Told trade is straight up Hall for Larsson.
That's atrocious
scott lewis @thescottlewis
When you trade Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson straight up, you better have a follow-up press release revealing Hall ran a meth lab on the side
Turns out they could have had a 65 point, 24 year old left wing straight up for him.
And I'm certainly not making much of his "attitude issues". Losing cultures like what Edmonton's had for a decade create ... attitudes... and he's still only 24. Great get for NJ.
even if he's a piece of shit, they have a coach who has dealt with kids for the whole of his coaching career. Larsson is a budding star on the blue line, they're giving up a lot, but Hall is something they haven't had in New Jersey in years.
and it will still be a bad trade. It's not about the quality of the players. Both are fine talents (though I still think they lost there). It's the fact that the Oilers clearly could have done much better.
Im fairly confident they acted with knowledge of the market.
Dune: you're not necessarily wrong. I think Hall could be well served getting out of the Oilers locker room, which I just heard bad things about forever. Could be like Seguin all over again. Or more like Philly trading those shitbags.
I dont mind this at all for the Oilers especially if they use the money saved to bring in some skilled leadership. Once they got McDavid I think they committed to making him the team, rather than that group of recent high picks generally. Eberle is probably next.
What a huge get for the Devils. They finally add a much needed proven young scorer. I hate to give up Larsson as most on this thread underestimate him as he was just coming into his own but for Hall straight up the Devils definitely won this deal.
Deej has a point - the Oilers have been rumored to be shopping Hall for quite a while now. If there were so many better deals out there, wouldn't they have taken one already? For whatever reason, they didn't seem to like him very much. Of course, you can chalk that up to the Oilers being a mess, but it IS possible that Hall's an attitude problem.
On the surface it does look like a win for the Devils, but time will tell, and even now it's not quite the crazy lopsided deal some of you seem to think.
with the addition of Hall and the return of health of Cammalleri along and the possible arrival of Pavel Zacha. Their offense has been abysmal for the last few years but now they should have a decent offense.
With Larsson gone, the Devs' blueline is virtually nonexistent. Is the defensive strategy just gonna be to throw down some thumbtacks and nails in their own end and hope that slows down opposing offenses?

The Devils aren't in terrible shape along the blue line. They have some interesting young prospects in Santini and Jacobs who will be ready soon. Severson and Merrill have shown some flashes of being very good players. Their third pairing will need some work but if they add a decent veteran then they could get by with Andy Greene, Severson, Merril, Moore, and Santini.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Schlemko back as well.

Wouldn't Schlemko be that vet 3rd pair guy? Regardless, sounds like Devs fans will be hoping that D will eventually gel. Seems like that's a lot of hope and still some time away.

You're right I think they are putting a lot of faith in the Severson and Merrill taking the next step. Schlemko will likely be back but I would like to see a decent veteran added unless someone like Mozik, Helgeson, or Scarlett surprises.

Schlemko sounds like a made up name for a JAG. Possibly yiddish.
"We need a top pair dman. You can have just any Schlemko matchup against Ovie and Crosby".
but I'd take Hamonic over Larssen any day of the week.
They're two different types. Hamonic is much more emotional and physical and has a solid quick hitting impact on the push up ice. Larsson is more sound positionally, has better vision and passing. Plays a cerebral game. Has probably one of the best outlet passes and stretch passing game in the league even now.
Oilers just preferred Larsson and what he brings to what they want. I think Larsson has more ceiling to reach. Hamonic may have peaked but he's proven more to date without question.
holy mother of god what a fucking great trade for the Devs
I am really psyched. Listen I like Larsson and all but this is a no brainer. Fore those saying we have no D now that couldn't be further from the truth. Organizationally the Devs are loaded with depth on D. Not top flight PP QB's but guys that can more than hold down the fort like Merrill , Severson, Andy Greene, John Moore and they have depth with Santini and $ to spend in free agency. None of the are #1 type guys, but although I was really happy with how Larsson progressed the last year or two, he probably was never going to be that either. This is the exact type of deal I was hoping for them to make for the past year.
RE: Latest rumor is Islanders did indeed offer Hamonic
There were reports today that NYI did offer Hamonic, but Edmonton preferred Larsson's very team friendly contract (still has 5 years remaining at $5 mil per year).
Obviously who knows - no one will ever tell us what really went down. I do think NYI can find that wing for Tavares in other ways this summer anyway.
What I really, really don't understand is why the Habs and Oilers didnt just trade with each other.... wouldnt you rather have Hall the next few years than Shea Weber, and while Hamonic could be debated, wouldnt you prefer PK Subban anchoring your D to Adam Larrson, even if for more money???
Very exciting trade for the Devils. Interested to see how they fill out the roster but a Hall/Henrique/Palmieri first line is great with Zajac/Cam on the second line. Interested to see what happens with Elias and DSP. Have Zacha and Josefson up the middle on the 3 and 4.
Need to add a defender or two but this could be a playoff team if healthy and have capspace next offseason also.
and this trade sucks almighty balls. The entire fanbase is losing it since this move was announced. If they don't have Lucic signed there won't be enough of the GM to identify by the weekend.
Hall is not a shithead and rumours of him being anything but the hardest working player on the team are BS.
Seems to be that this move had everything to do with:
1 - save 2mm which they will need for either Lucic and in preparation for McDavid in a few years.
2 - low trade value for RNH and Eberle
3 - unexpected coup with Puljujarvi
4 - Chiarelli wanted to be known for being on the ass-end of trading both Hall and Seguin
5 - need need need for right-shooting D
6- more moves to come.
What kills me with this move is virtually no one is saying the Oilers got value for the third best player 5-v-5 in the NHL. Hall is a superstar who's primary issue is harnessing his talent on a consistent basis and staying healthy. Keep those puck-bunnies away and he may score 40 next season.
@GenePrincipe
From what I understand this is a one for one deal @hallsy04 for Adam Larsson..
I didn't think anything less than Schneider would have to go back in return.
At least Islanders didn't get him I guess.

Larsson really developed. He might be a bottom of the top 10 RHD right now. He is not the kid who couldnt stay in the lineup 2 or 3 years ago.
Talent-wise, I think devils win, overall trade will remain to be seen

Maybe they know they can't pay Hall in 2 years when he's a free agent and would rather control Larsson for the next 5 years in return?

Hall is a piece of shit. That's what this is about. Evander Kane esque.
Also I'd be stunned if Devils didn't discuss getting an extension done with Hall in next year.

He is signed through 2020 so there isn't an immediate rush.
I mean, I know you're just needling but wahhhhhhhhhhhh
devils fans talked smack! wahhhhhhhhhh
ha, I'm pretty sure he's loooonnnnngggggggg gone

And boy do us Devs fans know all about that
I mean
Suck it

As for Hall, #Isles didn't offer what EDM wanted, which was Hamonic. Plain and simple.

Bingo.
Though I don't get why you move Hall instead of RNH/Eberele.
