One misconception I've heard: Horwitz wasn't acting on his own. Mets' brass had instructed him to have Collins announce Syndergaard elbow.

I think they would be responsible for his contract if they claim him.
But I don't think this is just Terry being an asshole to Jay. I'm no fan of Terry as a strategist but he has been here six years and by all accounts is a nice guy. So, there must be some underlying tension. Could it be over Reyes? Terry made it pretty clear he would welcome Jose's return with all his comments about how much he loved Jose's presence. Maybe the FO does not want to sign Jose. Obviously that is speculation on my part but definitely seems like something is going on.

Technically, a team could claim Reyes off release waivers, though considering the $38.14MM remaining on his contract through the end of the 2017 season, hes a virtual lock to clear and seek new employment on the open market.

Not saying they HAVE to sign him; if he goes to a higher bidder then so be it. But I don't want to hear "well, we signed Jose so that's all we can do now", or some such crap...
Jose will cost peanuts, and DW is a huge question mark to ever return, so they had better do their due diligence on Gurriel, who would only cost money...

Nice thing about Grandy is he'll be fine anywhere in the lineup. Batting him leadoff was the one place that seemed like a big questionmark.
Cespedes said he first hurt wrist in '13 but only needed a few days. Reappeared over past wk. Said he can play today but was given day off.

I just don't think you can move Cabrera right now. He's playing some of the best SS we've seen in a while here.
Yup but that really helps us as he's likely up for a short term deal. If he was 25 we'd have to offer him a boatload more.

They won't do it though. They LOVE the chemistry in the middle. Seems like they are extremely hesitant to even move Walker to 3B. A position he has hundreds of professional games at (minors included). I also suspect they have an eye on that extra year of Herrera control (August).
I was against bringing him back, then I came around to the idea, and now I'm back to being "somewhat" against it.
There really is not alot to lose but I just don't see how Reyes helps this current team all that much. He's not a fit position wise. So far, Cabrera has been one of the brighter spot on the team and he's been terrific defensively.
What we need is for Conforto and TDA to stay healthy and hit. These are young guys we had penciled in. We need production from them badly.

Not necessarily. It's my understanding he hasn't played any ball this year. Can't sign for another week and it's going to take some time in the minors to get in shape. Lot can happen in that period.
Supposedly he has looked good and the numbers back that up. He hit .300. wRC+ of 145 in 9 games.

Dude wait until our guys from last year's draft get going. They are just starting. Our lower levels are stacked. Wotell, Szapucki, Simon, Sixto Torres... The Gonzales brothers... now Dunn, Kay and everyone from this draft.
I'd be pissed if we were the team that got called out there but they did the right thing. If there's no definitive evidence to overturn it, you have to let the call stand.

Blevins has been our LOOGY. He rarely ever even pitches a full inning. Until a week ago, Henderson pitched the 7th and Reed had been one of the best setup men in baseball. He's accumulated almost an entire win of fWAR not even at the halfway mark. That's positively incredible for a reliever.

Yes he made one mistake. Compounded by Blevins not getting out the lefty. All pitchers make mistakes though. Usually every game. Its up to the hitter to capitalize. Good job Braves. They showed fight all night.

You can't win with a lineup with batting averages like that. Just can't. Then throw in that the guy with the highest average is Loney, someone they basically reclaimed from the scrap heap. And second highest average is Mark Reynolds.

Agreed completely. Conforto is overmatched right now
He's been horrid. I love the kid and think he's going to be a great hitter but he's not above being sent down for a couple weeks. See what Nimmo can do. Swap them and let BN play LF every day for a bit. We can't keep giving away all these outs. Conforto needs to work his way out of this in Vegas.
