(Let's try this again. No hard feelings, Shadow. The consensus just seemed to be that those Reddit spoilers crossed the line.)
This is the weekly free-for-all thread. As usual, the main constraint is not to post information from advance viewing of the actual episode. So, if you received a DVD from your cousin at HBO that shows Cersei Lannister napalming the Great Sept of Baelor, please keep it to yourself. Anything else is fair game,
BUT...
IF YOU HAVE GOOD REASON TO THINK A SPOILER CAME FROM SOMEBODY WHO HAS ALREADY SEEN THE EPISODE, PLEASE BE COURTEOUS ABOUT POSTING
Official HBO synopsis:
Link to official photos is below, courtesy of Watchers on the Wall.
Predictions:
1. Loras swears off the big D.
2. So does Daenerys (for now).
3. Frey pies! Frey smoothies! Freyburgers! Frey Fries!
4. Monkfries: Cersei chooses more violence... much more... maybe more than she intended.
5. T.o.J.: R + L = J + x. Solve for x.
Week 9 Death Pool Winners: Ramsay Bolton, Rickon Stark, Smalljon Umber, Wun Weg Wun Dar Dun, Free Folk, Northmen, Yunkish and Astapori slavers (and their crewmen, most of whom were likely slaves - oops), Sons of the Harpy. Status of Harald Karstark and the Harpy herself still TBD.
Death Pool Opening Favorites for Week 10 - bloodbath expected:
Lyanna Stark (vision) 1-10
High Sparrow 1-2
Septa Unella 1-2
Lancel Lannister and anonymous FM devotees 1-2
Walder Frey, his heirs and successors 1-2
Loras Tyrell 1-1
Grand Maester Pycelle 1-1
Kevan Lannister 3-2
Tommen Baratheon 2-1
Melisandre of Assha'i 2-1
Margaery Tyrell 4-1
Euron Greyjoy 8-1
Davos Seaworth 10-1
Jon might also need to behead Harald Karstark, if the little weasel is still alive. Or maybe Jon and Sansa start rebuilding the Northern Alliance by pardoning Karstark. Somebody has to defend Karhold in the War to Come.
(I'll repost the rest of the prior thread below.)

Really can you stop? It's been a good thread so far and it seems mean spirited and childish to try and ruin things for the rest of us.
I wonder how Bran could prove Jon's lineage, since he'd likely be seen as a deranged cripple by most nobles. One plausible scenario would involve Meera's father.
Howland Reed's appearance would be key there, right.

Or Sam with all those books and scrolls. He may find writings from or about Rhaegar, marriage certificate, or something. Seems he is there to find out some kind of lost information.

Didn't sound like the citadel was the most current or accurate with their records. Just from that one brief interaction sam had with the receptionist or whatever he was. though i did think about this too, but it was more like Sam would come up with a way to defeat the white walkers and their wights that's more scalable than the 5 valyrian steel swords in the seven kingdoms.
maybe a way to quickly create obsidian/dragon glass or just a simple way to defeat them based on historical records.
How will Jon feel knowing the Mad King was his Grandfather and what he did to the Starks who raised him? How will Sansa react to it?
Their is no way the King of the North is a Targ? You think Baelish won't use that?
The White Wolf is really a Dragon. Jon did a lot of moping around this season imagine next season when he finds out who he really is
Is he the prince that was promised ?

This is not how you win your father's approval.

Too much psychological tempering by the Man when shadow was in the secret world of spies.

Jon is a Targaryen and Stark.

