16-0, Super Bowl win 55-12

If you actually look at their schedule

It's relatively weak this year. The improvements on defense are tremendous. We ranked near the bottom in every defensive category except for takeaways +4 I believe. Add in the defensive help the addition. Of Shepard and I believe this team wins 10+ if healthy
It's entirely possible

If McAdoo, Patrick Graham, Zgonina, Adam Henry and Aaron Wellman infuse some much needed energy and it appears they are doing that, a lot will change for the better.

Sullivan has been here for Eli's best seasons and he's the OC now, Solari is hailed as one of the most well versed WCO running game coordinators/OL coaches in the game.

IF, a lot of IF here but the team with the fewest questions usually ends up winning the most games in this division and the Giants and Redskins appear to have that distinction. The edge though goes to us because I trust Eli more than Cousins. COusins has a better TE and overall better depth at WR but he doesn't have #13 and he doesn't have as solid a group of backs.

Defensively it's gelling but the trickle down effect that this DL has on the back 7 should be nothing short of a complete 180 on D. I've been down on this roster and team for 3 years but this offseason was huge and it may be premature but my optimism is as high as its been in a long time, possibly since we went in to 2012 loaded.

The Packers and Aaron Rodgers have had a turnstile on the OL and are consistently excellent on offense, we are close to that level now if not more explosive because of Beckham. Throw in a younger, bigger front 7 and added speed on the backend and this could be a team capable of a deep run.
12 is steep

But make no mistake about it. This is going to be a very competitive, if not very good football team.

I would be absolutely thrilled with 10 wins. I'd be very surprised if this team went 12-4. I could certainly see 10-6, though.

What I'm saying Poppy is what I've always believed, I don't give a shit what their record is as long as we make it to the tourney..Hey, I'd love 16-0 as I hate it when they lose ANY game, but any rcord works, despite the angst of defeat, if we get another chance at the hardware
cool

lets review this later this year as they actually keep score and post records AFTER you play the games.
With what our offense should do with Eli and OBJ in year 3
mfsd : 6/27/2016 3:41 pm : link
Of the new offense plus our offensive additions, our defense just needs to get back to being mediocre and we could win 4-6 more games than last year

Nice line TM, but I doubt that wth a team that has as many depth questions as the Giants do, while being quite certain about a majority of the starters, bothers to win a lot of preseason games.
Did anyone actually watch the linked video?
BlueLou : 6/27/2016 4:48 pm : link
Carr's respect for Eli is huge. The video that followed on NFL.com was Carr and the others at HQ wondering who will follow the great Brady vs Peyton battles as the next two QBs to have a legendary competition, and Carr picks Eli vs Romo.

Another point came up about situational play - maybe that was in the linked video - and Carr noted that Eli wasn't going to let MacAdoo make too many mistakes... Carr said "Eli's gonna be all over MacAdoo in his ear on the sidelines."
David Carr may be a Homer BUT
GMen23 : 6/27/2016 5:09 pm : link
This is the most optimistic I have been in a few years. Carr got paid pretty good a few years with us to sit in meetings and carry a clipboard on Gameday. After being the most sacked and abused QB in Houston and the League for years.
Step one, we came out of OTA's with a lot less injuries, then years past.
I'm convinced, key, or multiple injuries are the only thing that can hold us back.
Can we play some games first?
Shadow : 6/27/2016 5:43 pm : link
Seriously.
How many rookie HCs have started out with a team
BlueLou : 6/27/2016 6:10 pm : link
as well set up as the Giants appear to be for 2016?

A) He has an excellent vet QB and ascending, dynamic top 5 WR
B) He already has 2 years' experience as the OC.
C) His new OC has multiple years working with his QB and getting the best from Eli.
D) He barely has to even oversee his DC who has a ton of NFL experience and has a retooled D of his own with a much needed infusion of top line talent on his DL and and in his secondary.
E) Among the team's weakest units, TEs, he has particular expertise and at least a varied group of modestly promising players with some, albeit little, experience.
F) At another weak position group, the OL, he has 3 very young ascending players who were top draft picks, and a new OL coach reputedly among the league's best.

We should be optimistic at this juncture.

Optimism is free; but the defensive talent the Giants added cost well over 100 mil. That ain't free, and it ain't cheap.

Tuckrule : 6/27/2016 7:16 pm : link
the smartest player he has ever been around...i expect big things from Eli. Year 3 in the system adding weapons like shepard and having Tye for a full season will be nice. Defensive changes are huge. They sured up every level. Snacks and jpp coming back healthier with an offseason to train along with vernon. Additions like robinson with kennard returning and healthy. Adding jenkins and apple in the secondary. Only concern is safety but collins getting past that rookie year is a nice thing and he admitted he was second guessing himself a lot last season. thompson looks like a player back there as well. We shall see but at the very least this team should be competitive in a weak NFC east
I think 10 games is reasonable.
SanFranNowNCGiantsFan : 6/27/2016 7:18 pm : link
& if things break right, 12 could be done.

