I'm disappointed. The show was up and down, but I still thought it had a lot of promise. Bobby Cannavale is a great actor though he seemed to lack any redeeming qualities. He was worse than Don Draper, with fewer Don Draper light bulb moments.
I thought with some better organization, season 2 could have been much better, similar with the way The Leftovers turned into one of the best shows on television.

Deadwood was a major disappointment. I've heard rumors of a movie.
Also....G.O.T.
I'm guessing for Westworld, and hopefully for a bigger GOT budget.
True. But they did film a full length movie, so at least there was some closure to the story...

Too bad it never got a second season.

Wait...That actually happened? I had heard Merchant say they were thinking about doing a final episode to bring closure to the series but, that's it.
Wonderful news! Now I something to re-binge watch!

Yeah, I think it came out last year sometime. It was good. I won't spoil it for you, but it was a nice tie up...
Showtime, on the other hand, can't seem to do anything wrong.
Season 2 was better and that's saying a lot. New place, new characters, bombshell plots... definitely watch it.
You haven't watched HBO shows in years but know this was a bad move.
Can't see how it'll be missed. Take its bloated budget and get me a season of Deadwood. Maybe Milch can get his shit together instead of focusing on another John from Cincinnati.
One of my favorite flicks of the last few years
You really can't start a show with the main character in a downward spiral. We have to at least have some time to find out who they are before they hit the floor, otherwise who cares.
There was a lot of stuff in this show that just didn't belong. Starting out with a murder was a huge mistake. I think Winter only knows how to make one kind of show.
When the show was at its best, it was about about the music and then it was pretty good. Here is the best scene from its short run. Watch it now and imagine what the show could have been.

Season 2 was one of the best seasons of any television show I've seen. It was an emotional adventure. Great characters, and perfect use of music.
yup. HBO crushing it. Girls as well was really good last season. no judgements

After season 1. So I should give season 2 a shot?

Agree. I liked season 1 quite a bit, but season 2 was just WOW. Not a ratings giant, but basically achieved cult status overnight.
it is so funny how they were trying to do Mad Men but with Record Business
but in Mad Men you had unlikable characters like Pete but he was written as a complex character that you could not help but root for him to change and grow.
but in Vinyl the unlikable characters you just wanted to punch in the face.
also Mad Men was able to weave real events and people into the story in great way which made you feel the characters were living during the times but Vinyl's attempt at doing this very thing was ham fisted and dumb.
When Richie is sitting at the 'bar' at the end of the series and the owner comes up and asked him if the name CBGB's was a good one -- i wanted a throw a chair at my TV. There is NO WAY any music executive would be in CBGB's at the beginning .. it was just an empty bar with a handful of Hell's Angels before Television walked into CBs and asked if they could play
By the time a music executive walked into CBGBS the scene was fully formed and well known by downtown press.
just lazy cynical writing

Leftovers Season 2 is one of my favorite seasons of TV ever. Can't recommend it enough.

I really wanted to like Vinyl, but ultimately didn't. save a couple of episodes. not surprised there is no season 2.
I remember after I read the book "unbreakable" that ultimately became a movie, I thought HBO could make an awesome miniseries with that story. 2 hours isn't nearly long enough to tell that whole story.
I also think they could do something like that with "boys in the boat" about the US rowing team in the '36 berlin Olympics.
Veep and silicon valley are both very good. Girls I like, but that Dunam chick is just so unattractive and annoying sometimes...we all know how they ruined True detective. although season 1 was a tough act to follow.
I'm interested to watch that new one they are pimping - The night Of.

move. I stopped watching their stuff years ago when they canceled Deadwood and Carnivale right in the middle. HBO can not be trusted to see a series through to a conclusion.

I simply said it was typical, you can be the judge of if it was a bad move or not!
Yes. I actually loved Season 1.. the general consensus seems to be that Season 1 was decent but Season 2 was outstanding.
Season 2 was outstanding, though. I just happened to really like both seasons. Definitely did think S2 was better. If you've already watched S1 you're doing yourself a major disservice not watching S2. One of my favorite shows ever at this point.
The last two or three episodes of season 1 turned the series around and ended it on a terrific note that left me excited for season 2. And then season 2 was a masterclass.
Granted, I have not started the Leftovers yet, but with all of the positive commentary, I'm looking forward to getting into a new show.
But too me, Silicon Valley doesn't do it for me. I did watch the first season, and I found every character to be highly irritating. Veep is good, but for some reason, it just doesn't keep my attention. And with Vinyl, and not sticking with Boardwalk, the 2nd season of True Detective, HBO cancelling the Brink(which I really enjoyed), I just haven't loved all of their decisions.
That said, I'm really just venting a bit, and am really looking forward to Ballers and Vice Principles, as well as others.