I mean maybe, but what else do you need to know. Valyrian steel, dragon glass which they have a ton of at dragon stone, fire for the wights, etc... What more do you really need to know to beat them.
maybe a way to quickly create obsidian/dragon glass or just a simple way to defeat them based on historical records.
The thing about the Citadel is that it's all there. The problem is that after accumulating knowledge for 8000 years, and with no computers, you end up with more library bureaucracy - like the jerk at the front desk - and corrupt dead weight like Pycelle, than actual wisdom. The Citadel has all the trees, but too few Maesters like Aemon who can see the forest. (Maybe his literal blindness helped.)
Can you imagine the reaction of a typical Citadel paper-pusher to finding a marriage certificate for Rhaegar and Lyanna? "Hmmm... that's odd. Filed under S when it should have been under T. Well, we'll fix that soon enough!"
If Sam can cut through all that volume and inertia, he might find ways to beat not only the Others, but also greyscale, wildfire, Frankenmountain, dragons, dragon infertility, and a host of other challenges.
Lyanna Stark (vision) 1-10 DEAD FOR TWENTY YEARS
High Sparrow 1-2 DEAD
Septa Unella 1-2 BETTER OFF DEAD
Lancel Lannister and anonymous FM devotees 1-2 DEAD*1000
Walder Frey, his heirs and successors 1-2 DEAD*3
Loras Tyrell 1-1 DEAD
Grand Maester Pycelle 1-1 DEAD
Kevan Lannister 3-2 DEAD
Tommen Baratheon 2-1 DEAD
Melisandre of Assha'i 2-1 EXILED
Margaery Tyrell 4-1 DEAD
Euron Greyjoy 8-1 NOT SEEN
Davos Seaworth 10-1 ALIVE
So who is Daenerys third husband? Are there odds?
Jon Snow?
Littlefinger?
Jamie Lannister?
Aegon/Young Griff?
Daario?
Tyrion?
Other?
Asha/Yara?
Don't rule out Jorah.
If Daenerys were going to marry a landless sellsword, it might as well be Daario. Jorah is equally penniless, much older, fatally ill, and very unlikely to reclaim his ancestral seat. Bear Island is in excellent (if tiny) hands.
I like Jorah's chances of beating the grayscale, and Iain Glen is way better-looking than book Jorah. But he's not exactly marriage material. Captain of the Queensguard? Absolutely. King? Can't see it.

You obviously thought a lot about the marriage prospect of Jorah.

We're so beyond the books with the Arya storyline at this point. No way to answer that.
Well Stannis' daughter had greyscale and they not only stopped it from spreading on her, but it wasn't contagious

Spreads through touch. Even if cured which is unlikely I doubt she marries jorah
Well Stannis' daughter had greyscale and they not only stopped it from spreading on her, but it wasn't contagious
if they catch it early and treat it sometimes they can stop the spreading, do you really think the queen of the seven kingdoms (or future queen of the seven kingdoms) is going to take that chance for Jorah Mormont? Who is as mentioned a penniless sellsword pretty much.

No he doesn't stand a chance, but not because of the grayscale. That isn't the issue.

it definitely doesn't help his case. in fact if there were no other reasons pretty sure that would be enough of one.q

seems like I missed something important there. Did I, or just something to say Sam made it somewhere?
At this point, it's only value seems like it would be confirming Jon's lineage or finding something key about killing WW's.
I think it's almost certainly going to be some secret about the WW's.
Did anyone catch that link on the other thread about the chandeliers? Pretty cool.
Although Royce was in command for the attack on the Bolton army at Winterfell, he isn't Lord of the Eyrie, Defender of the Vale, Warden of the East or any of the other fancy titles that entitle Robin/Robert to make bad men fly.
Strictly speaking, wouldn't bending the knee to Jon as King in the North break House Royce's oath of fealty to the Aerie? Littlefinger threatened to turn Robin against Yohn Royce earlier in the season. He might make good on the threat in 2017, after securing the support of other Vale Lords.
Earlier in season 6, when Robin almost threw Royce through the moon door. I think that is when Royce's illusion of ever "tutoring" Robin into a leader that the Vale needed, pretty much ended.
Now that Royce was the Jon Snow's presence and saw all the northern Lord swear allegiance to their King of the North. I think Royce simply just wants to follow a leader a believes in and he believes in Jon over a little twerp who almost threw him to his death.
The written history did not start until long after the andals had conquered and even then it was only recorded in the main areas of interest and activity.
It was long after the children. The first men. The long night and the age of heroes. Pretty much all of the world wonders of Westeros predate all recorded history. There's legends spoken down the ages, but nothing reliable.
The Citadel is built on a structure that's included in those wonders, but how much of that does Sam have to discover before the Nights army marches south?
Sam doesn't have enough time to train.