I think we need to listen to Eli's interview this evening
Makogman : 6/27/2016 7:26 pm : link
Most of us will assert that Eli Manning is not given to false optimism. Generally he gives general answers without promises. On some of the segments presented this morning he mentioned playoffs and a run at the hardware. Now I don't profess to know his mind but humans psychologically state what they think. Therefore since generally the target is win 10 and your in, 12 is not so far fetched.

Carr when asked what game he was looking forward to as a barometer for the Giants on upcoming season said Pittsburgh. I think that would be an excellent test for our Defense. more so than Washington who will be tough but they are more one dimensional. I think many on this forum underestimate our secondary, which may vault into the top 10 if not top 5. It is comprised of 3 first round CB, a second and third round S with promising youngsters fighting for roster spots. All who point to the slot CB, I fully expect Janoris to move inside in the nickel but there are many options and I wouldn't sleep on Bennett Jackson as a possibility.

I think the DL will be dominant which will enhance the LB productivity, whose personnel talent level has improved. Coach Spagnoulo declared after mini camp that the days of abysmal defense were over. Eli in the excerpts this morning mentioned how the improved Defense reminded him of the units of the Super Bowl runs. Taken as a whole I think 12-4 is a true possibility, and if Eli gets to the dance watch out. I don't know Deja Vu anybody, big brother wins and little brother follows?
A little mentioned key to the defense playing better will
BlueLou : 6/27/2016 7:37 pm : link
be how DRC responds to the signing of Jenkins and drafting of Apple. Does he feel challenged to demonstrate clearly that he's the true #1 CB? Or does he look at Apple as his replacement and make "business decisions" to preserve his body for his next contract - anticipating to be cut next year?

I would love to know how the additions are affecting DRC's psyche. DRC pushing himself to the limit of his ability could be the best CB in the league IMO.
This will probably be

a weekly prediction type thread......a lot of mental mathematical masterbation.....

Will a prediction change, due to a major injury?

Will it change if another player steps forward with a Cruz type year?

I think this team wins the division, and makes the playoffs...how many wins that takes, I could care less....make the playoffs, and hopefully get hot at the right time....that's how we won the last 2 SB's....

A SB win, is kind of wishful thinking.....just make the playoffs and build on it for the next season....

On paper we have a easier schedule to navigate
David in LA : 6/28/2016 12:08 am : link
and we made considerable upgrades to many facets of our defense. If we ditch the RB by committee, Sterling Shepard has a great rookie season to pair with 13, and the money we spent on defense gives us an injection, I can see legitimate reasons to be very optimistic. I'm pretty fired up about this year.
I hope David is right
RetroJint : 6/28/2016 12:24 am : link
I see the Giants at 9 wins. I don't like the first 5 games. McAdoo is a new HC. Things will go wrong for him from time to time. I could even see them losing 4 of the first five, then going 8-3.

The defense has been significantly upgraded. But Spagnuolo took awhile in get started in 07. And the O-lines that he was facing were not nearly as good as the ones he will see this year. Plus the ball is out faster. It's a different league from 8 years ago.

On offense I wouldn't be surprised if they struggled again early running the ball. The last month of last season was simply horse-out-of-the-barn stats. I think they will eventually get it right but it might take a month.

The passing game will have to carry them early. Eli has a personal nemesis to face in the Vikings, on the road, too.

Slow start. Worm turns . Finish strong. Tie breaker time. 4 games will probably separate the four teams in the division, with 7-9 being the worst team. If Romo goes down, that could be Dallas. If not, probably the Eagles. However they have just as many impact players as the other NFC East teams.

Their schedule only looks weak because we play the NFC East six times. In reality, though, the divisions we play are the NFC North and the AFC North, there are 5 tough games in there (Pittsburgh, Cincy, Baltimore, GB, Minnesota). Our two record based games are against the Saints and the Rams. Not cupcake games, but definitely games we can win. The Cowboys will be improved from the Romo-less version, the Skins are a decent team. I just don't think our schedule is as easy as people thinkl I doubt we will win 12 games, I will sign right now for 10 and the playoffs.
It's not that I'm optimistic
grizz299 : 6/28/2016 11:34 am : link
But would you tell me where the four losses are going to come from.
Opening day in Dallas could be tough...before Romo gets dinged up and our new front four blends.
We get through Dallas with no injuries and this is the Giant team we've been waiting for and that Plax blew up, because this crew could dominate from start to finish.

My biggest concern is Pugh and his concussions. He's not only our starter (with no back-up) he's our depth. I just don't feel good about his bouts with concussions.
