a scenic train ride is spectacular, as is a boat tour into the glacier bays.

Where is your base of operations?

Alaska is huge and knowing where you'll be has a bearing on what you can expect to do. Fairbanks to me was a big zero. Couldn't wait to get out of there. Denali is awesome. Hope you get to see the mountain. It's shrouded in clouds and mist most of the time, unless you can get close enough on your ATV tour. I expect you will.

If you're in Anchorage, go to Chilcoot Charlie's if it's still open. One of the great bars in America. I heard they sold it, but maybe there's new ownership. Also, Portage glacier is a worthwhile day trip. If you go, bring a container of some kind and grab a little ice from the glacier. Get clear and white pieces. Take it with you and use it in your drink. The ice is so dense, it lasts for a long time in your drink. The white ice releases compressed air into what ever you pour over it, turning scotch into scotch and soda. You can have 12 year old scotch over 12,000 year old ice.

Unless you're with the wife, The Great Alaska Bush Company is the best strip joint I've ever been to. It's like an old style Western Saloon with some of the best looking women I've ever seen. The girls are all from California and they go up there for the summer. At least, that was the deal when I was there years back.

If you get a chance to get down to Valdez, it's pretty beautiful. It's where the pipeline ends and and is the Northern terminus of the ferry that goes down through the islands. Hell of a hike to get to though. Good luck. You'll love your trip.
Thx everyone

No advice, sounds awesome

one of the places I'd like to visit.

one question based on my ocean experience...

5 hours on a jet-ski? that sounds like a loooooong time on a jet-ski.

but like I said my experience is mostly ocean and the waves kill you, maybe the bay you'll be in is calm and just more fun, but in either case seems like a couple hour thing more than a 5-hours thing unless you are going from point a to point b and that's how long it takes and you have frequent sight-seeing spots along the way.

It's a tour on the bay. Thx
RE: I've Heard ... a boat tour into the glacier bays.

I thought that was on your list, but I see it isn't. We did that out of Whittier. Day trip from Anchorage. Very scenic drive there. Cool joint train / car tunnel to get to Whittier. We were lucky to have a clear day. Great views from the boat.

The zoo in Anchorage was nice if you have kids with you.

Earl you are going to love Alaska. I have visited this wonderful state 5 times. Two with the wife where we cruised as well as explored and did activities(ATV, white water rafting, whale watching, walking on top glaciers) in Anchorage, Denali and Fairbanks. I also have done 3 fishing trips to Kodiak Island and Raspberry Island. The fishing was just phenomenal for sockeye and coho salmon, halibut (up to 215 lbs caught), as well as rock fish and cod. All three trips came home with 150 lbs of fillets. Just the sights alone (killer whales, humpacks, sea lions, and kodiak brown bears) while fishing was mind-blowing. So if you are into fishing I would def recommend doing a salmon trip.
Enjoy yourself, stay safe and take in the pure wilderness and sheer beauty it has to offer. Enjoy
