When I lived in South Jersey, people with PA. plates were for the most part not from PA. If they are from PA. they just aren't used to those straight roads you got in Jersey. Everything here is all hills and curves.
only from the 30th street train station in Philly out to Newtown Square a hundred or so times, and that was just slow going, not noticeably awful drivers, just a lot of slow traffic.
but based on where I have done the most driving (Boston, NY, CT, DC, NoVA, and maybe a couple more) I feel like I can say DC drivers are the worst. and forget about if there is any precipitation, any kind, in fact it doesn't even have to precipitate, just the threat of precipitation in DC causes Armageddon like panic.
all joking about sports teams aside.... you do realize the museums and the arts in Philadelphia are absolutely phenomenal? While downtown isnt NYC, its still an attraction. Broad street is remarkable. And there are some of the best restaurants in the USA there.
They cant really make good pizza or wings, but no one is perfect.
The worst are actually Connecticut, NJ, and Mass. In that order. CT drivers are fucking shit stains on the highways. Everyone avoids them and they stink.

For the record, I am from PA and hate Penn State with every bone in my body.
But dont be knocking flip phones. Id still rock it if I had a 2nd phone.
Go to NC, specifically the RTP area and you will want to have a Mad Max car and drive over everyone. Far and away the worst fucking drivers on Earth. I've unfortunately had to drive everywhere in the US except for Alaska for my job and no question in my mind, NC drivers are the fucking pits.

Connecticut drivers used to be the worse drivers on the G.S.Parkway. If there was a car doing 45 mph in the middle lane, it was ALWAYS a Connecticut driver. There were also woebums in NJ. Just as bad as Conn., but they were from NJ with the radio station WOBM sticker on the back.
I visit my cousins who live in 3 different suburbs of Philly. I used to turn down their blocks and surrounding areas and nearly have a heart attack because I thought it was a 1 way street due to cars on both sides facing whatever direction they wanted. I fucking hate it and so do all of the other NY drivers I know who go down there (like my Dad).
But I live in Florida and Florida drivers are the worst. Not just people with Florida plates, but vast majority of drivers. Because we live in state where people actually want to visit, we get every asshole with a license. A family in a mini-van might be perfectly capable of driving, but they come to Florida and all sense of reason is left at the border. Hey kids, look it's Mickey - [crash].
You can guarantee when the left lane isnt moving on the NJ Tpke, there is someone with a PA license plate doing 5 miles under the speed limit holding everyone up.
Spent time driving through 42 of our 50 states. I've lived in and around and commuted daily for extended stretches in NYC, NJ, CT, Boston, Denver, LA, Orange County and San Diego.
It is not a matter of opinion, it's fact - the state with the worst drivers (and it's not even close) is Pennsylvania.
It's really remarkable.
Lived on Long Island the first 32 years of my life and moved to
the Reading, PA area....first thing I noticed is that folks in this area DO NOT know how to merge onto a parkway. There is a long runway to get up to speed and merge in properly but nooooooo...they stop! and then start very slowly and then move over stopping the well moving traffic so every entrance on the parkway is a kick in the you know whats!
The brake companies make tons down here!
However, in my many years experience driving, the worst drivers are from Pennsylvania!!!!!!
It is my experience that a PA driver will do almost anything, including running you off the road, to be ahead of you. It's not like I am a slow driver by any means, I'll jump you stopped at a red light once it turns green and practically red line that sucker if I need to.....but when I see a PA plate, I back off, they're completely nuts.
Additionally, we need to have some levity here. It's human nature to make a mental note of a bad incident if the driver has an out of state plate, and easy to forget if you encounter a driver with an out of state plate who drives reasonably and safely.
Having said all of that, when I am in another state, I am on my best behavior.
Recently drove from MD to Detroit. For the most part slower traffic stayed right in PA,OH and MI. Once we got into MD....60+% of the cars were hanging out in the left lane. It was maddening.
And while we are on it....when are drivers in the US going to learn how to zipper when you lose a lane. When the traffic is slowed because of a loss of a lane... you merge at the point the lane ends. Merging early just slows the traffic down for everyone else.
that people are much better at driving than up in the Wyoming Valley. I think its mostly the plethora of old people and people who have no where to go and just drive slow.
I got it covered above. But specifically, the Canadians can't drive for shit in Florida. We literally count the 6 month lease at the RV parks and celebrate when the Canadians leave.
I've lived in Florida, Maryland New Jersey and Pencilvania
Pennsylvania - I hate the state. Construction NEVER ends, and a traditional PA site will have 30 miles of freakin cones for work on a 100 yard stretch, and nobody will ever, EVER actually be working on the site.
Jersey makes no sense, unless your from there. Then you know how to handle traffic (similar to NASCAR pack racing) and when and how to use the 'weave' - fast lane to slow lane back to fast lane to get around slower traffic.
My favorite place to drive was Manhattan, back in my delivery days. I could FLY, most drivers there are consistent in their insanity, cabbies and truckers are generally predictable, and the synchronization of the city's signals makes things easy for experienced drivers. I FLEW in that city with an 8-bay diesel monster.
My favorite thing about PA is that they put THESE signs up at construction sites:

