especially defensively, which is where the Canadiens have to build. Hope for a healthy Price and solid D.
I loved Subban, but as I've said all along he's a flawed player. sick one-timer, lethal on the PP and solid all around guy - locker room, community, on the ice, but if the Canadiens are trying to win "today' this isn't as awful as most of you make it seem.
I wouldn't have done it, because Weber's contract runs for 10 more years.
that's Weber contract is huge. That's a, gee, wow deal.
Keep in mind it was frontloaded and he makes $1 million per for the last three years. Not sure how the cap hit works if he retires. I think they changed the rules on that.
Yes, Weber has mileage and a large contract, but on the ice they swapped a top 10 defenseman for another top 10 defenseman. Sure, one was higher on the list, but Weber is fucking good.
He's got leadership, a fucking bomb and he's an animal..
His biggest knock is getting exposed playing 27 minutes a night against the likes of Toews and Kane in a playoff series.
I'd rather have Subban, but I can't say the Habs got worse.
are an emotional group (understatement?) they're calling this one of the worst trades in Canadiens history and this is the franchise who traded Patrick Roy, Chris Chelios, Rogie Vachon, John LeClair (and two years later traded Recchi who was the primary player they got for LeClair), Damphousse, Stephane Richer, Pierre Turgeon, not to mention their #1 prospect and one of the best prospects in hockey (McDonagh) for the corpse of Scott Gomez with his contract in tact.

The link indicates more as he was paid more early yet the dollars didn't count towards the cap. Check out the link. $7,857,143 through 2025 when he's 39 years old. Link - ( New Window )
I mean, fuck the Habs

But let's not pretend they got some fuckin sled.

No one is saying Weber is chopped liver. But c'mon. Over the next four years, on his current trajectory, Subban is a legitimate Norris trophy finalist and I'll be shocked if Weber is ever in the conversation again.
When those four years are up, Subban will be Weber's age and I'll wager Weber is trying to hang on as a top four d-man at 35.
Two years later Subban is 33 and you can trade him or let him walk in free agency while you are still eating Weber for the next four at 37.
Therrien is a coach with no imagination who tried pounding Subban's square peg into his system and can't handle insubordination. He won this battle, but he'll lose the war.
Montreal loses a local folk hero and a chance to play a rare exciting brand of hockey that any fan base would love to support for the foreseeable future and one that could have them in contention every year. Now they are going to park the bus and count on Price.
Sure Weber's a top-15 blueliner. But in five years nobody will even attempt to argue Montreal won this swap.
Don't the Preds get slammed with recapture hits if Weber retires early, though? (He's signed through like age 38 or 39 IIRC so there's a solid chance he will)
Just a weird trade though if you're MTL. If you're going to move Subban that's fine but why not try to get younger talent and picks instead? I don't really know what adding Weber accomplishes for them. It doesn't make them better now OR long-term.
Dont like it for Les PJs.
Why were they desperate to move PK? Doesn't make sense

Doesnt make sense either, but his NTC or NMC kicked in 7/1/2016.
Maybe the Rangers can deal Girardi. For Seabrooke..

I liken this to the Bruins adding Chara.
But why doesn't it surprise me? Bergevin had been doing great but showed signs of coming unhinged with his pointless draft day trades.

Weber retiring can only impact Nashville according to Bergevin with a cap recapture penalty.
This is the beginning of the end for both Bergevin and Therrien.

but not just Therrien, Babcock didn't want him on team Canada.
Subban is a top 5 defenseman in the NHL but his style is not what I'd call coachable.
still don't get the trade, but at this point nothing I can do except hope someone fails a physical. LOL.

Hats off to Nashville though.

Don't get it.
Bergevin is now under intense pressure to bring in a top 6 forward.
