NFT: Greek Islands

HeftyLefty : 6/25/2016 6:09 pm
Looking to book a trip to Europe. Will have 5 days, 4 nights dedicated to the greek islands, planning 1 in Rhodes, 1 in Santorini, 2 in Mykonos.

Thoughts? Does this make sense? Best place to see ferry/boat schedules??

Appreciate it.
There are so many options.

I love Santorini so much I would spend 3 days there
you're going to spend a lot of time traveling between islands
Mellowmood92 : 6/25/2016 9:20 pm : link
consider 2, or even 1. Santorini is amazing.. If you're single and enjoy the night life - then mykonos
I highly recommend

This exactly^^^^.

Santorini is amazing and there is nightlife there too, but it's not the wild pick up scene that Mykokos is.

Definitely don't do more than 2 on such a short trip. I wouldn't do more than 1, even if I were 30 years younger.
I'd pick 1 island

2 max with that amount of time. Travel from Mykonos to Santorini is a 4-5 hour commitment between getting to the port, waiting, the 2 hour ferry ride, then a car to your next hotel. You'll regret 4 islands in 5 days no question.

We did 5 on Mykonos and 5 on Santorini, loved both for different reasons.
We did

3 each in Santorini and Mykonos for our honeymoon
Thanks for the Advice

Would you reccomend extra time for Santorini or Mykkonos?

Best website to find ferry times?
I went to santorini

for 3 days on my honeymoon. I wish I could have stayed longer as the views were absolutely breathtaking.

If not man I wish my wife and I had more than the 3 days we did in santorini... we stayed in the astra suites in Imerovigli and it was amazing. Rented a quad for the whole time we were there and we were able to get all over the island and so whatever we wanted without being beholden to the crazy bus system. Mykonos is all tourists... santorini has much more of a local flavor.

First of all I like the schedule you posted above. I can only comment re places to stay on Santorini because I've been there twice and never been to Mykonos...

Stayed in Megalichori one romamtic couple's weekend and Kamari for a week with the kids. The west side of the Island is where the spectacular sunsets occur regularly, where the ferries dock, and where the boat trips that take you to the ultra warm lava heated and multi colored mineral waters are near the small islands west of Santorini and you absolutely want to take that boat tour.

Our Megalichori hotel, like many hotels on the west side, was perched on a cliff edge and had fantastic views. But I don't recall there being much to do around Megalochori... Not a lot of beaches on the west side, barely any. Oiai at the northwest tip is the most well known town for spectacular sunsets and the very best restaurants and IIRC the swankest cruise ships dock there. It's the most artsy town with small studios of crafts, jewelry makers, artisan potters shops littered about.

From Kamari to Perivolia are mamy hotels and B&Bs but some or many of the beaches are black pebbles and not sand. Kamari has more modest but still very nice accommodations there. With 2 small kids, we had a suite for a very good price.

Getting further south on the east shore you find Perissa with crystal clear blue water and water sports on that side and tons and tons of restsurants, bars, beach clubs all along the water. Perissa would be a very fine choice for a short stay if you want beach and nightlife together.

Akrotiri on the southern side looked like a less developed area, near some nice sandy multicolored beaches, that was a bit hippyish in vibe.

I recommend you check out an Insight Guide to Greece...

Thanks for the advice Lou.

Going to be 3 Mid-20s single guys going, not sure how that impacts. All able to get a week off from work and making the most of it. Going to be in Copenhagan a few days before.
Rent a car while you're there.
BlueLou : 6/27/2016 6:59 pm : link
Between 3 it's not much and you'll wanted to go to the hottest club on Santorini which is in the local capitol, Thira (IIRC) for late night life but you don't want to stay there.

Stay in Perissa...
Worth renting instead of taxiing?

?
Yeah.