Most people outside of the NY metro area don't understand merging imo. Where I live, there is an exit ramp with two lanes that merge into one lane. These idiots will back up traffic forever in one lane while the other lane is entirely open until the merge point. Some of these fools will ride down the center to block you from trying to use the open lane. Like a good new yorker, I always blow by these people in the open lane before reaching the merge point. The city, obviously recognizing that they made the ramp with two lanes rather than one for a reason, recently put up signs that say "stay in your lane until the merge point." Of course, the idiots ignore the new signs and some still try to ride down the center line to effectively create one lane. Amazing. Heh, if you enjoy sitting in traffic for 20 minutes while there is an open lane right next to you, be my guest. I don't have that kind of free time to burn.
Believe it or not, it's not necessary to create a three-mile traffic jam just because you are passing through a tunnel. It's actually possible to drive faster than 10 mph through a tunnel. LOL.
who drives from the Lehigh valley in PA (especially those raised there) drive scared. It is one thing to drive defensively but to drive scared is another thing completely. This is why they clog up the left lane so much and drive so damn slow. They feel more comfortable in the left lane because the traffic isn't as close to them (on the drivers side). I have actually had a couple people say to me "I don't have to get over to the right, they can go around me on the right" while I was backseat commenting that they were holding up a huge line of cars..... amazing.
I have come upon several instances in PA of people blocking the second lane of an upcoming merge about 3 miles from the merge point..... drove me crazy, what is wrong with you.
RE: I've lived in Florida, Maryland New Jersey and Pencilvania
And Pennsylvania drivers are one of the worse drivers I encounter. Connecticut and Massachusetts drivers are up there too.
I am currently teaching my niece how to drive and I can tell you that the testing in Pennsylvania is a complete joke. I can parallel park my truck in the space required for the test.
is when you first head out of Boston - West - on the Mass Pike. As soon as the traffic opens up a bit, it's like a fucking free for all Mad Max race to the next toll plaza. People weaving in and out, cutting each other off, almost smashing into the median because the lanes are narrow, disabled cars all over the shoulder, Staties peeking their sneaky little radar detectors out from the shadows, no one uses a signal, no one cares. Fucking awful.
IMO Massachusetts are by far the worst and it isn't even close
Haven't noticed an issue there at all. Truck volume and constant road construction on I-80 and I-81 seem to be bigger problems than the folks behind the wheel. Philly might be a different story. Then again, there's a lot of terrible driving in NYC too - much of it by NJ drivers who don't understand the difference between the Turnpike and Ninth Avenue.
RE: IMO Massachusetts are by far the worst and it isn't even close
...they are slow, unaware lemming types who give right of way when they shouldn't far too often. A 4-way stop I persecution. Becomes a Mexican standoff, everyone waving o e another on.
I drive circles around them. It's a driver's dream here. No rush hour.
for so long I've assimilated to the driving culture and I don't find the drivers "bad".
they will almost never use a signal to change lanes or turn, they'll take right turns from the far left lane cutting off traffic, and vice versa with left turns.
they'll tailgate you in the fast lane when you're going 85, you let them pass, they slow down to the same speed you were going. they'll bypass backed up exit traffic and cut in at the last second, and/or they'll exit off the highway at the last minute cutting off traffic.
they text when driving (though most states have this problem)
I think having lived here for 17 years and expecting the unexpected has made me a better driver.
i can go to any state and fit in perfectly, in fact I find most other states pleasant.
except DC. they go slow in the left lane, fast in the right lane, or mix and match those above into a surprise grab bag of inconsistency, they don't know where they're going, ride their brakes constantly, etc, they just don't understand how a highway is supposed to function and each lane has a purpose.
Interstate 76 sucks (The one that goes to Ohio)
Man they are fucking awful.
But New Yorkers cant drive in Philly because we actually have driving laws here. No free for all like it is in NYC.
Boring trolls are boring.

Pensy clowns third...
Did so. On this thread.

Moved to Lehigh and it was refreshing for a year. Now I realize...they are the same as NY

Central Florida is bad. You have to be a solid defensive driver to avoid accidents.

Agreed.
