NFT: Mets and Nats Take Three? Mets Chat 6/29

ZGiants98 : 6/29/2016 10:35 am
-Verrett the stopper? Verrett VS Sherzer (lol)

-Matz pushed back a day

-Harvey felt great last night

-Sandy says waiting on Gurriel to spend a month in the minors might not make sense

-Reyes 0-9 in the minors

-Duda 2 weeks from baseball activity (If he starts baseball activities in two weeks that will be WAY sooner than I expected. Good news)

-Rock bottom for Mets right now??

not looking good for this team
Rflairr : 6/29/2016 10:48 am : link
After this sweep. The Cubs come in. Can't see this team hitting any of their pitching
Any one notice the Ian Desmond
Rflairr : 6/29/2016 10:48 am : link
Resurgence? Wow and who knew he could play CF.
.
arcarsenal : 6/29/2016 10:49 am : link
We might be close to 10 out by the break. Not good.
Maybe
spike : 6/29/2016 10:56 am : link
Jose Reyes can be a decent backup CF?
I thought
spike : 6/29/2016 10:57 am : link
Gettibg swept by the Barves was rock bottom.

Hopefully they will be within striking distance of the WC 2 spot by september.
Marlins and Cardinals are looking like better teams right now

Yes you guys have a pesky lineup, something the Mets is lacking. The rebuild shouldnt take long at all

"The Good Doctor" rerun during the rainout was the best part
Victor in CT : 6/29/2016 11:05 am : link
of that game last night.

Yes the rebuild is in it's infancy but Saturday will be worth the suffering when Kevin Maitan signs on the dotted line.
When did

Sandy say it might not make sense to sign Gourriel?
He sat down and spoke to reporters
ZGiants98 : 6/29/2016 2:53 pm : link
Over the last couple days. Gurriel came up. He said he might not make sense because of the length he'd have to play in the minors. I'm on work vacation. Can't give the actual quotes at the moment.

I find it interesting that he mentions he won't be ready soon enough. Rather than mentioning fact they have a 3B already signed long term...
please win tonight

please win tonight!

Lineup
DeAza RF
Walker 2B
Cespedes CF
Loney 1B
Cabrera SS
Johnson 3B
Nimmo LF
Rivera C
Verrett

Collins is switching the batting order a bit, which is a much needed change in this struggling offense

I take this to mean that DW isn't someone they're counting on again anytime soon and that they're looking to upgrade 3B?
Granderson is a scratch
spike : 6/29/2016 6:44 pm : link
from the starting lineup

The players are falling apart..
We kinda need a productive Conforto back asap
a little bit of good news
spike : 6/29/2016 7:01 pm : link
The Mets will miss Jose Fernandez in their upcoming home series with the Marlins next week.

Koehler-Chen-Undecided.
Does it matter?
arcarsenal : 6/29/2016 7:02 pm : link
We'll get blanked by whoever starts in his place anyway.
I'd love to see Nimmo leading up
spike : 6/29/2016 7:06 pm : link
instead of De Aza, who sucks to high heavens
Lagares

Adam Rubin
ESPN Staff Writer

Juan Lagares went 1-for-4 with a strikeout and a run scored for Double-A Binghamton in the first game of his rehab assignment. He logged seven innings in center field. Lagares is trying to demonstrate he can play through a partially torn ligament in his left thumb and can avoid in-season surgery.
Rivera

no match for Scherzer.

Too Easy
spike : 6/29/2016 7:37 pm : link
Verrett just isn't an y good
Of course
Rflairr : 6/29/2016 7:42 pm : link
Murph hits another HR. What is he hitting .450 against the Mets
No surprise there.
arcarsenal : 6/29/2016 7:51 pm : link
Even if you thought the Murph/Walker swap made sense (I was one of these people), you just KNEW that Murphy was going to bat like .500 against us and destroy us. It's so fucking Mets.
Murphy
spike : 6/29/2016 7:51 pm : link
is playing the Mets like a jilted lover.
game is probably over already
spike : 6/29/2016 8:08 pm : link

Said last night, 10 - 12 out by the All-Star break and it's nearly impossible to make an argue against it.
Gotta assume we get shut out again tonight, no?
arcarsenal : 6/29/2016 8:46 pm : link
Can't see any way we're plating any runs.

It would have to be a mistake by Scherzer that ends up in the seats.
Yeah.. the good ol' solo HR..
arcarsenal : 6/29/2016 8:56 pm : link
Even those are getting hard to come by. This is miserable.
Things are starting to look very grim for the mets
EJV79 : 6/29/2016 9:19 pm : link
It's sink or swim at this point. Goddamn this fucking sucks.
another 1 hitter lol
spike : 6/29/2016 9:24 pm : link
We seriously need Nimmo to pan out somewhat right now.

I hope
spike : 6/29/2016 9:27 pm : link
we steal one game against the Cubs and win the home series against the Marlins.

Maybe we will be healthier for the Nats home series before the break. And Jose Reyes will be a spark plug again for us.
Finally
spike : 6/29/2016 9:35 pm : link
We have to hit Ollie Perez. Come on!
A spark named
Giants2012 : 6/29/2016 9:36 pm : link
Reyes will turn on the offense. . . . I hope.
at this rate
spike : 6/29/2016 9:37 pm : link
we will be out of the WC race by August
if Grandy can't run
spike : 6/29/2016 9:39 pm : link
they should definitely get Gilmartin or Degrom to pinch run for him.
Cant we pinch hit Flores
spike : 6/29/2016 9:42 pm : link
for De Aza and put Johnson in LF?

De Aza blows

Murph
I think I need a break from watching this team for a while.
arcarsenal : 6/29/2016 9:55 pm : link
It's not worth the frustration.
De Aza must go
spike : 6/29/2016 9:56 pm : link
our pitchers hit better than him.
it's true
pjcas18 : 6/29/2016 9:58 pm : link
de Aza has a lower OPS than Thor and Matz.

he has a lower BA than 2015 John Mayberry and 2016 Eric Campbell.

He might be the worst position player in mlb. I am a Sandy fan, but holy shit, if de Aza was "the plan" or even a major part of it as a platoon with Lagares if they didn't sign Cespedes the Mets would be sellers already for 2017.
The Mets have to back the brink truck for Cespedes
spike : 6/29/2016 9:59 pm : link
Cut De Aza NOW and we will win more games.

What is his WAR now? -10?
I'm not going to look up his
pjcas18 : 6/29/2016 10:04 pm : link
war, too lazy, but I'll paste a tweet (I'm pretty sure his defense isn't helping his WAR):

Quote:

Alejandro De Aza's OPS, .440, is the second lowest of any player with 100+ PAs this year. The only one lower, Daniel Castro, got sent down.
lol
spike : 6/29/2016 10:04 pm : link
unbelievable.
They're a very bad baseball
Stufftherun : 6/29/2016 10:05 pm : link
team going nowhere fast. I just can't see them in the post season regardless of what strings they pull. It really is a season where we can say Murphy's Law rules!
