the past..

Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter – tomorrow we will run faster, stretch our arms out further………….And one fine morning -

the "beat on" line
grizz299 : 6/25/2016 9:34 am : link
is from the close of F.Scott Fitgerald's masterpiece..

He touches the same theme (only about the future) earlier in the booke with "Gatsby believed ..............."

We can't go back and there we can't hold the future, it's all about the present........
Unless you're a photon in the double slit experiment with a delayed observer. They apparently can not only go back in time and redo an event, they can be in two different places at the same time. Honestly!

Was a great coach but he was not without faults.

Am I sorry he,'s gone .... I not going to lie
yes I'm glad he's gone.I wanted a change at the efnd of 2013.

Do I respect what Tom has done for this organization? No question about it he was one of the best we even had., but it is time move on with a younger innovative coach who can lead us into the future.

I think Mac has the potential to be one of the top coaches in the NFL. Yes there is going to be growing pains as it is with all young players and coaches but in the long run, we the fans are going to be spoiled with our teams ability to contend for a Super Bowl year after year. (Patriot like) as long as we have Eli.
I still miss LT but I am gratefull for the years he played
wgenesis123 : 6/25/2016 9:42 am : link
for the Giants. Thanks to the likes of Coughlin and Eli and many others I do not miss the feeling of winning a Super Bowl that came with LT. Its fading a bit though, another one soon would be nice.

A no nonsense, football lifer who brought us two championships. Couldn't love him more. But I'm also excited to move on. Change is inevitible and you simply have to hope and trust that it brings good things in the long run.

2016 replaced as Head Coach
2015 Forced to get new DC 6-10
2014 Forced to get new OC 6-10
2013 losing season 7-9
2012 no playoffs 9-7
2011 Superbowl winners
I don't think TC lost his fast ball
TrueBlue56 : 6/25/2016 10:06 am : link
At all and I still think he could run circles around most of the current head coaches in the NFL. TC has proven he can coach and win when he has the talent on the team. It is no coincidence that our records since the last superbowl correlates with the severe lack of talent and horrible drafts.

TC had his faults, even some faults that I respected about him. He is loyal to his players and coaches and his philosophy was to beat you straight up. No gimmicks or trick plays.

He represented the giants so well.
Coughlin's red face and the winning field goal in Green Bay.

Biggest flaw
Shadow : 6/25/2016 10:29 am : link
didn't know when to cut bait and leave. Won two Super Bowls
After it went sour in 2013-14 Quit move on. But even then the Maras gave him last year and he still didn't know when it was time to go. Blowing game decisions. Off a Bye week the Team was not ready for a big time game. The Odell thing leaving a young player to Embarrass himself and the organization?
I love Tom Coughlin for what he did and the the 2 Super Bowls but he was the guy who at your house party refuses to go home when everyone is gone. Some one once said they were going to have to rip the playbook from his hands.
The Anti Parcels who refused to stick around after winning. He was done. Time to move on.

BlueLou : 6/25/2016 12:00 pm : link
Coaching ability is concerned needs to become better acquainted with about half the coaches currently holding NFL head coaching jobs who aren't fit to scrub TC's soiled shorts.

Having said that, his time to remain at the Giants helm had passed.

But his teams lost because of lacking talent via poor drafts and bad injury luck to high picks. Not because he "forgot how to coach."
Coughlin will always a place in Giants history and the hearts of fans
Vanzetti : 6/25/2016 12:36 pm : link
But unfortunately he stayed way too long. Imagine his legacy if he had retired after the second super bowl?

I'm actually looking forward to a few years down the line when I can finally get rid of the bad taste that Coughlin 2012-5 left in my mouth. And just remember the greatness Coughlin brought this franchise

It s rare when a coaching career ends on a positive note. It was time to move on. The end of the Dallas game was inexcusable doubt it would have happened earlier in his career. There was a lack of discipline on his last few teams and a lack of positive energy.

I know what he accomplished and Imwas for him being retained the first 3 times he was almost fired, while many here also supported his dismissal.

It s a young man s game and new ideas were needed. Just my opinion m

I'm not sure how innovative McAdoo is yet
Ivan15 : 6/25/2016 1:15 pm : link
He brought in an offense from the early 1980s and replaced Gilbride's offense of the 1990s which was too innovative because it relied on the IQ of its wide receivers.

Updating training methods and music at practice are hardly innovative.

But yes, it was time for TC to go. I just wish the transition could have been smoother.

Ivan We will be running the Greenbay Offense not the old 49ers brand. Mike McCarthy's is the blue print with Mac adding what he wants to it. Its by no means older than the Coughlin/Gilbride one.
To me the MOST INTERESTING thing
David B. : 6/25/2016 2:44 pm : link
Will be to see if the Giants STILL lead the league (or are among the top5) in injuries in this season. If they STILL ARE, we can conclude it had nothing to do with TC and the old Strength/Conditioning coach/program.

If they are NOT, and they trend back toward "normal," that's a pretty big indictment of the TC regime on that front.

That's a nice thought, but you know some folks will always find another side of the argument. "Now that Reese has stopped drafting damaged goods, of course people are getting injured less often..."
Does TC still come to the facility to work out regularly?

David B.
CT Charlie : 6/25/2016 6:28 pm : link
Correlation doesn't imply causation. We will likely have fewer injuries just because of regression to the mean, so one year won't tell us much.

Why don't you list some of the injuries
AP in Halfmoon : 6/25/2016 6:50 pm : link
that are the fault of the coaches?
Or tell us what Coughlin
AP in Halfmoon : 6/25/2016 6:52 pm : link
Did differently in the years they had better than average health?
After his first four
Big Al : 6/25/2016 7:05 pm : link
He said after being hired.:

"I'm aware of the injury factor, the number of IRs, which is a cancer, let's face it," Coughlin said. "It's something that has to be corrected. It's a mental thing, I believe, as much as anything else."

In Coughlin's first season as Giants coach, 18 players finished the season on IR. He has placed 47 players on IR in his four.
Coughlin's my favorite all time coach...
Dan in the Springs : 6/25/2016 8:26 pm : link
and it will take a lot to unseat him. I feel bad that he was let go, but he did it the right way, IMO. I found it ironic that the injuries to the roster really hamstrung him given his statements re: injuries on his hire.

TC's teams were always well-prepared, and generally always well coached. We'll certainly find faults in the losses, and I've accepted that we probably needed the shakeup.

I'll always have a soft spot for coach Coughlin, who always represented the NYG with class and dignity, and IMO will always be part of the Giants.

Yes I am aware that has always been the weak excuse for his own similar failures. Known as spin.

I'm fairly certain he's not enforcing prison rules football in practices.
Tom went through several phases ...
Manny in CA : 6/26/2016 12:48 am : link
The Bunker Phase - Made a loud entrance, ripping posters off the wall, then sequestered himself in himself in his office a month

TheTransitionalPhase - Enjoyed limited success

The Crisis Phase - Came to the very edge of getting thrown out the door (till saved by Michael Strahan and other players speaking for him to the owners

The Championship Phase - Strong group of very good players and good coaching deliver 2 championships

Steady Decline - Tom, his coaches and the front office combine to deliver a mediocre product, end in in Tom's dismissal
