Ralph and Carter Stanley were right there with Bill Monroe and Flatt and Scruggs in the early days of bluegrass music. An icon, with that archtop banjo. Most, like Earl Scruggs, played a flathead banjo. It was his 'sound'.

We go to the Lyons Fiddle Festival every year. Every other song is a Stanley cover. The other songs are Scruggs.
