chance to win. We hung in there with a great defense and a backup QB.
Though that wasn't 1990..still a great memory in snow and BH's ear pad flying
1989 . . oh yeah, we won the SB in 1991. I carried the wrong year over. Whoops.
To redeem myself, I will just say that the Bears playoff game shouldn't be overlooked. That's where Hoss really started to get his groove, and the Giants really closed the door on the Bears of that era.

Yes it was a blowout. Total dominance. That said, the major memory of that game was Pepper's helmit flying off after a goal line hit..:)
Vs eagles. Since i started really getting i to football in '88 it was the 1st win over them. Always will be my most hated team, because of those late 80's teams. LT with 2 sacks, megget with a punt return for a td.

Yes Yes and yes. This game was incredible.. it made it more special for me that right before the fake punt, a dallas fan sitting beside me was saying "you are going to lose, giants suck they are way too conservative to beat the niners" ... this was MOMENTs before the fake punt... and a moment i will never forget.
All week long leading up to the NFCC game, I was peppered by a co-worker with, "You can't beat Montana in San Francisco. You can't beat Montana in San Francisco. You can't beat Montana in San Francisco." Over and over again, for the entire week.
Monday, he called in sick. I left a bottle of aspirin on his desk, with a note saying he should share some of it with Montana.
It is simply the greatest football game I've ever seen.
Still want to punch Carthon in the nuts for dropping that touchdown tho'.
Or Collins trying for the INT on Taylor and falling down allowing JT to take it all the way..He was aggressive though
I think that was Everson Walls on that play. But Collins deserves a razz for failing to get the fumble after the Marshall hit on Montana. ;-)
That game was the most intense game I've ever seen. Great plays on both sides, tremendous missed opportunities on both sides. The Niners had basically owned the Giants since 1986, so to finally break through in that game was an exhilarating moment.
It wasn't a great game at all, but I have vivid memories of the last regular season game vs. the Pats. It was an ugly contest that Hoss basically won with his legs. Randy Cross was commentating and smugly blasting the Giants every chance he could get, claiming they didn't have "the look" of a champion. I remember saying to myself, "Just wait you bastard, they're gonna figure this out." And then they did.

Philly win at home
Cardinals comeback
Whipping the Rams in LA
Both Redskins games (Stephen baker and walls to the house with huge plays)
Shutting Dan Marino down at home
ALL the playoff games; NFC championship game was even better than a terrific super bowl
Three of the worst losses in my viewing the Giants as well: losing at philly hurt. But the 9ers and Bills losses really stung that year for me. Might have been my age. Not even losing SB 35 hurt like that for some reason......

Rams game was a good one. I remember being nervous going into it because the Rams always seemed to have the Giants number (playoff loss the year before too) and the Giants kicked there ass.
The Eagles game mentioned earlier too. I have lived amongst Eagle fans since they appeared in 1988 in the 6th grade. Even wt a young age they are jackasses.
payback for the Flipper Anderson OT loss in 1989 playoffs.
The Giants physically beat the living shit out of that team like I've rarely ever seen. You could hear the pads popping, especially in the 4th qtr when the building started to empty out.

LT w/3 sacks that game after holding out of training camp.
It is simply the greatest football game I've ever seen.
I agree.
P.S. Eff you Mo Carthon for dropping that option pass from Meggett for an easy TD!!
Brings back the painful memory of the Del Shofner, wide open TD drop in the '63 title game against the Bears..It would have been us ahead 14-0 iirc and a definite momentum shift which most likely would have secured the title for us imv. We lost 14-10..
Four of the most painful Giants regular season losses I can remember happened in 1988. Home vs the 9ers, which is the most painful, getting whacked by the Rams, the painful overtime loss to the eagles and finally, after all that, losing to the freaking jets the final week.
There were a lot of painful losses this season though this team was not anywhere the caliber of the 88 team. The only other ones that hurt like that year were the 85 game at Dallas, the 2001 loss at the Rams, and the 2010 loss to the eagles and the packers in consecutive weeks.
In 1988, one of those losses turns the other way that team may have won a superbowl.

Yeah, that Jets' loss was particularly brutal..It was struggle the entire game but we finally took the lead near the end, only to have the victory snatched from us in the waning moments

I was at that game with a couple Jets fans, it was brutal. Fucking Al Toon
SB. I did not think they were going to win that game following the SF game. Also, I strongly disliked the Bills after having lived in Buffalo from August '88 to May '90.
Cardinals comeback late win on fg
Washington game (home) E Walls pick 6..absolute bedlam at stadium
Though that wasn't 1990..still a great memory in snow and BH's ear pad flying

The NFCC game against San Francisco. As edge-of-your-seat exciting a game as I can remember.

Probably the quintessential example of old school Giants football...defense, ball control, no mistakes
