Fucking awesome concert. Alice in chains opened, right before they played their last song one of the band members says "fuck the goddamn philadelphia eagles" to which there was a cheer from the crowd. Pretty funny shit.
I'm seeing them at MetLife. Can't wait. Did they go on stage on time?
I'm going to the met life show also. Yea they went on around 9:15 and played til about 1130-1145. Axl is out of that throne he was in with the broken and on his own 2 feet.
but Layne was that band's identity. The songs just don't sound right without his vocals. Nothing against the new guy, he's a bad ass vocalist, but like I said Layne Staley was their sound.
I just took a look. Setlist looked amazing. Looks like both DC and Detroit were almost identical setlists.
I think the setlist sucks and is completely predictable. How about more from the Illusion albums or even Spaghetti Incident or GnR Lies.
I'm sure it was a good show but I'm glad I saw them three times back in the 80s and 90s. No way, no matter how good it is now, can they touch the rawness of back then.

I somewhat agree, Layne was huge, but you are not giving Cantrell enough credit. And I like the singer and the direction they are going still.

Unfortunately i didn't see them back then (born in 79) and yes the rawness and epicness of their 3 hour shows from '91-'92 obviously won't be matched here in 2016 but their set list now was very comparable to back then. Let's be honest, they're not about to do an unplugged acoustic "one in a million" in front of 40,000+ people but they did a bunch of stuff from UYI. They did civil war, you could be mine, estranged, november rain, double talkin' jive, knocking on heavens door, live and let die, coma, maybe one or two others i can't think of now. All in all it was a great show.
It was weird sitting in fedex, looking around at that fucking stadium and thinking of all the games our giants have played there and some of the shitshows we've been a part of there. The only game i ever saw there was the last game of the 2010 season, giants won like 13-7. Eli hit manningham for a 92 yard TD and i think richie seubert broke his leg that game.
Yeah I like some of their Appetite stuff but they annoyed the shit out of me.
Saw them twice. Once at Nassau Coliseum where Skid Row opened and killed. Then Guns decides to show up more than 2.5 hours late and pissed everyone in arena off. I was shocked they let them play with a curfew.
2nd time at Giants Stadium with Metallica. Co-headline show. Metallica came on 1st. They were awesome. Guns did the same show up late routine. Never again
I love(d) AIC. But Layne was the band although this new guy sounds very similar. Better than Lenny.

I diagree that Layne was the band. I feel if anyone was/is the band, it's Jerry.
Layne had a phenomenal voice.. but besides Angry Chair, he didn't write music/lyrics. Tremendous voice and feel, but there's NO band/music without Jerry!

Staley/Cantrell were AIC. Doesn't work without either - frankly, I get a little offended when bands lose a critical member and carry on with the same name.
No Keith Moon = NOT THE FUCKING WHO.
No Roger Waters = NOT PINK FLOYD.
No Jim Morrison = DEFINITELY NOT THE DOORS.
And don't get me started on the crap Yes pulls.
And Alice in Chains - the main essence of their sound was the juxtaposition between Staley's voice, Cantrell's guitars and the unique vocal harmonies.
When it's over, just call it something else. Your fans aren't stupid.

I get all valid points here... Devil's Advocate:
VH sold more albums with Hagar
AC/DC sold a shitload more albums with Johnson
I love Ozzy-less Sabbath (H&H, Mob Rules, Born Again specifically)
But I do see your point. See SUBLIME..they changed their name to the Long Beach Dub All Stars. Eventually they changed back to Sublime because they needed $$, but they had the right idea.

Hmm yeah I can see that view point. Still I think I agree more with FeelFlows post. I'm OK with Cantrell keeping the AiC name. For the record I loved (still love) his solo stuff as well, Boggy Depot especially. Layne added that (so) distinctive voice and incredible harmonies... but Cantrell did all of the writing (100% of the music and 98% of the lyrics) and a lot of the singing as well. I do take your point though for sure.
I'm going to the met life show also. Yea they went on around 9:15 and played til about 1130-1145. Axl is out of that throne he was in with the broken and on his own 2 feet.
Chains were good, only played about 40-45 minutes but played most of their popular songs.

Not a huge GNR fan... but I LOVE AiC. How were they live?

Agreed. Saw him and Miles Kennedy open for Aerosmith in 2014. He's so freaking great.
