"“Everybody thinks he can, to a man,” Collins said. “We put Matt Reynolds out there. This guy is as good an athlete as Matt is. He’s got the arm for it, he’s got the foot-speed for it.”
No sense waiting until Saturday at say, 1:01 p.m. to say, “Hey, can Jose catch flies?”
“Even though they’re not here, you’ve got to have some type of a plan in mind when he does get here, especially at this particular time,” Collins said. “We’ve got so many things going on. … We’ve discussed it, if Jose happens to come, what we’re going to do.”"
Jose is a lifetime .290 hitter and he hit .285 with Toronto last year.
He was terrible in Colorado but I think that is mostly because he was sulking. That's not to excuse it. He is a professional and should have played to his bet capability. But he is also a human and being and none of us are perfect.
So, I completely write off Colorado, which means I don't buy into the notion his skills have declined.
Of course, that's just my opinion and the it may prove o be wrong. But for the sake of argument, let's just say I'm right and Reyes can hit .290 and play a decent SS. Any chance he takes Cabrera's job?
and going to AAA for a week or two. I wonder where they will play him, but I guess they're wondering the same which is why they floated the idea of LF, 2B and 3B. Regardless I think he's going to add a much needed jolt to the lineup and will hopefully be fine defensively wherever he goes.
Wtf? The guy has said his elbow felt tight two games in a row. He was rubbing it like a mad man last night. Structural damage or not we are playing with fire. Give him a game off or two!
I don't get this nonsense of playing Reyes out of position Â
Terry will get him in the lineup. You can see from his comments how much he loves Jose.
I agree about not disrupting Walker and Cabrera's chemistry. Those guys can turn a DP. But Cabrera also has no range. His lack of speed also leads to rally killing GIDPs when he bats second. Getting him some days off and moving him down in the lineup won't be the worst thing.
And while he has played well, he is batting .265 with an OPS around .720 or .730. So, it is not like he is tearing it up.
Steven Matz hit 94 MPH or better on the TV radar gun
On 25 of 35 fastballs in 1st 4 innings
On 1 of 17 fastballs in 5th inning

This combined with that shot of Matz rubbing his elbow before the 5th inning is worrisome.
Today is the 4th game in a 20 in 20 stretch. Bullpen had already tossed 13 2/3 innings entering tonight. That adds up quickly.
Only 2nd time Terry has asked Jeurys for 1+ innings, but this is appearance 37 in 72 games.
Nats ace Max Scherzer gave up 5 runs in Milwaukee tonight, and Nats are trailing, 5-3. Nats have not won since exactly a week ago.
We need our next starter to go long! Is it Degrom's turn?
Steven Matz's elbow is fine, Terry Collins says. He doesn't even have it wrapped in the postgame clubhouse. #Mets

Collins said Matz feels fine. Just lost command. #Mets

TC says Matz didn't raise any issue with his elbow.
What quasi-injury? He took a cortisone needle in the wrist. That's no picnic.
Matz says his elbow feels fine.
But that was only part of the sentence
Anthony DiComo
Matz hesitated a bit when asked about rubbing his elbow in the dugout, but said only: "It's been tight, but it's fine."
"Miraculous," d'Arnaud says of Loney's pick to end the game.
Clint Robinson pinch hitting
"Just leaving the ball up and they were capitalizing." Matz on his unraveling in the fifth.
Steven Matz fastball velo in 5th inning typically down about .3-.4 mph from 1st-4th
Today was down a full mph (93.7 to 92.7)
Money had to anticipate where that throw would be. Was shielded by the runner.

Nats lose.
Cespedes is fine. Said he simply lost the ball.

I can live with that lineup.

They're supposedly really happy with Cabrera's defense and don't want to move him.
Reyes in LF sounds a little crazy to me but I think he could passably handle 3B.
Also, the Nats are in a bit of a tailspin right now. They've gotta be kicking themselves for not being able to capitalize on us losing to ATL 4 times.
