Verrett, Goeddel, or Gilmartin really needs to go down. Operating with a 3 man bench(not counting the backup catcher) is for the birds.

So, Granderson/Cabrera needed a day. TC obliged, wants his guys fresh. Big series begins Monday

Marc Carig
Your Mets closer today: Hansel Robles or Erik Goeddel. Familia is getting a breather, and Reed likely will, too.

Anthony DiComo
Nimmo has played 32 prior professional games in RF, including five this season. He actually has as much experience in right as in left.

Rich Coutinho
hearing Strasberg pulled from his start in Milwaukee and hearing it is not to pitch vs Mets as his back soreness resurfaced Bears Watching

Sandy Alderson will be on Coney Island this afternoon to watch Jose Reyes debut in person. #Mets

Matt Ehalt
Wheeler will long toss tomorrow. Lagares is doing baseball activities. No date set yet for when he will start a rehab assignment.

Didn't realize Reyes was already debuting - when does tda give up #7?

I mean, it's the right thing to do, isnt it?
how is Nimmos arm?
chris r : 6/26/2016 11:38 am : link
does it play in RF? Of course Granderson doesn't have a RFers arm either..

I wouldn't expect TDA to give up his number, but he started his Mets career as #15 and I think #7 was available so who knows. #15 is Matt Reynolds for now.

I think I heard TDA
ZGiants98 : 6/26/2016 11:45 am : link
Already mentioned he'd be ok with giving up number 7.

Has to be better than Granderson's.

HR'd two days in a row. including a 3-run GW HR last night.

Yup. Rosario had another nice night
ZGiants98 : 6/26/2016 12:00 pm : link
Vegas went bonkers off a good prospect. Cheech just keeps mashing with a triple last night.

Our draft guys are slowly arriving at Brooklyn. Dunn reporting there now. Excited for Alonso to get there.

Heard the Mets and Giants have expressed interest in Angels third baseman Yunel Escobar. He's likely to be dealt before the Aug. 1 deadline.

Almost suggested him the other day. He's having another nice season. He just has very little power, middle of the order ability. Seems like with Reyes, Nimmo, possibly Herrera we have a bunch of the top of the order type players... We need another middle of the order bat. We are down Wright, Duda, and really Conforto too (based off expectations). I want Cespedes to have more protection than just Walker.
SF Giants are going after Beltran
Vanzetti : 6/26/2016 1:04 pm : link
I don't see why they would be interested in Escobar. Duffy got off to a slow start but he has been hitting lately and he is very good defensively, has good speed, and is a guy who puts the bat on he ball.

There really doesn't seem to be a fit. They also have Tomlinson has a backup.
An obvious point but one we lose sight of sometimes
Vanzetti : 6/26/2016 1:12 pm : link
The offense is brutal. I mean just look at that lineup today. It's mostly backups and AAA players.

The defense is mediocre at best.

Zero speed.

A manager who is a poor strategist.

A team that makes dumb mistakes like Cespedes last night.

Yet, this team is only 2 games behind because the pitching is so damn good. The starters just keep the team in the game night after night. They had no business beating Teheran last night. He was dominant. But DeGrom shut them down and eventually Johnson gets a fat pitch from one of their middle relievers and, boom, they win 1-0.
Id almost love to have Beltran back
ZGiants98 : 6/26/2016 1:23 pm : link
for a couple months. Shit... Reyes... Get the whole gang back together. lol. Beltran is exactly the kind of protection Cespedes needs.
Stick him in LF
ZGiants98 : 6/26/2016 1:27 pm : link
Leave Reyes at 3B. Once Duda gets back we could have a postseason lineup of

Reyes
Granderson
Cespedes
Duda
Beltran
Walker
TDA
Cabrera
It would be classic
pjcas18 : 6/26/2016 1:33 pm : link
to see the Giants give up a huge prospect for Beltran.....again.

Wheeler still needs to pan out, but regardless the Giants not making the playoffs and just renting Beltran had to sting.

That said, I'd like Beltran too if he didn't cost much, such a clutch post-season player, watching a nasty strike 3 from Wainwright to end the NLCS aside.

Freeman does damage vs the Mets.

Strasburg to DL, will miss at least the Mets series starting tomorrow.

Well..
ZGiants98 : 6/26/2016 2:04 pm : link
Nimmo looked pretty fast getting down the line at least!
Oh this is cringeworthy
ZGiants98 : 6/26/2016 2:05 pm : link
Gary. Ugh.
Loney certainly won't scare anyone, but he's done a great job
Eric on Li : 6/26/2016 2:34 pm : link
filling in. He doesn't strike out much, plays a good 1b, and makes a decent amount of contact. Could be an interesting combo with him and Flores at 1B. Would like to see Nimmo's patience come through here and at least get himself a good pitch to go after.
Maybe Nimmo's speed
ZGiants98 : 6/26/2016 2:38 pm : link
Hasn't translated in terms of SB/gets weird reeds in CF? But he looks pretty damn quick to me.
Situational batting
sphinx : 6/26/2016 2:47 pm : link
1st and 3rd, 1 out. Your the #8 hitter with Bartolo Colon up next. The chances of Bartolo getting a hit and driving in a run are as close to 0 as you can get. Why in hell are you taking a called 3rd strike? You've got to know it's you who has to get that guy in. Swing the friggin bat. You strike out, it's OK you tried. The world knows you can't hit. But the world thinks you can at least swing.

He's still playing mostly CF in the minors
Eric on Li : 6/26/2016 2:51 pm : link
I'd imagine his range is similar to someone like Kirk (who was a decent overall athlete and never a negative in CF despite never being a SB threat). It'd be pretty disappointing if he isn't better than De Aza defensively.

He isn't "fast". But he isn't slow either. That's what happens when everyone starts regurgitating one persons opinion as fact. Hate to say it, but the one who DMM quoted the other day is very well known for doing that.
Big ab for Walker - getting this game tied would be big

I think maybe the sting was reduced by winning 3 championships in 5 years

one of them was before they acquired Beltran and he wasn't on the team for the other two, not sure I see the connection to how either WS title had anything to do with them dealing Wheeler for a Beltran rental.

Teheran isn't going anywhere unless Atlanta receives a similar package to what they received for Shelby Miller which is unlikely to happen. The Redsox have discussed both Teheran and Vizcaino but they would have to give up Moncada or Benintendi + another lower prospect which they seem unlikely to do at this point.

Both no brainier inexpensive deals at the time. Some times players don't play up to the back of their baseball cards. For every Bastardo there's a Reed.

It is annoying we haven't gotten more out of them though, especially Basardo who was the primary setup man for the Pirates last year.
