isn't he from the DR?

why would the go all the way to Reunion to sign him?
Very good sign

1. He costs nothing so it is no-risk proposition.

2. Lifetime .290 hitter who batted .285 last year with Toronto. Low batting averages are the Mets number one problem.

3. Speed and the inability to manufacture runs is problem 1A. Reyes is a contact hitter who will help not only with hits but productive outs.

4. Shows Sandy can adjust his Moneyball philosophy when the results show that it is failing.
He's certainly not an every day player any more.

Use him to share third base with Flores?

He was an everyday player with Toronto last year. Toronto had the best lineup in MLB. What has changed?
How long do we expect him to play

He was awful last year. He was an every day player because of his salary nothing more. No risk gamble but simply playing games doesn't = "he must have been pretty good". He was well below average last year.
