Dan in the Springs : 6/24/2016 2:12 pm
Just wondering. Been reading a lot about it online and wondering about a second/retirement home there. Thoughts?

If serious, don't cross Costa Rico off your list. I hear good things about the place.
If it's good enough for...

will check it out. Apparently Panama is full of ex-pats who rave about it - that's why I checked it out first. Costa Rica has obvious appeal - so I will look into it.
my college roommate and his wife moved to Panama

4 years ago, after 10 years in Tokyo. They can't say enough good things about it. I'm really overdue to take a trip down there and see what it's all about
What I have read is that Panama

I've heard the same, and this is part of the allure for me.

But I hear there are lots of Pats unusable championship shirts down in that area.
I read about it a few years ago in terms

of a lot of ex-pats. I think one negative was that outside of the mini-retirement communities, it wasn't a wonderful place to live.

I later read about Portugal as another place to retire. There are a lot of ex-pats and Brits in a few nice towns on the coast. It is a nice option if you want a jumping off point to visiting other European nations.
How does it work with healthcare?

If you move out of country, are you still covered by Medicare? I assume you still get SS (but have to pay taxes).

Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica on vacation and absolutely love the town. Going to try and check out Panama because of its proximity
