Anyone else see it yet? It just dropped today. A lot better than the theatrical version. Explains so much more. Sucks that this version wasn't the one released in theaters. link - ( New Window )
But after watching the ultimate edition last night, I can honestly say the three hour cut of Batman v Superman is such an improvement that I strongly suggest giving the film another chance. Not only does the North Africa sequence at the beginning of the film now make sense, you get to see Clark Kent be an investigative reporter, understand how Lex was pulling the strings to frame Superman, how Lex was behind the killings when Batman branded someone, and so much more.
Besides the big scenes, which explain a lot, the ultimate edition is loaded with smaller moments tacked on to existing scenes. Have you wondered why Superman wasn’t able to see the bomb during the Senate hearings? That’s explained. After the bomb goes off, you see Superman helping the injured while people clearly don’t want him there. Remember when Clark leaves Metropolis to go into the mountains and talks with his father? That sequence has a new beginning.
Schnepp says he was “blown away” by the Ultimate Edition. “Though it’s longer, it actually makes more sense and feels shorter. Everything about it feels better.”
“I think this movie is so much better,” echoes Weintraub. “It’s not a perfect movie, it clearly has some issues, but it’s so much better in the first two acts. It’s like night and day.” Tzeng was less impressed, but adds that the Ultimate Edition “flows better” with less abrupt cuts.
I spent the first 2 hours -- TWO HOURS!!! -- thinking to myself "Oh my God, this is so bad." Then Wonder Woman showed up, and for a minute it was like "Whoa, this is better." There was energy and attitude and some fun.
Then the focus shifted back to the two mama's boys and it was back to being that bad again. #marthamarthamartha
The new, extended cut offers a conundrum: When a movie is that bad the first time you see it, do you watch a longer version because it's supposed to be better? Do you sort of do double-or-nothing, and hope that you like it the second time? Because either way, that's 3 hours of my life I will never be able to get back.
Will really enjoy this ultimate edition, it explains so much more. The extra 30 minutes of footage really doesn't make the film feel all that much longer. They go more in depth into showing how Lex is pulling strings to get Supes & Bats to fight, so much more on the desert scene - which felt a little pointless in the theatrical version. It was so damn good
Turns out the big issue with the theatrical cut is editing. This happens in every film, but it wasn’t any more prevalent that editing hindered the story of the film until watching the final cut. This version, while longer than the theatrical, just flows a lot better. There are great character building moments for many of the main characters that absolutely should have remained in the film. Fans who purchase the digital or Blu-Ray might be pulling their hair out wondering why specific scenes were removed from the film after seeing this. Lex Luthor is a better character and his diabolical plot makes more sense. The scene in Africa is fully fleshed out. Batman’s motivation is much clearer, and we get to see more kickass Batman scenes. Clark Kent has his own arc where you get to see him do some actual reporter work. Even Superman even smiles! A few of the existing problems in the film remain, but overall this film is 100% better with all the cut scenes in it.
Just watched it. It was my first time seeing it in any form. Â
I liked it. I think the negative review things was a bit overblown.
I think it was piling on a little bit. The movie wasn't nearly as bad as I believed it was, after reading the reviews.
Yeah and I could definitely see where people are coming from as far as the piling on is concerned. Personally I wouldn't have minded to see Doomsday in the next or future film
I saw the Theatrical Cut twice in the theaters, so clearly I liked it Â
I watched the Ultimate Edition last night, and thought it was a big improvement. Everything flowed much better, and they fleshed out Superman/Clark a lot more. I am actually kind of disappointed that this wasn't the version of the film that was originally released.
Snyder definitely has his warts, but I think he made a good movie and the studio kind of screwed him by deciding so late in the process that they no longer wanted a 3 hour run time. They either should have mandated earlier in the process that the limit was 2 and a half hours or they should have just stuck with the 3 hour film he put together.

Yeah, and that was sort of what I figured I would think after watching it. Why cram so much into one movie?
But it didn't feel that crammed when I just watched the ultimate version. It flowed okay.

Lopes they definitely should've released the ultimate cut in theaters, it flowed so nicely that it really didn't seem much longer. Check this video, clearly Snyder wasn't too happy. link - ( New Window )

Snyder really needs someone to reign him in. This isn't the first time that he's had significant amounts of footage cut from his films. The ultimate cut of Watchmen was close to a half hour longer than the theatrical version, and it was a much better film in my opinion. Also, I've never seen it but apparently Sucker Punch had almost 20 minutes cut from it, and supposedly that version is an improvement over the theatrical release too.
In general I like Snyder's films, they look great and he's awesome at filming action scenes, but he really needs help with his scripts. It shouldn't take 3 hours for him to tell his story every time.

Agree completely. Although if there was one film WB should've green lit for 3 hours it should've been BvS
Zack Snyder loves those damn slow motion shots -- if you get rid of those that's probably 20 minutes right there.
If you have an edited version of a movie that makes no sense it just tells me Snyder doesn't know how to tell a coherent story.
And no revised editing changes the fact that the entire plot hinges on a convenient item Batman and Superman have in common, or that Lex Luthor acted like the Riddler, or that the movie was morose, or 8 billion other things that were wrong with the film.

1. Editing did make a big difference as has been cited by multiple people on this thread and various reviews of the ultimate edition of the film.
2. The plot doesn't hinge on a convenient item that they have in common, it hinges on Bruce Wayne realizing that there was more to Superman than just "an alien that could burn the whole place down" Whether you like the way they made him come to that realization or not, there was more to it than that little convenient item.
3. Lex Luthor was portrayed much better in the newly released version. A lot more of the details of his plan and the scheming behind the scenes were shown in some of the deleted portion of the film.
4. The source material that most of the film was based upon was morose as well.
Actually.. I watch all kinds of movies
I mean hey.. this version is rated r lol
It would have to be. That movie was the biggest bomb this year.
It's a shame we aren't all as sophisticated as you. Now go back to you Peaky Blinders, dickhead?
Heard the same thing for Watchmen - loved the theatrical version but I know some people raved about the Ultimate Cut
hhaha from the nicolas cage version right? haha

Oh ok, so you haven't seen the improved version yet feel the need to voice your opinion about it. Gotcha.
