that the reason music sucks these days is because they don't allow bands to steal good riffs anymore. Either that or I'm just old.
WTF. Music does not suck these days. If you are into Jazz or Swing or Blues or Rock and Roll or Classic Rock or Metal or Disco or 80's or Grunge.
There is a MASSIVE WEALTH of artists out there influenced by the entire LOT. Just take the time to LOOK, and you will find.
Copied famous rock riffs are EVERYWHERE.
I'm 50 and I'm still finding new bands to love every year.
To me - it's the old stuff that has become unbearable. I intentionally steer far clear and wide of most classic rock, so it still has at least SOME impact.
I mean - hearing "Roadhouse Blues" and "American Girl" thousands of times over decades... it weakens the soul.
Fuck old-time rock and roll - gimmee new stuff. Gimmee KEXP.

Just as long as classic rock radio keeps playing 'Born to be Wild a few times a day. we'll be ok.
"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You"
"Black Mountain Side"
"Bring It On Home"
"Communication Breakdown"
"Custard Pie"
"Dazed And Confused" -
"Hats Off To (Roy) Harper"
"How Many More Times" (remarkably two stolen songs in this one)
"In My Time Of Dying"
"The Lemon Song"
"Moby Dick"
"Nobody's Fault But Mine"
"Since I've Been Lovin' You" -
"White Summer" "
"Whole Lotta Love"
Led Zeppelin were ahead of their time when it came to "sampling" from others. They just forgot to give the other artists credit (and royalties.)
And the ones that are... Their renditions are objectively better.
Interestingly i heard that Babe I'm gonna leave you was listed in the public domain by Baez - mistakenly - so when Page and Plant did their arrangement initially they followed Baez and noted their version in the public domain as well. After the original artist changed their filing for copyright all notes were changed and royalties are now paid.
Dazed and confused - Zeps is so much better than the Yardbirds it's like, why even go there? Page was in the band. Who cares.

"Dazed and Confused" was written by Jake Holmes. Led Zep and the Yardbirds both did covers of it.
They did go back and appropriately credit some of the original artists (Holmes included) but definitely not all of them. They were forced to credit/pay Howlin' Wolf because his manager sued them and they settled out of court.
not really a fan -I was when I was a teenager - but I made a lot of posts on the other thread because the case was idiotic. Glad to see the jury got it right.

Haha, I did have that same thought and there is probably a lot of truth to it.
