NFT: Outdoor patio cushion fabric question

bigblue1124 : 6/23/2016 6:40 am
We are looking to replace all of our cushions for our patio seating set. I was hoping for some feedback in regards to the Sunbrella fabric cushions versus the standard blend style.

Is the Sunbrella fabric and additional cost worth it? Does this product last that much longer than the other products out there in regards to mildew and fading?

Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.
If you plan on leaving them outside

In particular with exposure to the sun, when not in use - yes. They'll easily outlast the alternative and usually by quite a bit.

You can get by with the others if they're in a covered location, put away while not in use, etc.
I have found that the

eff'ing nesting squirrels in my yard are much more destructive than the sun could ever be. I've tried cayenne pepper, chili pepper and all sorts of other things...nothing works. They tear up the cushions every spring.

try a pellet gun. Works great.
I had the same issue with squirrels

and deer eating all of my plants. I took habanero and ghost peppers and boiled them in water cooled it and put the water and more fresh chilies in a spray bottle and treated all my plants and patio furniture.

They learned pretty fast after that.

It's not maintenance...

....free stuff. It still needs to be cleaned once or twice a year, acute issues tended to (like a big blob of bird shit on your umbrella cover) and stored properly in the off season. But it does hold up very well. We got about 5 years out of our last set and my deck faces west with brutal sun beating down for 6+ hours a day. By the end it had faded some but still looked pretty good - we just wanted a color scheme change.

I kind of dig it for indoor furniture as well. A friend of ours had a really nice sofa made with Sunbrella because they have 3 kids all under 6 and don't like the microfiber/suede materials that tends to be the go to for high traffic furniture.
I went with the cheap Threshold Target Brand

best choice ever. They feel great, I bought packs of 4 at $32 a pop, so I have 2 spares for the ones that go the quickest and they are literally a fraction of the price of your average cushion.

And they look great too!

We just redid ours for 1/2 price of anything else in town from Target.com
